2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid SUV | The Two Mode Green Line
2008-03-24 02:18:00 It is possible this could end up being the most popular hybrid SUV yet. Saturn is preparing to begin production of a totally redesigned Vue Green Line, and this time they are using GM’s two-mode hybrid system. Unlike the mild hybrid Vue that has been around for the past couple of years, the all new ...

Bob Lutz: Saturn Vue plug-in, Chevrolet Volt to be more expensive than orig
2008-03-21 22:17:00 Bob Lutz: Saturn Vue plug-in, Chevrolet Volt to be more expensive than originally thought During the 2008 New York Auto Show, General Motors vice chairman Bob Lutz addressed some of issue staring down the Detroit-based automaker's plug-in hybrid plans. While GM's plug-in hybrid vehicles might still be on track for a 2010 or 2011 launch, their prices will likely be much higher than originally anticipated. General Motor's first true plug-in hybrid vehicle will be a version of its two-mode Saturn Vue hybrid, scheduled to launch sometime around the turn of the next decade. The Vue plug-in will use next-generation lithium-ion batteries which should allow the Vue to travel 40 miles on electric power and have an EPA rating of 60 mpg. But that technology will come at a staggering price not normally associated with the Saturn brand. According to Lutz, "the two-mode hybrid system will add about $8,000 to $9,000 to the price of the Vue, with the plug-in technology addi...
Q & A with Bob Reuter Chief Engineer, Plug-in Saturn VUE
2008-02-05 06:01:00 GM has announced its intention to produce a plug-in Saturn VUE with a large lithium ion battery married to a 2-mode hybrid drivetrain. This car quite possibly could be the first-ever plug-in hybrid that gets brought to the U.S. market. I had the chance to ask the vehicle’s chief engineer a few questions. When will the ...

Detroit 2008: Video of the PHEV Saturn Vue?s brief on-stage appearance
2008-01-17 21:37:00 Usually, the auto show game plan works like this: an automaker reveals the latest car with a flourish, everyone crowds around the stage and snaps photos and then the scrum dies down and forms at the next booth. Later, some low-level techs move whatever vehicle was just photographed like Britney Spears with her pants down onto the show floor, where it sits and waits for someone to pay it attention during the rest of the week. Unfortunately, this isn't always the way it works. When GM unveiled the plug-in hybrid VUE concept at the Detroit Auto Show (along with the new two-mode VUE hybrid), the PHEV appeared on stage, then retreated through the little door and was never seen again. When I asked someone from GM where the SUV was, he told me that it was probably back in Milford already. All this is to say that the short clip of the Vue plug-in that you can see in the video above - which shows how Saturn unveiled the new VUEs) is all you're gonna get. For now, anyway. Someday, I'm sure...

Detroit Auto Show 2008: Saturn Vue Two-Mode, with and without a plug
2008-01-15 14:28:00 Saturn publicly showed two versions of the new Two-Mode hybrid Vue cross-over today using different battery technologies. One is the standard model that will go on sale toward the end of the this year with a nickel metal hydride battery pack. The second uses a lithium ion pack and has the ability to be plugged in for 4-5 hours giving it a ten mile electric range. Let me here correct an error I made in my original post on the regular two-mode Vue. Contrary to what I had heard earlier, the fuel economy improvement is actually 50 percent in combined driving rather in the city cycle. According to GM Powertrain VP Tom Stephens, GM is actually hoping to get even more improvement before production launch later this year. The company also wants to get the PHEV Vue to market by late next year, making it the first commercially available plug-in hybrid. [Source: General Motors]

Prototypes of the new PHEV Vue are now running with lithium ion batteries and apparently getting more than 10 miles on a full charge. A full charge of the pack takes about 4-5 hours on a normal 110V household circuit. The PHEV Vue is based on the Two-Mode hybrid Vue also launching today. If GM makes their target of having the plug-in Vue on sale for 2010, it will likely be the first commercially available plug-in hybrid in the world. The GM press release is after the jump and we should have live pics of the Vue later today.Gallery: Detroit 2008: Saturn Vue Green Line PHEV[Source: General Motors] SATURN VUE GREEN LINE PLUG-IN HYBRID SUV MAY BEGIN PRODUCTION IN 2010 Expected to be First Commercially Availabl...

2009 Saturn Vue Green Line 2 Mode Preview
2008-01-08 19:55:00 The four-cylinder Vue and Aura Green Lines have been on sale for months, offering drivers a practical, low-cost green option. An even greener choice (in terms of MSRP) will be the Vue Green Line 2 Mode. It arrives in dealerships later this year, and showcases GM's first front-wheel-drive application of their two-mode hybrid technology that was co-developed with BMW and the old DaimlerChrysler. The 2009 Green Line 2 Mode is built on an excellent foundation. You likely know the Vue is an unrepentant clone of the Antara sold in Europe through GM's Opel division. Our miles spent in the Vue/Antara have been singularly pleasing, and based on our experience in GM's full-size SUVs with the two-mode technology, we have high expectation for the more sophisticated Vue 2 Mode. While we can't comment on how the new Vue hybrid drives, we can tell you what GM told us leading up to the little ute's Detroit auto show introduction. The powertrain combines GM's corporate 3.6-liter direct-injected ...

While the regular Vue Green Line is a so-called mild hybrid setup with a four-cylinder gasoline motor, the new Green Line 2 Mode delivers V6 power with even more advanced hybrid technology. The Vue Green Line 2 Mode delivers an estimated 50-percent fuel economy increase over the non-hybrid V6 Vue, GM claims. The crossover also is expected to have a driving range of more than 500 miles. GM says overall performance is not compromised — the sprint to 60 mph takes just 7.3 seconds and maximum towing load is 3,500 lbs. The 3.6 liter V6 features variable valve timing and direct injection for increased power and efficiency. The Vue Green Line 2 Mode is GM?s first application of two-mode technology on a front-wheel-drive vehicle. While the old Vue was nothing to write home about, the mild hybrid system it carried did provide a new and relatively inexpensive (if less effective) option to those looking for a bit more mileage out of a crossover. The original Vue Green Line had a relatively short life as it debuted during the last model year of the old CUVs life-cycle.The first of three hybrid versions of the second Vue is now ready for public consumption and it again features the mild hybrid belt-alternator-starter system. The control software of the system has been updated for 2008 for improved mileage. While the old Vue got 23/29 mpg (according to the revised 2008 procedures) the new one is rated at 25/32 mpg city/highway. T...

2008 Saturn Vue Red Line
2007-02-05 08:42:01 Saturn?s small sporty utility ditches the Honda engine for something from the corporate candy bin. It was a dirty little secret that Saturn tried to hide, but the press just couldn?t let it go. The last generation Saturn Vue Red Line?s 250 hp came courtesy of a Honda V-6. Nothing quite like using your competitor as a supplier, eh? For 2008, Saturn is rectifying that predicament by using the same DOHC 3.6-liter V-6 as is found in the Chevrolet Equinox Sport and Pontiac Torrent GXP as well as optional in lesser Vues. The Vue Red Line still makes 250 hp, but now it?s 250 hp with a clean conscience, and that should be good for a few tenths to sixty. The V-6 routes its power through a six-speed automatic with a manumatic function to either the front or all four wheels. Of course, this largest canvas for the Red Line styling team must be exploited. The Vue?s tall doors and rising beltli...
2007 Saturn Vue Green Line Review: Lame Duck Greenie
2007-02-05 08:42:01 By: Rex RoyThe Auto Channel Remember when Saturn offered buyers a different kind car because it was a different kind of car company? While a brilliant advertising campaign, it used to be true. Saturns had their own chassis, polymer body panels, engines, manufacturing plants, dealerships ? the works. If you haven't been paying attention (and millions haven't) Saturn is now just another division of General Motors. This may not be a bad thing. The old L-Series were forgettable, Ions were lamentable, and their Relay minivans don't even warrant a pejorative adjective. Saturn's soon-to-be current line up looks much better. The Aura sedan is terrific. The Sky is an o-so-fine roadster. And the new Outlook crossover is available just as people are awakening to the stupidity of using big SUVs for minivan tasks. The recently announced 2008 Astra completes the picture, adding a dash of European flair to the division that GM neglected like an ugly stepchild for so many years. An OverVueB...

Well if you would like to cut down on your fuel costs you will be pleased to know that your fuel economy is improved by about 20% in this hybrid version with figures around 27MPG in the city and about 32MPG on the highway and all this extra fuel saving is thanks to how the hybrid system shuts of the engine when the SUV comes to a stop and then restarting its engine once you take your foot of the brake and pull away The engine used in the Saturn Vue Green Line Hybrid is a 2.4L VVT four-cylinder which has a four speed auto transmission with a 170BHP Get more informa...
