Journalists in Ahmedabad, Surat and other cities have been protesting since Mathur filed a series of sedition charges and defamation for articles that appeared in the newspaper about his ability to guarantee safety of residents in the light of serious terror threats. On Wednesday, the Ahmedabad high court also admitted a plea by TOI for quashing the charges. Raja Petra claims trial for sedition: Chooses jail over bail

He was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948. Nine paragraphs in his article titled "Let’s send the Altantuya murderers to hell" were found to be seditious. The article was posted on his website on April 25. The court set his bail at RM5,000. Raja Petra did not post bail.
