Habs schools the Leafs.
2008-10-12 03:36:00
Only 24 hours after their deceiving performance in Buffalo, the Montreal Canadiens were the guests of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada centre. Tonight's game was the home opener for the Leafs a few days after their brilliant victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions.Jaroslav Halak was in net for Montreal and he had to keep Toronto off the score sheet after only a few minutes. The solid play from the Habs goaltender gave confidence to Montreal. Once the early Toronto storm has passed, the Canadiens opened the flood gates on the Leafs. The Habs scored twice during the first period with goals from Roman Hamrlik and Alex Kovalev. Montreal added four goals during the second frame. Sergei Kostitsyn scored twice, Guillaume Latendresse added one goal while Alex Tanguay scored his first one as a member of the Canadiens.Montreal's power play was clicking as they converted on the man advantage a total of three times during the evening. The line composed of Saku Koivu, Guillaum...

Business Schools Expect Boom as Economy Sags
2008-10-02 08:32:00
Due in large part to volatile markets, the business school business has been very hectic lately, a climate that could?if conventional wisdom holds?create one of the most competitive admissions cycles in history. Business school recruiting events are often standing-room only, and test prep companies are fielding dozens more phone calls a day from nervous prospects. INK_BLAST | MILITARY RECRUITERS BULLY SCHOOLS FOR ACCESS TO STUDENTS
2008-09-24 20:46:00
A couple of years ago I was helping a high-school senior with his college applications, but the military had other plans for him. Without his parents? permission, a recruiter had set up an appointment with him at his home while his folks were at work. After the son informed his father of the impending visit by a recruiter whose name he did not know and whom he had no way of contacting, his father, understandingly alarmed, called me.

Saline Area Schools Survey, Parents Input Needed
2008-09-21 16:43:00
Saline Area Schools is doing a need assessment for each of our schools and wants the parents input. As parents and members of Saline Area Schools District, it is important we take the opportunity to provide our input. There are two different pilots to choose from, one if you have a child attending a school and one if you are like me and they have graduated, but still like to participate in the schools. The survey they have selected has been developed by the National Education Association (NEA) and schools/districts all over the country are currently using this tool to assist them in creating comprehensive school improvement plans for their schools to improve teaching and learning for all children.  The KEYS 2.0 Survey tool is a comprehensive survey that collects data from teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community at large.  If you have a child in more than one building in the Saline Area School District they are asking you complete the survey for each b...

New pressure over faith schools
2008-08-31 10:29:00
BBC says,'Ministers are being urged to stop faith schools in England selecting pupils and staff on the basis of their religion.Accord, a new coalition of secular and religious figures, wants the government to stop state-funded schools engaging in what they say is "discrimination".It argues that all children should have equal access to good local schools and that segregating them on religious grounds harms community cohesion. The government argues faith schools can help boost standards in deprived areas. There are about 6,850 faith schools in England out of a total of 21,000 schools. The vast majority of these are Roman Catholic or Church of England. But they also include about 40 Jewish schools and a handful of Muslim, Sikh and Greek Orthodox schools. In September 2007, Schools Secretary Ed Balls said the government would open more faith schools where there was parental demand. But the move has angered some teachers who complain of discriminatory employment practices. The Accord coaliti...

Is Being a Few Blocks from Los Gatos Schools at the Top of Your Homebuying
2008-06-11 08:15:00
Recently I listed a great home that's in an ideal Los Gatos location - close to award-winning, highly acclaimed Los Gatos Schools: Van Meter Elementary School, Blossom Hill School, and Fisher Middle School. It's also a quick jaunt to the wonderful shops, banks, grocery stores and restaurants at the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Los Gatos Boulevard. With approximately 1800 square feet of comfortable ranch-style living on an 8700 square foot cul-de--sac lot, it's a great amount of space inside & out. The updated house features hardwood floors throughout (except in the bathrooms), a flexible floorplan that includes a good-sized step-down living room, large dining room, and extra room to boot, which can be used as a den, library, music room, play room or sitting area. There are huge windows overlooking the park-like setting. It's a wonderful retreat. This weekend we'll have our first open house events and I invite you to stop by! Schools Feel the Clutches of Higher Gas Prices
2008-06-02 19:01:00
Like all of us, schools around the nation are feeling the effects of high gas prices. As but one example, Nash-Rocky Mount schools in North Carolina burned through about $729,000 in fuel in the last fiscal year ? nearly twice as much as in the previous year. In an effort to cope, schools are coming up with a range of strategies--all of which involve cutting services. In Minnesota, for instance, one district plans to eliminate classes every Monday to come up with the extra $65,000 it needs to fill its buses' tanks. The superintendent commented "I know $65,000 may not sound like a lot, but it's more than one teaching position,"
