Scheider was a two time Oscar nominated actor for 1971’s The French Connection and also the 1979 film All That Jazz. Roy Scheider lived in Sag Harbor, New York with his wife Brenda Siemer. Scheider ultimately died due to a staph infection. He had suffered for years fighting multiple myeloma. Roy Scheider was most widely known for his starring role in the 1975 blockbuster Jaws. Roy was pretty much a private man who was involved in a number of community projects up to his death including Hayground School in Bridgehampton, dedicated to creating an innovative, culturally diverse learning environment for local children. It was the first real summer blockbuster and the first film to earn $100 million at the box office. In 2005, one of Scheider's most famous lines in the movie ? "You're gonna need a bigger boat" ? was voted No. 35 on the American Film Institute's list of best quotes from the U.S. He molded the characters of police Chief Brody and his family into people we cared about deeply. Rest in peace, Roy. And we're still "gonna need a bigger boat." You will be missed.
