I was waiting for this moment. When I was dropped from the side, I knew only way to earn my place back is to score some runs,” the veteran cricketer said from Mumbai.Following a disastrous performance at the CB tri-nation series involving, hosts Australia, India and Sri Lanka, the 39-year-old country’s highest capped player was dropped for the West Indies tour.“I couldn’t make runs in the domestic circuit even though my bowling and fielding has been pretty impressive. Sanath Jayasuriya to play his 400th ODI match
2007-10-03 18:29:00 The Sri-Lankan star batsman, Sanath Jayasuriya is going to be the first player in cricket to play 400 ODI matches. Jaysuriya will achieve this milestone against England where he will be playing his 400th match. Jayasuriya has scored over 12,000 runs in ODI and over 300 ODI wickets which is itself a record. He has made a lot of records in his career. This new milestone will add one more to the 38 years old Jayasuriya's record.India's Sachin Tendulkar is just below Jayasuriya in playing most no. of ODI matches. Sachin has played 397 ODI matches just 2 less than that of Sanath. Inzamam-ul-Haq of Pakistan, Wasim Akram of Pakistan, Mohammad Azahaurddin of India and Rahul Dravid of India follows them. The most surprising fact is that they all are from sub-continent.Sanath Jayasuriya for me is one of the greatest players of all times. He is a real under-respected hero in cricket. Though 38 years old Jayasuriya is playing brilliantly and is fit and fine. I hope he makes more records..
Lay to rest the ghosts of Africa - Sanath Jayasuriya
2007-09-26 22:18:00 Lay to rest the ghosts of AfricaWith happy experiences of the 2007 World Cup fresh in our minds-even if we lost at the final hurdle, few would have faulted us if we had great expectations about the Twenty-20 World Cup in South Africa. After all, innovative batting has always been Sri Lanka’s strength in the shorter versions of the game and if we had a weakness, it would have been in the bowling and the Twenty-20 format appeared to have been tailor made for the style of game that we play. But as events last week went horribly wrong, it was not to be and we found ourselves making an early exit from the tournament and on a flight to Colombo.I believe things began to go wrong in the game against Pakistan. It was a key match and Pakistan were minus quite a few of their established stars for a variety of reasons. In terms of experience we clearly had the advantage but it was up to us to convert it to a win that day-- a win, with a game to play against Bangladesh that would have meant alm...
