2008-06-02 17:14:00 I have decided that it is about time I step back and focus on what is really important instead of building a life in a virtual world. Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my SL family and thanks to my great investments this 'game' is now paying me an average of USD$ 350 a month whether I'm on it or not. Unfortunately I have become such a huge SL addict that my RL business and personal relationships have started to suffer due to me spending more time and energy on my virtual second life then I do to progress in my real life, so I have decided that it is time for change! There has also been a few other things that have sparked my wanting to leave SL, these include big politics and drama in my virtual family as well as SL relationships and partnerships bringing more sorrow then joy. 2007-11-09 15:39:00 There’s an interesting article in this week’s Business in Vancouver about Second Life and its real life tax implications: “Taxing Events in your business Second Life”. Beware any foolhardy Second Life entrepreneur who thinks that making money in the virtual world is free: the tax man may be watching. The bottom line is that earnings your avatar makes are tax deductible just like earnings in the real world and should be recorded as such. (FYI the the Linden $ is currently trading at $.003 Canadian and holding its own better than the US dollar is these days!). The article suggests having 2 avatars - one for personal pleasure (whatever that maybe) and another if you intend to do business in SL. By doing so you can easily track spending and income for tax purposes. In that previous post, I mentioned the example of Comb v PayPal (US District Court of San Jose), in which the Court find the agreement unenforceable.Recently, in the case of Marc Bragg v Linden, the Court also finds Secondlife's wraps agreement unenforceable:Linden presents the TOS on a take-it-or-leave-it basis. A potential participant can either click “assent†to the TOS, and then gain entrance to Second Life’s virtual world, or refuse assent and be denied access. Linden also clearly has superior bargaining strength over Bragg.
