Legs McNeil, PLEASE KILL ME, THE OTHER HOLLYWOOD author: Mr. Media Audio In
2008-05-10 20:23:00
When Spin magazine started, its staff included two fascinating characters. First was Bob Guccione, Jr., the magazine?s founder and namesake son of the publisher of Penthouse. And then there was Spin?s senior editor, Legs McNeil.Legs McNeil!?!What the hell kind of stupid name was that for a journalist? I mean, I grew up with kids named "Plinky," "Jiggs," and "Doine," but "Legs"?Well, let me tell you, that guy Legs McNeil could write. Some months, the only copy worth reading in Spin was under his byline. It wasn?t until years later that I learned that in the early 1970s, McNeil was a co-founder, with John Holmstrom and Ged Dunn, of Punk Magazine, which gave name to an entire musical generation.McNeil has since written two remarkable non-fiction books, Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk, and The Other Hollywood: The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry He?s also involved in a new documentary series unspooling across VH1, Spike, and the Sundance Channel in Ma...

Only one hours drive from Cairns, the tablelands feature some magnificant waterfalls, crater lakes and rainforest. We also dropped into the Crystal Caves at Atherton which feature a great collection of crystals and fossils from around the world. The Undara lava tubes were formed one hundred and ninety thousand years ago when a volcanic eruption spewed lava along creeks and riverbeds to form the lava tubes left today. I interviewed Savannah Guide Val Speedie. Savannah guides is a network of professional tour guides with an in-depth collective knowledge of the natural and cultural assets of the tropical savannahs of northern Australia. Savannah

DescriptionThe Savannah cat breed is a domestic-wild hybrid. To create Savannahs, cat breeders cross domestic cats of a variety of breeds with an African Serval, and usually then further cross the offspring with other domestic cats. The Serval is a wild animal common in sub-Saharan Africa, but it is sometimes also kept as a pet, and the Savannah breed is known as being very companionable with humans despite its wild ancestry.Head: longer than wideEars: spottedBody: large, up to 32 pounds, smaller for femalesLegs: longTail: short, about three-fourths as long as other cats' tailsCoat: usually spotted, though there is a variety of coat patterns, as well as colorsPersonalityThough Savannahs have so much wild ancestry, they are remarkably loyal to their human companions. They tend to be energetically active, and also to get along well with other pets. Some people have also managed to train Savannah cats to do tricks.HistoryThe Savannah cat breed is a relatively new and rare cat breed. T...

K16537 - "Savannah" Table Lamps - Set of Two for only $99.98
2008-01-05 07:44:00
The "Savannah" lamps feature opulent style with a whimsical twist. The French parasol-style shades are crafted from a rich striped fabric in shades of gold, green and cream. Imported. The fabric shades feature 1-1/2" pleated galleries on top and are accentuated with beaded raindrop accents that echo the scalloping in the shades. The unique base of each lamp features a pearly white cockatoo bird perched on an extending branch. The cockatoo is a common accent for lighting in the South, and lends a decidedly tropical feel to any decor. The square-foot base is gilded in beautiful antique bronze finish. These lamps will look stunning placed amidst a tropical plant collection. It also seems they were designed to specifically grace a buffet table or sideboard. Or place them separately different areas throughout your home for twice the fun. From the Mark Roberts Collection.

Marc by Marc Jacobs in Savannah: A Shopaholic's Dream
2007-12-27 23:20:00
I returned to Savannah for Christmas this year and I was shocked to see that Broughton Street had transformed itself into a trendy, shopping mecca. The shop that surprised me the most was the Marc by Marc Jacobs which was spacious and very minimal in design. The people behind the counters looked like models or at the very least, very cool art students. However, this was Savannah, deep in the South, and the employees couldn't have been friendlier or more willing to help. The clothes were from the more affordable line, but I still couldn't afford (or let myself spend) $250 on a sweater. The purses were gorgeous but still pricy. The best thing about the shop was that there were loads of cool, unique trinkets that were under $25. I bought my best friend (and myself, I couldn't resist even though it was Christmas Eve) a cute tote bag with a drawing of a riverboat and the name Savannah underneath for a measly five bucks. Key chains ranged from a dollar to ten. There were make...
A Savannah, Musical Chairs & A Doctor!
2007-12-02 07:25:00
Saturday morning started with a bonding trip for Daddy and Bethany. Being members of Wellington Zoo meant we had a special invite to the grand opening of the new African Savannah which they have been working on for nearly a year now. Sounds like they had an awesome time, as they watched in the glorious morning sunshine the zebras, ostriches, antelopes and giraffe all make friends. As an extra special treat Bethany even got to feed a giraffe!! I heard the whole story from Bethany when she came home, there were very few breaths in between as she told me about how she saw other animals too and how they saw a baby chimp - but he was 'kinda ugly'! Sunday rolled around and we were excited to attend one of Bethany's little friends birthday party - Lydia was 4. There were heaps of children and they all had the most amazing fun playing, musical chairs, musical statues, pass the parcel and a treasure hunt whilst in between stuffing their faces with some yummy food and eating ice-crea...

Their newsletter will keep you updated of their latest discount and promos. Speaking of traveling, I went over to their website and saw their tour packages of Savannah. Aside from being a gadget buff, I?m also sort of a frustrated architect and I love seeing mansions and old homes. A friend recommended Savannah. She said that they have a Historic Homes Walk that will let you tour Savannah?s stateliest mansions. I saw some pictures of it on the internet and they do look beautiful, I bet they?re even more beautiful if I?ve seen it in person. Anyways, Trusted Tours and Attractions offer a lot of sightseeing tours aside from the History Homes Walk. Another tour that I?m interested in is the Owens-Thomas House, they say that it is one of the town?s mo...

Portland Senetor at Savannah
2007-09-12 00:14:00
Pictured above is the Portland Senetor in the Savannah River & in the background is the Bridge over the Savannah River named the "Eugene Talmade Memorial Bridge". I'm not sure anyone calles it that though. And the second picture shows us going underneath it at midnight. I had taken it on longer exposure so the thing has come out a little blurred. The savannah is a gently meandering river that snakes its way between the borders of two of the Western states of the US & the activity along it is surprisingly heavy. Most of the shipping traffic like Jettys & the terminals are built along thesouthern shore and because of this they stretch right along the river till more then fifty miles inland, So you actually have substantial traffic moving in the river even though there might not be much to see out there. I remember that I had gone ashore in Savannah as a third mate & for the first time in my life discovered a place called an "Army-navy sulprus store". The amount of cool stuff o...

Tugs of the Savannah
2007-09-09 14:46:00
Approaches to Mona Passage: 19 07 N, 068 05W , Spd : 13.4 Kts, Co - 172 TThere is a large lobby of ship enthusiasts that are ardent admirers of the Tug. The tugs are the work horses of the marine industry and are typically small vessels with a strong engine, built more for the power then for the speed. In fact a normalcruising speed of a tug rarely crosses 10 kts. Pictured above are a couple of tugs that passed by in the Savannah river. The Edward Moran is a typical tug used for ship handling & it is really beautiful. The tug is a classic and is built along the lines of the tugs made in the late 70's & eighties.I won't be surprised if that really was the age of the old lady as some of these vessels can last a long time in the rivers fresh water. The second tug, ugly by most descriptions, including some of my own, is the tug "Savannah" The reason that its front is cut off into a blunt end is because its really meant to carry barges. The US applies cabotage law along its coast. ...
Tokyo Express in Savannah
2007-09-08 19:13:00
Posted north East of Bahamas : 22 32 N, 070 51W, Spd 13.1, Co 131.8All mariners think of ships as women. Probably because we don't see many of the real ones. But notwithstanding any and all allegations of sexisms, you have to agree that you can tell a lot about a ship from the way her stern looks.Pictured above is the Container Ship Tokyo Express discharging Cargo at Savannah. The information garnered from the picture of the Stern is as follows:Name : Tokyo ExpressPort of Registry : HamburgIMO Number : 9193290Call Sign : DGTXPoints of note:The picture also shows some neat points of interest to those who think that those points of interest are neat. Firstly, the lifeboat used on the ship is that of the free fall lifeboat. The advantage of these lifeboats is that the owner is required toinstall only one of these on the ship. Conventional lifeboat fittings require each side of the vessel to have lifeboats for the total life saving capacity of the ship. The problem with this kind o...
Savannah: A Genteel City Who Knows A Good Time!
2007-08-25 01:18:00
If you are looking for a vacation spot with a city vibe and Southern Hospitality, then head to Savannah, Georgia. Just three hours southeast from Atlanta, Savannah is one of America?s oldest cities but with some of the best party spots. Blasted into the public eye by the book and film, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Savannah has become more popular in recent years but with good cause. Charming, historic homes double as bed and breakfasts and many of them are surrounded by sweeping trees with Spanish Moss. Savannah?s famous squares are easy to walk to and fun to explore. There?s an abundance of hotels, but I usually stay at the Hyatt Regency. It?s stylish, the rooms are huge, and the staff make you feel right at home. The best part, though, is that the Hyatt has it?s own entrance to River Street, the main hub in Savannah. No matter what day it is or what the weather?s like, River Street is always bustling. Jazz musicians playing along the Savannah River can be hear...
