For the making of this 2.6 ft h x 4 ft w x 20.4 ft d; 22,528 recycled computer keycaps, 192 custom keycaps, fabric, customized active keyboard, interactive software, video projection and painted aluminum were used, and this will also make it the world's longest keypad. The keys spelt out a line-by-line transcript of the email communication the artists had regarding the creation of the artwork, allowing the sculpture to archive its own making! The first three rows of emails feature active keys which allows visitors to key in their own message which are projected onto the opposite side of the fabric. Each of these modules are built in the similar fashion of what forms the basic of a house (walls/ roof/ door ??.) which all come under a typographical character. This 'table' is supposed to be an invitation to the birds to come and have food, drink or even take a nap. The space is been arranged in a systematic order that has a place to live, dark niches to take rest, and it also has small containers for food, storage for maintenance requirement and the other things. Although the carving and modeling methods require great skill, the techniques used are fairly simple- you basically use tools and your bare hands to “add” or “subtract” material until you get your desired product. Once you have carved away from a stone or other hard surface, you can sand it and polish it. If you were carving from clay the last step would be to fire it in a kiln or heat it in an oven. But how are bronze and other cast sculptures made? It’s not like there’s a chunk of metal and the sculptor chisels away at it. Casting is a little more complicated than the other two types of sculpture. It takes a team of several people, a foundry, and a 10 step process that has been around since 3000 B.C.
