UFC 84 Ill Will Results… BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Wanderlei Silva, Keith Jard
2008-05-27 18:55:00
UFC 84 Ill Will Results.. BJ Penn is now the champ… Wanderlei shows everyone why he’s called the Axe Murderer. B.J. Penn defeated Sean Sherk via TKO (referee’s decision) at 5:00 of Round 3 This was a good fight. BJ and Sean went toe to toe for three rounds. Only a few attempts to shoot were made, however, the fight never went to the mat. BJ had the better of the stand up fight, his pin point accuracy delivered continual jabs to the cheeks of Sean Sherk. Sherk attempted to retaliate with heavy punches, but never seemed to land “that” effective punch. At the end of the third, BJ Penn finished Sean with an amazing knee to Sean’s dome. Wanderlei Silva whoops Keith Jardine via KO at 0:36 of Round 1 Don’t even know what to say here… Wanderlei made Keith look like a total amateur. Wanderlei landed KO punches over and over leaving Keith on the mat, eyes rolled back unable to respond long that he still wasn’t alert during the int...

Fight Break Downs:Lyoto Machida (-200 BetUS) vs. Tito Ortiz (+180 Bodog) Machida may not have an endless KO highlight reel but while training out of the Black House with Anderson Silva and A. Nogueira he has developed his own unique and undefeated style. He has combined his karate background with Muay Thai, wrestling, and Jiu Jitsu techniques (starting at 15) into a calm counter fighting style. The dragon's style may never be a fan favorite, but it wins by forcing opponents to step outside of their own game plan.Lyoto's gameplan in this fight will look much like it has in other UFC fights. He will stay outside counter punching and throwing the occasional back kick. It is very likey that he will be taken down in the first round and see the same sort of barrage that Forrest experienced. Lyoto has both the chin and the skill from his back to avoid serious damage. In the second round Tito will likely taste Lyoto's power and speed. We all know what happens when Tito gets hit, it gets ...
Betting Odds - UFC 84, BJ Penn vs Sean Sherk, Wanderlei Silva vs Keith Jard
2008-05-12 22:37:00
BetUS has the UFC 84 betting odds posted to their site.  BJ Penn is favored over Sean Sherk, -230 to +180 on Sean Sherk.  Wanderlei Silva is favored over Keith Jardine, -185 to +145 and Lyoto Machida is favored over Tito Ortiz! - 220 to +175 on Tito…  My bet for the night… I wouldn’t mind dropped a hundred down on Tito and possibly winning $220, seems like a deal worth while… I think Machida is an excellent favor, but I’d take the risk going with Tito. If you’re interested in laying down some cashola, check out all of the betting lines here.

UFC 84 Sean Sherk vs BJ Penn Betting Odds and Analysis
2008-05-06 00:57:00
BJ Penn is the shit, really! and Sean Sherk....well in my opinion he isn't! The matchup definitely makes this fight. BJ has accumulated a retarded amount of skill and now he's decided to start training some of that cardio stuff. BJ Penn in shape has more options to win a fight than any one else in the game (maybe Silva) it's that simple. At 155 BJ has a size advantage and in terms of leverage and mobility a strength advantage as well in this fight, You may think whatever, but whatch his fights with muscle strong guys like Steveson and Hughes and even back in the day against Machida and you'll see how much of an advatage he can have.Picure Sherk's last fight...I know that's a long time, but can you really picture Sherk wrestling BJ down and maintianing his lay'n'pray for 5 rounds??? Because that's his only option for a win. Sherk's reach is so ridiculously short the only way he's ever scored a real TKO was with ground and pound. It takes the crazy athletasism of a GSP to g...
George St. Pierre vs. Sean Sherk (UFC)
2008-05-05 09:37:00
George "Rush" St. Pierre vs. Sean "The Muscle Shark" SherkMuscle Shark x Rushby doctorcolosus7Why am I putting up this fight?Because I believe that BJ Penn has Sherk's number as long as he initiates the takedowns. Sherk is just like a more compact and weaker version of Matt Hughes, and as we know, Penn can hold his own against Hughes. Like most wrestlers, Sherk is definitely weakest on his back, and as this fight as well as the GSP vs. Matt Hughes fight shows, these incredibly talented and strong wrestlers as taken completely out of their element when someone beats them to the takedown.I'm not saying that Sherk holds no chance against Penn, because that is definitely not the case- Sherk is definitely one of the cardio beasts out there (insert steroid jokes here)- Will BJ's cardio be able to stand against Sherk's? Will BJ be able to take down Sherk/avoid Sherk's takedowns? Will "Baby Hughes" be able to land on top and stall out to a decision? Will BJ break Sherk's nose like GSP...

Shogun, Sherk Make UFC 84 Card Great
2008-01-10 20:27:00
According to different reports by MMAJunkie.com, both Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Sean Sherk have been added to a Montreal event in April. This same event is expected to host the title unification match between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra.Shogun will be returning from his disappointing submission loss to Forrest Griffin and attempting to gain his first win inside the Octagon. Had Shogun won his fight at UFC 76, he would have been afforded an immediate title shot against Champion Quinton Jackson. Now, Shogun finds himself near the middle of a strong light heavyweight division and badly needing a win.Even more urgent is the plight of Sean Sherk, who was stripped of his belt after testing positive for Nandrolone following his UFC 73 win against Hermes Franca. He has been told that his first fight back will be for the title, so this UFC 84 match up should be against either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. Sherk needs to win to gain back both his title and his credibility.Georges St. P...
Sean Sherk Interview
2008-01-05 02:53:00
Writer Ben Zeidler recently caught up with Sean Sherk to discuss just about every aspect of the steroid controversy, his feelings on BJ Penn, and the Lay ?N Pray style he?s often criticized for. Here are the highlights of that interview. Originally conducted for MMA MadnessBen Zeidler: What?s the story with your title being stripped considering you?re eligible to return in January? It doesn?t make sense to me.Sean Sherk: You know, Dana basically said that he wants to stay consistent with what he has done in the past. In the past, if you did it or not, you got the belt stripped. He believes that I didn?t do it and I know that I didn?t do it, but the belt gets stripped. That?s just the way it is.BZ: Are you pleased with the announcement that you?ll get the winner of Penn-Stevenson?SS: I knew that already. As soon as they told me that they were taking it [the belt], they said my first fight back would be against the winner. To be honest with you, I still feel like I am champion and th...

Sean Sherk on BJ Penn: ?I think BJ Penn is a punk.?
2007-12-11 16:21:00
When former UFC Lightweight Champion, Sean Sherk tested positive for Nandrolone following his bout with Hermes Franca at UFC 73, BJ Penn made it verbally clear on a number occasions that he would not fight Sherk if Sherk?s suspension was upheld by the California State Athletic Commission. As we learned last week, Sherk?s suspension ...

Sherk Stripped Of Title
2007-12-09 22:54:00
UFC officials have confirmed that now ex-champ Sherk has been stripped of his Lightweight title. This is in contrast to White's promise that Sherk would remain the champion due to the lackof professionalismwith which the investigation proceeded. The decision to strip Sherk is made even more puzzling by the fact that the suspension was to end in January, just days after the interim title was to be awarded to either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. After his UFC 73 win over Hermes Franca, Sherk tested positive forNandrolone. Unlike the Nevada State Athletic Commission, California's doesn't reserve the right to overturn a fight's decision (in this case, a win by Sherk). The CSAC went on to suspend Sherk for a year, but after an appeal and many questions regarding the validity and court's proceedings, Sherk's suspension was reduced to six months. Since the suspension is retroactive to the Franca fight, Sherk is technically eligible to return to the Octagon in late January.Since the ...
Sean Sherk Keeps His UFC Lightweight Belt
2007-12-07 20:37:00
It was announced today by Yahoo Sports that Sean Sherk will keep his UFC lightweight title.  According to the short story, today “the UFC confirmed that Sherk remains the promotion’s 155-lb. titleholder.” So I guess this makes the Joe Stevenson / BJ Penn Interim title a worthless tag?  Hopefully the winner of the BJ vs Joe fight will get a title shot against Sean.
And Still Your UFC Lightweight Champion?Sean Sherk!!!
2007-12-07 16:53:00
That?s right Sean Sherk will not be stripped of his title and will remain the UFC Lightweight Champion. The Houston Chronicle?s Steve Sievert is reporting that UFC has decided to allow Sean Sherk to retain his title despite of having his suspension being upheld by the California State Athletic Commission. Shame on the UFC If this ...
Sherk Eligible To Fight In January
2007-12-04 22:44:00
According to information received from the CSAC, Sherk?s suspension has been reduced to six months, from one year. As is standard in suspensions, Sherk receives credit for time already served, which means he is eligible to return to mixed martial arts competition in January. (As reported by MMAJunkie.com)Sherk, who defended his title with a unanimous-decision victory over Hermes Franca in July, tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, during an event drug test. The event took place July 7 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and the California State Athletic Commission subsequently suspended Sherk one year and fined him $2,500.Sherks? original hearing was set for August. However, after securing the services of accomplished doping lawyer Howard Jacobs, Sherk was granted an extension for the appeal, which took place Oct. 31. However, key paperwork submitted by Jacobs was not distributed to commission members prior to the hearing, and the co...
Dana White to “Probably” Strip Sean Sherk of Title
2007-11-13 18:19:00
According to the Fight Network, “UFC president Dana White revealed today he will “probably” strip UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk of his title if his positive steroids test is not overturned by the California State Athletic Commission when it reconvenes in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 4.”  In the mean time, BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will face off at UFC 80 for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship title.  UFC 80 will take place on January 19, 2008, so there’s a good possibility “interim” will be converted into “The UFC Lightweight Championship”.  It will be interesting to see the results, possibly Sherk will be an example to up and coming fighters considering the possibility of using performance enhancing drugs.
IWF Exclusive: The Future Of The UFC
2007-11-11 06:18:00
Although we have a set title fight in our sights (Hughes vs. Serra), a slightly deeper look into the ranks of the UFC will give us a more accurate picture of how the sport should shape up over the next six months. While feuds and rivalries culminate in once-a-month events, the sport is built between those events as every member of the roster fights, bargains, and even pleads for a title shot. The following is a look at each division and who is fighting for the title.Heavyweights: With Andrei Arlovski missing his new contract, Cro Cop dropping fights like he was bought off, and Couture temporarily out of the fight game, the whole division is really up for grabs. It?s unlikely that White would simply award the belt to the winner of an upcoming fight as it wouldn?t make sense for Kongo or Nogueira to receive a title with very little UFC experience under their belts. He could justify giving it to Sylvia as he was the last guy to hold the belt and is fresh off a win, but I doubt he?d...
Sean Sherk Talks CSAC & Interim Title - 08 Nov 2007 06:19:45am
2007-11-08 07:19:00
By Damon Martin Since his fight on July 7 against Hermes Franca, Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Sean Sherk has been sitting in limbo following a positive test result for performance enhancing drugs. He has twice been scheduled to have a hearing with the California State Athletic Commission to resolve the accusations and twice the commission has issued a continuance to a future date. ?It makes me real angry,? said Sherk about the appeal process with the CSAC. ?They had a lot of time to prepare for my case and they weren?t prepared and now I?m the one suffering for it. I?m the only one suffering in this whole situation. I mean, I?m sitting here and I feel kind of helpless. ?I?m in the hands of the California commission and I don?t know if they?re not taking this case as serious as they should or what the deal is, but it?s real, real frustrating for me.? While waiting for the final judgment on his case ? Sherk is currently slated to appear again in front of ...
Sherk Not Stripped; Penn-Stevenson For Interim
2007-11-04 20:33:00
According to UFC President Dana White, Sean Sherk will not be stripped of his Lightweight title, but BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will have the opportunity to fight for an interim belt.Yahoo! Sports reported this:White had vowed to strip Sherk of the title, but said Friday that he no longer plans to do so."The way this whole thing has been handled has been a mess," White said.He said Penn and Stevenson, who said he learned on Tuesday that he and his wife will have another son, will fight for the interim title as the main event of UFC 80 in Newcastle, England, likely on Jan. 19.The winner of that bout would then presumably face Sherk once Sherk's status is defined by the commission.White said heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabricio Werdum would meet in the co-main on UFC 80.This is an excellent move by Dana White. It would have been a mistake to let an entire division become stagnant for a year simply because the President felt the appeal was not handled properly. Instead, White ha...
It's a Big Day For Sean Sherk - 31 Oct 2007 04:11:04pm
2007-10-31 17:11:00
The status of the UFC lightweight title should be clear later today, when champion Sean Sherk finally meets with the California State Athletic Commission to appeal his one-year suspension. Sherk tested positive for the steroid Nandrolone following his lightweight title defense against Hermes Franca at UFC 73. UFC President Dana White has said that he will see what the Commission's final decision is before he determines what to do with the lightweight title. Phil Baroni, Kazuhiro Nakamura and Adam Smith are also scheduled to appear in front of the commission on Wednesday to appeal their suspensions.

More Money, More Problems: Steroids in MMA
2007-08-07 18:43:00
With the latest steroid scandal giving MMA another black eye the time has come for self regulation. It is simply too easy to cheat the system. Now that Dana White has carried the sport to new levels its time to take action. There is no perfect solution but simply leaving the responsibility in the hand of the athletic comission is not enough. It doesn?t take a genius to realize that steroid use lurks in the shadows of virtually every competitive sport. With more scandals and positive tests than I care to keep track of these days I am almost ready to accept that as long as big money is on the line, athletes will do anything to gain that extra advantage. Recently Mixed Martial Arts has come under fire for an alarming host of positive tests and it?s not just how many, but also who has been caught. In the latest UFC title fight between Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca, both champion and challenger tested positive. This is just the latest incident in a string of positive tests that include ...
Update: Franca's Suspension and Fine Upheld
2007-08-07 04:24:00
Despite an apology and a request for a lighter sentence, luck was still no where to be found for Hermes Franca. The CSAC suspended Hermes France until July 5, 2008 along with a $2,500 fine. Hermes Franca lost his title shot against Sean Sherk by a unanimous decision at UFC 73: Stacked on July 7.On July 19, 2007, the CSAC announced that Franca had tested positive for the steroid Drostanolone in a post-fight drug test.Sherk on the other hand, has filed for an extension on his hearing. The Lianger
Update: Sherk Files For Extension on Appeal
2007-08-06 17:17:00
UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk, who tested positive for steroids (Nandrolone Metabolite, has filed for an extension with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), delaying his appeal to the steroid allegations.Sherk's appeal was originally set to take place today, August 6, as well as UFC president Dana White's decision of whether or not to strip Sherk of his belt.It seems if everyone will have to wait till October for Sherk's hearing and possibilities of Sherk vs. Penn remain hazy.Sherk had this to say:?I don?t want this to take any longer than it has to, but I hired my lawyer just a couple of weeks ago. I want to get this done as soon as possible so I can fight B.J. [Penn] in November, but the next hearing wouldn?t be until October.?I will keep you posted on this prolonged drama series. The Lianger
Steroids Update: White Speaks About Sherk, Franca
2007-08-01 16:33:00
In a recent interview conducted by ESPN The Magazine, Dana white is speaks about the recent steroid frenzy and his thoughts on the situation.ESPN The Magazine conducted a pretty in-depth interview on White's thoughts on the steroid situation going on in the UFC.White expresses his beliefs about UFC Lightweight champion Sean "The Muscle Shark" Sherk and Hermes Franca, both whom tested positive after their showdown at UFC 73.Dana White's opinions about Sherk are the following:ESPN The Magazine: How did you feel personally when Sherk [allegedly] flunked his test?White: I've known Sean Sherk for a long time. He's a really good man. He trains hard and has worked hard to get where he's at. You and me probably have six nanograms [of the steroid Nandrolone] in our system; he had 12. Other guys who've been busted for the same steroid have had over 50 nanograms in their system. What my experts tell me is, there's no way that he would only have 12 in his system. I'm not his father. If ...

Drugs: A Rising Problem in MMA?
2007-07-20 04:02:00
These days, drugs almost seem to be a part of a mixed martial artist's everyday diet. Recently we've had an influx of fighters testing positive for some form of substance. Fighters which include UFC hall of famer Royce Gracie, Nick Diaz, Stephan Bonnar, Thiago Alves, Johnnie Morton, and more recently UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and his most recent challenger Hermes Franca. Unfortunately, drug abuse is becoming a major problem in MMA today. The California State Athletic Commission recently released drug testing results. As many as twenty-eight fighters licensed by CSAC have violated the state's anti-doping policy from March 31 through July 6 of 2007. What's more sad is that a whopping 71 percent are from mixed martial arts alone. Shocking to say the least, considering that MMA has 14 fewer cards than boxing and kickboxing combined. The list released by CSAC does not specificy the type of failure to fighters of any discpline, however there were 28 violations reported, 9 of w...

SHERK TESTS POSITIVE FOR STEROIDS
2007-07-20 00:00:00
UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk has tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite following his title defense July 7 in Sacramento, Calif, the state's athletic commission revealed Thursday. Sherk scored a dominating five-round decision win over Brazilian Hermes Franca, whom the CSAC also said tested positive for the banned substance Drostanolone. As a punishment, the current Lightweight Champion will not be able to compete for a full year. After testing both "A" and "B" samples of the urine specimen provided by Sherk the day before the fight, the UFC champion's Nandrolone level was certified by the Director of Science and Technology at the lab conducting the tests at 12 ng/ml, two times higher than the threshold allowed by the CSAC, said the state regulatory body. The Minnesotan lightweight has been fined $2,500 and suspended 365 days from the date of the fight, including an additional 10 days that would need be served if Sherk reapplied for a license to fight in the Golden State.C...

UFC All Access - Sean SherkUploaded by PrinceninoA big thank you to Tom for emailing me this great clip. Sean Sherk may be fitter than me but I reckon I'd knock him out in the first 10 seconds. This is how martial artists need to train. None of this 'running for an hour in a straight line' bullsh*t. Plenty of compound exercises, short rests and fight specific conditioning.Nice one Sean. . . . you big jessie.

UFC 73: What's Next?
2007-07-09 06:56:00
In my last post, UFC 73: Quick Results, I didn't really get into the details of what happened at the event, why certain outcomes were noteworthy, and where the UFC and its fighters go from here. I didn't do any of that. But I'll do it now.Who does Sean Sherk fight next?A little-known 155 pounder named Masson Liang. Just kidding...actually, I don't know who he's going to fight. Since the Lightweight division is relatively new and unfilled, who is to take the takedown master on while all the Welterweights cut pounds? I don't really need to see a rematch with Florian and Penn seems to be more interested in fighting up a class. BJ is no longer the svelte Hawaiian who took out Caol Uno in 11 seconds. Maybe Nick Diaz or Sports Illustrated cover boy Roger Huerta? It's possible, but there's nothing currently in the works. With 9 events in between Sherk's last two bouts, don't expect a title defense before the New Year. What happens in Silva-Franklin II?The same damn thing....
UFC 73 Betting Odds and Smart Bets

The big juicy card we've all been waiting for is finally just around the corner. The odds have moved around quite a bit but they appear to be settling in. The main line to keep an eye on is Franca's, it looks good now but could definitely get better.Desert Dog?s Smart Bets for UFC 73:Main Card Bouts:Anderson Silva -160 (Bet $100 to win $62.50) BetUSAntonio Nogueira -500 No ActionRashad Evans +120 (Bet $100 win $120) SportsBookHermes Franca +225 (Bet $100 win $225) BookmakerKenny Florian -310 No Action (Bet on Alvin if line hits +400)Preliminary Bouts:Chris Lytle - 400 No ActionFrankie Edgar -240 No ActionJorge Gurgel -285 No ActionStephan Bonnar -300 (Bet $100 win $33.33) SportsBookAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. The best value on this card is Hermes Franca at +225. Rashad is a good bet at +115 or better and Bonnar is a solid chalk bet at -300 or better. I would seriously consider a dog bet on Alvin Robinson if his odds hit +400, he...
UFC 73 Early Betting Odds

UFC 73 Stacked betting odds have for 3 of the main card fights (right side of page) have been out for almost two months now and with all other events out of the way the public eyes are now focusing on the July card. All three of these main event fights are very tight matchups which are close to 50/50 in true probabilities. However, current belt holders and fan favorites tend to become overvalued especially during early betting. If you're looking to shop for odds on a few of the dogs now is the time.....These are not necessarily my predictions, just pointing the current value on the dogs.I'll discuss the specifics of the matchups in more detail later this week, but for now I'm just going to point out where the best returns are.Hermes Franca odds recently moved to +225 at Bookmaker.com. I would say that this is one of the best values on the card. The trend looks like it could get as good as +250, but it's worth catching it here if this is a bet you want to take.Nate Marquardt's od...
