Kubica Takes BMW-Sauber to Pole in Bahrain
2008-04-05 16:07:00 Another great qualifying and this time it’s BMW-Sauber’s Robert Kubica grabbing pole on his last flying lap inching ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari. As has been the norm lately, BMW-Sauber kept a low profile right up until qualifying and then showed what they really had. For most of the weekend, Felipe Massa was the story as he topped the time charts just about everywhere he could including in qualifying right up to the end only to lose pole to Robert Kubica. So far Kimi Raikkonen is flying under the wire and finishes in 4th outside second row and watching Massa take all the Ferrari glory. Lewis Hamilton showed no ill effects from yesterdays shunt and managed 3rd best time just over a tenth off Massa. With Robert Kubica qualifying in second place for today’s Australian Grand Prix, and Nick Heidfeld rising from fifth position into second place to finish the race, while Robert was doing well until an unexpected accident forced him to retire. After some intense racing, a lot of crashes and some great competition Nick and Robert both proved that they with BMW can be winners. Kubica had some good pit stops, but that couldn’t help Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima bumping into him and taking him out of the race after 49 laps. Nakajima was handed a 10 place grid penalty for the following race in Malaysia. Nick Heidfeld was in charge of the test today. Willie Rampf also expects 2 tenths of a second gain per lap using the Ferrari-style wheel covers. BMW have of course been criticized for the use of these covers as they are suspiciously similar to the covers Ferrari debued in 2006. It should be noted that Toyota and Renault have also used variations of the covers. In canada where I am, noon local time is 6am my time and I was up watching the live streaming video of the launch. Yes, BMW Sauber is my team and I was looking forward to this and the future of this team. bbxxy42-1822a470d2-55 I have captured most of this video and split it into 7 smaller files featuring different aspects of the presentation. They can be seen below. The team is now at a full staff of 730, 430 in Hinwil and 300 in Munich. This has lead to more resources and were able to invest much more in development of this car. As Tech Director Willie Rampf said, it is a ‘radical evolution.’ He went on to say quite a bit about the car focusing on aerodynamic efficiency and balance leading to greater stability and improved downforce at the rear end. 2008-01-02 20:10:00 Hinwil - Sejak berkolaborasi di tahun 2006, BMW Sauber belum sekalipun merasakan puncak podium juara. Maka tak salah jika target tersebut dipasang untuk musim 2008. Performa Nick Heidfeld dan Robert Kubica, plus Sebastian Vettel memang cukup baik di musim lalu, walaupun belum cukup bagus untuk bisa berdiri sebagai juara pertama. Torehan terbaik wakil BMW Sauber hanya finis sebagai runner up oleh Heidfeld di GP Kanada. Begitu juga di musim 2006. Heidfeld yang berpartner Jacques Villenueve, plus Kubica sebagai third driver, tak mampu mencuri kesempatan untuk bisa mengisi podium juara. Berdasarkan pengalaman itulah, plus performa setiap musim yang semakin membaik, kubu BMW Sauber yakin target juara di salah satu seri F1 2008 bisa tercapai. “Untuk 2008, kami memasang target memperpendek jarak dengan tim-tim besar.
