China to Aid Saudi Arabia in Nuclear Power Development
2012-01-19 17:18:00 Ever since the end of World War Two, the U.S. has come to regard Saudi Arabia as almost its exclusive oil producing enclave. In February 1945, after the Yalta Conference with Soviet General Secretary Iosif Stalin and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, on his way home U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and King Ibn Saud met aboard the New Orleans-class heavy cruiser U.S.S. Quincy in the Suez Canal’s Great Bitter Lake. During the meeting, instigated by Roosevelt, he and Ibn Saud concluded a secret agreement in which the U.S. would provide Saudi Arabia military security, including military assistance, training and a military base at Dhahran in Saudi Arabia, in exchange for secure access to supplies of oil. . . . → Read More: China to Aid Saudi Arabia in Nuclear Power Development

Italy and Saudi Arabia Move To Regulate User Generated Content? What About
2011-01-06 12:15:00 In February last year an Italian Court handed 3 Google Execs a suspended sentence over a Youtube video which showed some Italian teenagers bullying a child with Down’s syndrome. Even though Youtube removed the video after it had been reported, the courted cited delays in this process as a reason to hold Google culpable. Although Google appealed the decision, it hasn’t hit the headlines ever since. I remember laughing at how strange it seemed, but after the initial amusement, I was genuinely concerned over whether this would represent a shift in the way user generated content was dealt with legally. Something told me, we would hear more from Italy and I was right. Back in September, It was reported that a Saudi Official had stated that all bloggers in Saudi Arabia would need to register for a license. But this was clarified the next day – Only News Sites and Bloggers would need to register. A spokesperson had admitted that it was futile to attempt to supervise the c...

Rapist Men in India to Breastfed car drivers in Saudi Arabia
2010-09-18 16:32:00 Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan remarked that ?due regard? should be given to the wishes of a rape victim if she chooses to marry the rapist or have the baby conceived as a result of the crime. This means ' if a rapist gives consent to marry a woman he has raped, there lies an opportunity of rehabilitating victim in the society?. This is an example of a modern welfare mechanism of Indian Society whose ancient mythology cites rape as one of the eight forms of marriage called ' Rakshas Vivah - devilish marriage '. In a vocal and argumentative India society, the views of Chief Justice were promptly denounced by woman organizations. In the space of a year, Official Saudi cleric proclaimed that if a woman breastfeeds another male, he become her son. Another debate followed - expressing shock, surprise on such a statement but this statement was smartly used by intelligent Saudi woman to substantiate their claims of letting them drive. Temporary Relief for BlackBerry in Saudi Arabia
2010-08-11 12:22:00 The Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) gets a temporary reliever as Saudi Arabia Government decides to lift the ban ‘temporarily’ on some of the services, owing to progress made by the Blackberry maker in addressing security concerns. It is not yet clear whether an explicit deal has been reached by the two parties or not. The Government threatened to ban the Messenger service last Friday but it was later extended by 48 hours (ending Monday) to test the domestic servers transmit the data in addition to RIM’s server in Canada. Incidentally, Reuters has reported that the RIM has agreed to share unique pin number and code with the Saudi Arabia Government. This would allow the authorities to read the encrypted messages sent through the messenger. However, this is applicable to all the Blackberry phones registered in Saudi only. Earlier, there were proposals to set the Blackberry server at each of the three Saudi service providers but it was soon deemed as unprac...

Saudi Arabia, Blogging And The Freedom Of Expression
2009-07-13 09:15:00 The internet is an excellent source of information, and the development of social media has revolutionised the way the internet is being used. True, the UGC is a great opportunity for marketing enthusiasts. But more importantly, the Web has given a excellent platform for people to speak out aloud, whether in appreciation, critical review, or more importantly, in dissent. The Iran Elections took the world by surprise. We blogged about how Iran citizens were using Twitter to broadcast their voices of revolution in a country where civil rights are suppressed without much regard. (On a more retrospective tone, we also blogged about how civil dissent on the internet is easier to monitor and thereby suppress). Which is why this article by Reuters on bloggers testing the boundaries in Saudi Arabia is very relevant to the current scenario. The article mentions how bloggers in Saudi Arabai are forming a close community. Saudi Arabia is well known for its press censorship which is why it is v...

Clinton, Obama, Saudi Arabia And China. Comments On The Comments.
2009-06-07 17:48:00 The other day, I did a quick post in a pique of anger at the US criticizing China's Human Rights record while Barack Obama was travelling in or to Saudia Arabia and Egypt. I found it absurd that we would be going after China for its HR issues at the same time we were (and have) pretty much completely ignored the far far worse records of Egypt and Saudi Arabia (and Syria, and Yemen and Libya and Zimbabwe, etc.). Not only do I find this selective calling out of countries hypocritical, but I also think it ineffective. On top of that, I see it being done not so much to bring about change in places like China, but to play well politically at home. Obama was elected on a platform of change and when he does things like that, he only reinforces that it's politics as usual. Needless to say, this post brought a wealth of comments and in this post, I respond to each and every one of your comments. First off, let me say that I appreciated ALL of your comments, even those that attacked...

Obama's Starched-Shirt Old & Middle-Aged White Men Mentors, like Lee Hamilt
2009-04-27 21:04:00 Anti-Zionism is the anti-imperialism of foolsObama is probably the greatest faker to become president since 1900 --and he has a lot of competition. Like George Bush Jr's pretense at being against "terrorism," whereas George B played ball with many a terrorist. Arafat was only one of them. But we think Obama takes the cake as a fraud. He came to power on the slogan of Change. Hence, a lot of the fools thought that he was against that old Establishment of middle-aged white men wearing ties, jackets, and starched shirts who have so long dominated Washington. In fact, Obama has long been taking counsel with the worst of these Establishment white men. Shortly before the inauguration, it came out that he met discreetly with Lee Hamilton, an ex-congressman, veteran hater of Israel, director of the Wilson Center, and the Hamilton of the Baker-Hamilton Report put out by the so-called Iraq Study Group. Note that George B Jr had already begun to implement their recommendations about two years...

Saudi Power/Influence in the United KIngdom -- Her Majesty's Britain
2009-03-31 23:28:00 Saudi Arabia has the power/influence not only to have American newspapers --that like to see themselves as "talking truth to power"-- bend over backwards to justify Saudi massacres of civilians but they have power/influence in the UK --Britain-- too. David Pryce-Jones reports several cases, one of which we have reported on Emet m'Tsiyon. In Britain Saudi demands have perverted the normal system of criminal investigation and caused injustice against British citizens oppressed ["mistreated"] by the Saudi kingdom. The situation is outrageous but it seems that there is not enough outrage to correct it.Here is our previous post on Saudi-demanded perversion of political and journalistic decency in the United States. This encounter happened in the month of April 1989. You can see the fresh blood stains on the rock. Most surprisingly, when the rock raises from the ground, these stains become darker, fresher and wet. Local residents tried to wipe off the stains several times, but after some time it appears again on the rock automatically...Isn't it astounding? Have a look....

The Mecca Massacre 1987 -- The Power/Influence of Saudi Arabia in the USA
2009-03-18 17:35:00 UPDATING 3-19-2009 & 3-21-2009 & 3-26-2009Anti-Zionism is the anti-imperialism of foolsA bloody event in Mecca on July 31, 1987, demonstrated the power or influence of Saudi Arabia in the United States, and over the communications media in particular. During the yearly Muslim haj pilgrimage to Mecca --occurring in July that year according to the Gregorian calendar-- Saudi police beat to death [or shot] a mass of Iranian pilgrims, estimated in numbers from 400 to 1500. Either the minimal or maximal number would be a shocking number of victims of police brutality. Now, police brutality had become a theme for outrage for many Americans, especially those considering themselves "liberals", "progressives", "leftists" and "radicals". If this shocking incident would end up by applying the label of "police brutality" to Saudi Arabia, that could cause difficulties for the Saudi-American relationship, a relationship which was profitable in money terms not only for the Saudi royal famil...

Saudi Arabia: 75 Year Old Woman Sentenced To 40 Lashes And Prison
2009-03-09 22:21:00 Our wonderful friends the SaudisA Saudi Arabian court has sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house, according to local media reports.According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, troubles for the woman, Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, began last year when a member of the religious police entered her house in the city of Al-Chamli and found her with two unrelated men, "Fahd" and "Hadian."Fahd told the policeman that he had the right to be there, because Sawadi had breast-fed him as a baby and was therefore considered to be a son to her in Islam, according to Al-Watan. Fahd, 24, added that his friend Hadian was escorting him as he delivered bread for the elderly woman. The policeman then arrested both men.Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism and punishes unrelated men and women who are caught mingling. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and...
Child Marriage In Saudi Arabia
2009-03-08 02:59:00 Just found this great article on child marriage in Saudi Arabia. Read it all. It explains that the concept of child marriage in Saudi Arabia is not just some fringe idea. Yet despite this Saudi Arabia is still considered one of our closest allies. I will never understand this.In the nation of Saudi Arabia the despotic feudal system remains and the rights of girls, women, non-Muslims, Shia Muslims, and others, are violated by the Sunni Islamic justice system. Despite this, major nations still desire to trade with Saudi Arabia and the oil factor and geopolitical issue, appears to override human rights. So when will Saudi Arabia be challenged by the international community? Before focusing on deeper political issues it is important to mention that laws in Saudi Arabia are based on Sharia Islamic Law and the Hadiths. Therefore, we are not talking about people on the margins of society who have no power, but who support child marriage; on the contrary, we are talking about major political...

2009-03-07 16:11:00 No autograph for you. Oh the joys of living under Islamic Law. (CNN) -- Saudi Arabia's religious police detained two male novelists for questioning last week after they attempted to get the autograph of a female writer at a book fair in Riyadh, according to local media reports.According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, Abdu Khal and Abdullah Thabet approached female writer Halima Muzfar when they were stopped by police. Both novelists, who were held for questioning but not charged with a crime, are demanding an apology from the conservative Muslim kingdom's Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. The commission, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with, among other things, enforcement of dress codes, mandatory observance of prayer times and segregation of the sexes.Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism and punishes unrelated men and women who are caught mingling in public.Saud...

Did a Hidden Saudi Hand Help Obama Rise to Fame and Fortune?
2008-09-08 06:46:00 Percy Sutton, former president of Manhattan Borough [that is, Manhattan island, a separate borough within New York City], disclosed in a TV interview that he had written letters to influential persons at Harvard to help Obama get into the law school. Sutton had done this on the recommendation of one Khalid al-Mansour, a Muslim convert and --according to Sutton-- "the principal advisor to one of the world's richest men." Since al-Mansour's Saudi ties are known, it is quite possible or even likely that certain Saudis, in particular, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, helped Obama with money and with influence, or string-pulling in plain English. Here is a video of the interview. Saudis and US: Dog and Tail
2008-07-11 05:47:00 Excellent commenter Lafayette Sennacherib suggests that the Saudis are in fact clients of the US. I disagree. LS: You talk about 'the Saudis' as if they were independent operators; they're not - they wouldn't last a minute without US support, same too with the elites in Egypt and Jordan. And most accounts suggest that Wahabbism is quite separate from the Saudi royal families; it's something they've made an accommodation with - they let them have their way in 'moral matters' to keep them quiet. I don't have the answers, but for 'Saudis' ultimately read ' US' elites - they have to do what they're told in the end. To what end, I don't know. To which I respond: Right, but what you mean when you say that they would not last a minute without US support is that the US for all intents and purposes is propping up an unpopular regime. It is unpopular because it is so pro-US! If it goes, you get radical Islam bigtime. Hamas X 10. You get more or less Al Qaeda in power in Arabia....

The Saudhouse
2008-07-09 07:55:00 Updated July 12:Are the Saudis behind Muslim terror most everywhere, or does it just seem like it?After all, 80% of Al Qaeda were Saudis several years ago. What's the figure now? We know that Zarqawi's Iraqi Al Qaeda was full of men from the Gulf, not necessarily Saudi Arabia, but Arabia nonetheless. Fallujah was full of these guys in 2004 during the two horrible US invasions of the town. And support for Al Qaeda is high in the Kingdom. A good 50% of the population supported bin Laden a few years back. The Al Qaeda unit inside Saudi Arabia, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, had vast support and was able to penetrate into the deepest recesses of the Saudi security forces during its operations. This is how it raided embassies. There were also times during the worst of the AQAP operations that the Saudi security forces just let AQAP escape from their very hands. This was due to huge support for AQAP inside the Saudi security forces themselves. What's happened since? With the death of...
