Still No USOC Lawsuits Over Seattle-Area Use of OLYMPIC as Trademark
2008-06-09 05:10:00 Not to tempt fate, but I couldn’t help but notice that the U.S. Olympic Committee has not flooded the Western District of Washington with lawsuits over Seattle-area companies’ use of OLYMPIC in their names and trademarks. (See STL posts on this issue from August 12, 2007; Jan. 10, 2008; Jan. 13, 2008; and Jan. 28, 2008). In fact, the USOC has not filed a single lawsuit in the Western District despite hundreds of Washington businesses making use of the word that has caused the USOC to send letters to some demanding that they cease and desist such use. Its heavy-handed demand letters notwithstanding, the USOC seems to have a lighter touch when it comes to filing suit. Knock on wood.

2008-06-08 11:59:00 Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield led his Boston Red Sox team to a resounding 11-3 stomping of the Seattle Mariners, and he was flat out brilliant. At one point he retired 12 Mariners in a row. He allowed five hits, but only three of them were longer than 25 feet. Wakes said he was staying back longer during his delivery, and that helps his control as his knuckleballs dart and zoom and dance THROUGH the strike zone. One of his strikeouts victims was Kenji Johjima, and the pitch was eerily reminicent of the famous "eephus" pitch, a pitch thrown so slowly it almost looks like a slo-mo instant reply. The pitch was beautifully slow and the whiff was real. Wakes went seven innings, and the bullpen polished off the west coasters. Craig Hansen continued to show a biting slider and a good fastball and breezed through the eighth. I now have good reason to go?my handy dandy Google Alert just informed me that my epic exploration of Asian America (and space aliens!), The Theory of Everything, will open SIS Productions' 2009 season in Seattle. (You know, if it weren't for Google, I would have no idea what was happening with my career.)For no reason other than ancient Chinese intuition (yeah, there's some Chinese blood pumping through my Thai veins), I've always felt a strange affinity with Seattle, even though I've never been there or know much about the city. 2008-06-03 04:19:00 Hi Folks, I left for Seattle Saturday morning and had a boring and uneventful flight, except for the killer ear ache insighted upon approach to Seattle. Now, I remember why I don’t like to fly. Kelly’s brother, Suart, picked me up at the airport and and we went straight to the hospital from there. The good news was that she was no longer unconscious and she was moving from intensive care to acute care, which indicates improvement. The bad news was the heartache of seeing my friend so beaten and bruised and confused. I really couldn’t tell if she knew me in any sense of the word and though I felt I saw a spark in her eye and she gripped my hand very tightly - it is just as easy to believe that it was only reflex and no true recognition. The move from intensive care to that of a shared room in acute care, along with a myriad of visitors proved to be too much for her and she became over stimulated.
