A Paul Scholes second half injury time goal was enough to see Man United take all three points and put some pressure on Chelsea. It was a must win game for both teams and I was expecting a fiery, passionate derby game but what we got was a dull game with not that many attempts at either goal. Man City made one change to the side, which saw Wayne Bridge come in from a five month lay off. Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs were both passed fit and were able to start but Rio Ferdinand didn?t even make the bench so Jonny Evans came into the side. Owen Hargreaves was also left out, which is a shame it would have been good to see him in the team, even if it was only on the bench. United dominated throughout the game, with the home side only really looking threatening on the counter. The new contract will see the midfielder stay at United until 2011. Scholes has played 34 times for Man United this season, scoring six goals. Scholes joined United in 1991 as a trainee and the 35-year old has gone on to make 639 appearances for United, scoring 148 goals with more yet to come. Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year. "His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, that?s every reason to stay on. The defence is Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra with Rooney and Tevez upfront. But what about the midfield? There is so much talent to pick from, the only player i would say is guarnteed a place is Ronaldo. So who are the other three? ~ The choices are: Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Giggs, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Park and Eagles. ~ Giggs and Scholes are getting older but they still have a massive part to play in the United team. Nani and Anderson joined United in the summer and they have surprised me how quickly they have settled down into the team. Fletcher hasnt played much so far this season but when he has come in, he has played extremly well. Everyone knows about Ronaldo, he in my opinion is currently the best player in the world.
