Sports Business Networking? Join Women In Sports And Events
2008-09-23 01:05:00 If you're in the sports industry or in a sport management program, this video explains my experience in finding the right program to be a part of. After some good experiences and some terrible ones, I joined Women In Sports And Events (WISE). Regardless of gender, it's an excellent grassroots style program and they treat their members as welcomed guests. IF you're in a college, then you're already in a networking group, but you still can't go wrong with WISE. But there's one organization I recommend you not join and it's the National Sports Marketing Network. The National Sports Marketing Network does not have -- in my experience -- a good customer service track record. My story is personal in that I recently was sent an email to come to a member's only event, but then when i RSVPed -- after some hestiation because of the NSMN's terrible reputation in the SF Bay Area and after a friend encouraged me to do so -- I got the weird rebuff email. When I enquired and expressed...

Monolab|Workspace San Francisco
2008-08-06 04:09:00 While our Palo Alto space is filling up nicely, we're starting to get more and more requests for a similar space in San Francisco. We gave our requirements to our real estate agent (Cornish & Carey), and they located some pretty cool properties. One of them in particular drew our attention, and I am happy to report that we might have found the perfect spot for the Monolab|Workspace San Francisco. [Continue...]

Maria Ayerdi Has Pelli Clarke Pelli Design For SF Transit Center
2008-07-30 10:39:00 I have to admit I liked the Skidmore Owings and Merrill design, even if their architectural renderings imply they forgot Black folks existed. But the Pelli design focused on a "green" theme and addressed several pressing flow issues that the others did not. Now, Transbay Terminal Joint Powers Authority Executive Director Maria Ayerdi has Pelli Clarke Pelli to work with. What will we get in San Francisco? This video series holds a clue:1: 2: 3:4. Overall the design is breath-taking. Let's see how much of this design remains as the process of building the structure in a weak economy commences.

John McCain's San Francisco Visit To Be Met With Protests Today
2008-07-28 17:34:00 Senator John McCain has a big-ticket fundraiser of 100,000 per person and held at the Fairmount Hotel to add to the public money he's already using to run for President. I figured an anti-war protest must have been planned and I was right: there's one according to KTYU.com:SAN FRANCISCO -- Grassroots campaigners are planning to protest the continuation of the Iraq war Monday outside a fundraising event at a San Francisco hotel for Republican presidential nominee Arizona Sen. John McCain.Members of No Soldier Left Behind will rally outside the campaign fundraiser and collect petition signatures calling for a responsible end to the war, according to Peace Action West, an organization that fosters civic activism. Protestors will hold signs advocating the end of the war and well being of Iraqis and Americans in the region."Sen. McCain is here raising money in support of an Iraq policy that will be a continuation of the president's fail strategy," Peace Action West's Executive Direc...
Zennie Abraham The Partying Playboy According To TangoDiva
2008-07-28 00:06:00 Zennie Abraham The Partying Playboy According To TangoDivaWow. Ok, according to TangoDiva I'm now a "Partying Playboy" but I'm not sure if I'm right up there with Hugh Hefner or not! Here's what TangoDiva wrote (oh. Ok. I answered the questions and they put them out there!):The Man Issue 08: Zenophon AbrahamBy Tango DivaName: Zenophon Abraham Hometown: San Francisco, California Occupation: CEO of Sports Business Stimulations1. Where do you like to flirt? Pretty much anywhere. Bar, rapid transit, football stadium, dark part of a dive place.2. Where's your favorite table for two? - I like the 21 Club in New York, The Alley in Oakland, and The Balboa Cafe in San Francisco -- three different places but all have history and two are darkly romantic (the Balboa's too well-lit).3. Where should we stay when we visit (besides your place)? Hmm. I like the Claremont Resort in the Oakland Hills. Great views, pool, tennis, and food, too!4. What qualities do you find irresistible in a wo...
Chinese Government Already Arresting Dissidents Before Olympics
2008-07-27 18:36:00 http://zennie2005.blogspot.com- - If you remember the video I made where I talked about how the Chinese Government could use IP address data from the Viacom / Google lawsuit to find dissidents and arrest or kill them -- See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1ua_XT1RJIEThen brace yourself because the Chinese have already arrested two Internet dissidents Du Daobin and Ye Guozhu and have done so before the Bejing Olympics. Both dissidents were arrested for "subversion" or writing against the actions of the Chinese Government. Such actions bring into focus the value of the "annoymous blogger" because the idea is that by being just that, one can explain and report in a dissident fashion without the kind of retribution these two gentleman are facing. But the actions of some using the term annoymous have threatened the very ability to use that term. As a momentary aside, people using that term must take care not to abuse its use for mean-sprited purposes. China is clearly concerned abou...

BlogHer 2008 - The San Francisco Edition
2008-07-21 21:47:00 I have opened and closed Movable Type several times, not being able to quite organize my thoughts about the weekend at BlogHer. Additionally, I thought about not even writing this because you can find any number of BlogHer 2008 recaps most anywhere, and I know from experience that it gets old to read about it when you weren't there. I thought long and hard, and then I thought some more. Then I remembered some words of wisdom I once heard: "Eh, screw it. I'm doing it anyway." Of course, those words were what landed that particular philosopher in the Trauma Unit at work, but that's neither here nor there. Last Thursday, Lindsay and I took our in-marginal-health selves to the airport, because nothing says, "Hey, new friends!" like hurling and wheezing all over them. We chatted the four hours to San Diego away keeping one eye warily out the window (it was her eye, because like I'm really going to put one of my eyes out the window at 10,000 feet?) for Arizona because the p...

Another Point of View on That Whole "Rogue San Francisco Admin" Story
2008-07-20 01:50:00 So, let me get this straight. There's this system admin who allegedly "hijacked" San Francisco's city-wide computer network. To the point where he got fired, arrested, and is now on trial. Half the stories out there have this guy tried and convicted. Because, you know, people who work in computers are so freaking scary. Every charge against him that I've heard so far is "maybe" this and "we suspect" that. So far, the only hard evidence that he did anything is: he changed passwords on routers. No kidding? If I'm responsible for a whole major city's computer security, I'm going to change passwords, too! Maybe he should give his boss the new passwords, and maybe he shouldn't. Remember, we're always hearing about how stolen laptops compromise whose IT infrastructures - the government is no exception. All I'd like to see is a chance for Terry Childs to speak for himself, to see if we have an explanation for this. Until I do, I'm inclined to think they arrested the wrong party...

Sf Chronicle Losing $1 Million A Week - Newspapers In Trouble
2008-06-23 08:28:00 According to today's NY Times, the newspaper industry is in trouble, as papers suffer from competition from the Internet. The SF Chron has been losing $1 million a week since last year. As Time O'Reily wrote last year, he reads the online version of the SF Chron 95 percent of the time, and the "offline" version about 5 percent of the time. That's probably true for me, as well, but Tim and I are both in the Internet business. What can be done? Well, my answer is "nothing" -- the offline news people have to adjust to this New Media world, as do institutions and PR people who have been oriented toward using offline newspapers to get the news out. This also includes sports leagues like the NFL, which has a long standing relationship with such organizations as The Associated Press, but not the Huffington Post, which draws 14 million visitors a month. The SF Chron seems to be trying to find its way on The Internet, where it gets about 5 million visitors per month. That's still f...

San Francisco City Hall, San Francisco
2008-06-10 09:40:00 The City Hall of San Francisco, California, opened in 1915, in its open space area in the city’s Civic Center, is a Beaux-Arts monument to the brief “City Beautiful” movement that epitomized the high-minded American Renaissance of the period 1880-1917. The present building is actually a replacement for an earlier City Hall that was completely destroyed during the 1906 Earthquake. The architect was Arthur Brown Jr, whose attention to the finishing details extended to the doorknobs and the typeface to be used in signage. Brown also designed San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House, Veterans Building, Temple Emanuel, Coit Tower and the Federal office building at 50 United Nations Plaza. Interesting historical tourist spot. GPS tourist coordinates: 37° 46′ 45.08″ N, 122° 25′ 8.9″ W

Winning is becoming contagious in San Francisco
2008-06-06 20:00:00 POINTSHAVERS.COM 06/07/08 - The San Francisco Giants have been quietly improving their play over the last several weeks. It all started when Barry Zito got his first win after stumbling out to an 0-8 start. Then, Giants hitting started to come around and road wins became easier to come by.But the key to the Giants success so far this season has been the outstanding pitching of Scott Linecum (8-1 W-L, 2.15 ERA). The Giants have rallied around their young star all year long; and, just yesterday Linecum and the Giants destoyed the Nationals 10-1.Today, LHP Jonathan Sanchez (4.08 ERA, 4-3 W-L) gets a crack at the cold Nationals and RHP Shawn Hill (0-2 W-L 4.67 ERA). It's surprising that the Giants are coming into this game as underdogs. I don't know if anyone is falling for the Nationals as a home favorite this time.Take San Francisco Gians (+110) vs Washington Nationals
