Secession Over the Second Amendment?
2008-03-14 17:33:00
The State of Montana may make a move to leave the Union if the Supreme Court decides that the Second Amendment is a collective right, not an individual right. From PatriotPost.us: In the continuing saga of District of Columbia v. Heller, 39 of Montana?s elected officials have signed a resolution declaring that a Supreme Court ruling against the individual right of gun ownership would give their state grounds for leaving the union. It seems that when Montana?s settlers signed a statehood contract in 1889, one of the conditions was that the federal government agreed that individuals had the right to keep and bear arms. If the Supreme Court rules that firearm ownership is merely a state or ?collective? right, Montana officials say that the statehood contract will have been breeched. ?The U.S. would do well to keep its contractual promises to the states that the Second Amendment secures an individual right now as it did upon execution of the statehood contract,? Montana Secretary of St...

To secede or not to secede?
2007-10-03 18:43:00
From the Associated Press as found at Yahoo.comCHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In an unlikely marriage of desire to secede from the United States, two advocacy groups from opposite political traditions ? New England and the South ? are sitting down to talk. Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully. That sounds just fine to the League of the South, a conservative group that refuses to give up on Southern independence."We believe that an independent South, or Hawaii, Alaska, or Vermont would be better able to serve the interest of everybody, regardless of race or ethnicity," said Michael Hill of Killen, Ala., president of the League of the South.Separated by hundreds of miles and divergent political philosophies, the Middlebury Institute and the League of the South are hosting a two-day Secessionist Convention starting Wednesday in Chattanooga. They expect to attract supporters from Ca...
In Vermont, nascent secession movement gains traction
2007-06-04 10:45:00
MONTPELIER, Vt. –At Riverwalk Records, the all-vinyl record store just down the street from the state Capitol, the black “US Out of Vt.!” T-shirts are among the hottest sellers. But to some people in Vermont, the idea is bigger than a $20 novelty. They want Vermont to secede from the United States — peacefully, of course. Disillusioned ...

Those wishing to see the Danish Muhammad (pbuh) cartoons that are causing so much controversy can see them on this site by clicking here. Even worse anti-Muhammad (pbuh) cartoons can be seen on this site here and here. The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. Exclusive photos of dogs eating human corpses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this site here. The Kurds are an "Aryan" people in the true, Indo-European sense of the word (not the Nazi aberration meaning "Nordic"), referring to the populations of Northern India, Afghanistan, Turkey and Iran. Their origins are uncertain. One school holds that they are related to Iranian (Persian) tribes living around Lake Van in southeastern Turkey 3,000 years ago.The ancient Kurdish city of Hasankeyf on the Tigris River is currently threatened by a huge dam that will destroy hundreds of archaeological sites and a great deal of valuable wildlife, especially, bird habitat. It is wi...
?Immigration?: Assimilation, Secession, Or Disintegration?
2006-12-17 19:10:02
It is rare that I would pick up my keyboard upon reading something from a fellow contributor here at GTL. However, my good friend Mathew O’Keefe in his article ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LEAD TO TALK OF SECESSION-NY TIMES prompts some thoughts that I would like to respectfully share. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the nation of France to celebrate the American Centennial in 1876. It is not a part of our constitution nor is it any form of law. The wording on the statue, oft-quoted, is in English also, if I may be so bold. There are many issues involved here, and condensing it to “illegal immigration” both glosses over something and yet is revealing. What is glossed over is the fact that laws do exist; federal laws. They have very strict guidelines for immigrating to the U.S.; that is, if you obey the law. They are a pain in the butt; are unfair and cumbersome. They place a burden on human beings trying to make a better life or live normally with an America...
Illegal Immigration Leads to Talk of Secession ? NY Times
2006-12-17 19:10:02
This was selected as a front page Featured Post at MemeOrandum FARMINGVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 14 ? Assuming a new name has often been part of the immigration experience. Now this Long Island hamlet, bruised for a decade by its reputation as a place where illegal immigrant day laborers crowd into rooming houses, is considering a name change of its own. Farmingville, or at least the more affluent half of it, where few if any of the new immigrants live, would have itself be known instead as the village of Oak Hills. -NY Times Illegal immigration touches every city in America and frankly I have to say that sometimes it can get ugly in rural towns in America everywhere. In one aspect of the argument I can understand the frustration of property owners when their town is over run with illegal immigrants but I get pissed off when those same people are hiring illegal aliens to cut their lawns and clean their houses. That is what is happening in Farmingville and the biggest supporter of seces...
