Making the switch from plastic bags
2008-07-01 17:33:00 Over the weekend I bought a canvas bag at the local food co-op. It’s for grocery-shopping so I can stop carrying home those awful plastic bags. I bought it on impulse when I noticed it was only $.99. I recycle grocery bags but still knew it was irresponsible of me to use them at all. ...

A proper San Fransisco sushi quest
2007-08-25 23:27:00 I set a goal of trying out all the sushi bars we had in my city. We are talking Oslo here, a small city of half a million people. It means you have to go to about 30-40 places, and I thought that was quite a lot. Then I read about this guy. He calls ...

Eiji - Castro, San Fransisco
2007-06-28 03:24:00 I was going after Sushi Zone, one of the famous sushi places in San Fransisco, but they were unfortunately not open for lunch. From some fellow sushi fans at the next door bookshop I got a tip about this little, hidden sushi bar on the corner between Sanchez and 16th Street called Eiji.
Takara - Japantown, San Fransisco
2007-06-27 20:26:00 Takara seemed to be a family run restaurant, with a lot of Japanese customers, which was a promising sign. I liked the place, very down to earth and everyday kind of sushi bar, but I did feel like they had lost some of what’s special about Japanese food culture. I guess it is me ...

No Blue Angels in San Fransisco
2007-06-08 18:17:00 The annual aerial show by the U.S. Navy?s Blue Angels ? a San Francisco tradition dating back to 1981 that pumps millions into the local economy ? is running into opposition from three local peace advocacy groups that are calling for a permanent halt to the popular Fleet Week flyover. CodePink, Global Exchange and Veterans for Peace, Chapter 69, are working with Supervisor Chris Daly on a Board of Supervisors resolution to address concerns over the Blue Angels. Daly acknowledged he is considering a call to halt the flyovers because, he said, ?they seem dangerous and unnecessary.? Daly said he plans on introducing the resolution as early as Tuesday, but is still drafting the language. A resolution is not legally binding, but states a board position.

San Fransisco median home prices up? sales down? what gives??
2007-04-20 14:56:00 So, the median home prices in San Fransisco are up lately… but the sales are down? Doesn’t this kind of buck the age old economic principle of supply and demand? When there’s less demand aren’t prices supposed to go down as well? That’s what I learned in Economics 101 way back in ...
Meraki to start its own San Fransisco WiFi network
2007-03-06 18:07:11 It starts with the Fon wireless network which gave away its wireless routers last year. But it doesn’t stop there. The always delayed citywide WiFi network in San Fransisco opens a window of opportunities for smaller players to spread their tentacles in the area. Meraki, a wireless equipment manufacturer, also plans to “deploy” its network. Over the next several weeks and months, the company will be working on a community mesh network from Mission Dolores Park through the Castro and Duboce Park Neighborhoods and up to Alamo Square Park in the SF urban area. About 15,000 residents could access the Internet for free, Meraki said in a press release. The company also claims to have 15,000 Meraki users who rely on their tiny router in more than 25 countries, mostly in the US. Does Google need to update its plans in San Fransisco? We guess not. The common point between Fon and Meraki is that Google has invested in both start-ups.
