Minimizing Income Tax Liability Includes Cost Segregation!
2008-01-30 13:48:00 Cost Segregation is an IRS endorsed tax strategy that is simple and easy to understand. The purpose in having a Cost Segregation Study performed is to allow owners to depreciate their commercial property in a manner that is different from the standard method of accounting, which is 39 years. Let’s face it, if the owner were a 60-year-old property owner, how much depreciation on the property would

Thoughts on MLK Day, Segregation and Long-Term Care in America
2008-01-21 18:44:00 There are days when you pause and think about how far America has come and at the same time how far we still have to go. Today - when we honor Martin Luther King, Jr. - is one of those days. It’s hard to believe, but it wasn’t too long ago, where you wouldn’t have whites and ...

Study finds racial segregation in nursing homes - Campus News
2007-09-27 14:15:00 A study co-authored by Professor of Community Health Vincent Mor found evidence of widespread racial segregation among U.S. nursing homes and a correlation between segregation and disparities in quality of care, particularly for blacks.Published in the latest issue of Health Affairs, the study found segregation was most acute in Midwest nursing home facilities and generally reflected patterns of residential segregation. Mor, chair of the community health department, served as the study's principal investigator."This study is one of the first to draw from inter-facility databases of resident information to address questions of disparity of care between nursing homes in a given metropolitan area," Mor said. "Before 1999, when these data were computerized, it was difficult to study questions relating to quality of care beyond an intra-facility level."Read more......Study finds racial segregation in nursing homes - Campus News: "Study finds racial segregation in nursing homes"
Segregation in Sixty-Seven
2007-09-17 22:44:00 Segregation in Sixty-SevenBy Karen Cole PeraltaWord count: 1000When things were religiously, sexually and racially segregated, to the point of all obscurity, and nothing was real, nothing was right, and the world was upside down - I was not unhappy, because it matched my real mood at the time: overly boisterous and underly depressed. I only wanted to be a typical kid and have fun, but with segregation on, what was “typical?”I was once at a school where, weirdly enough, racial segregation seemed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread to the kids who were involved. Because the black Negro girls had total control over our entire environment, and all of the boys were in their own section of the playground. The black girls were somehow buried deep within the spread out zone map of an egalitarian war. They introduced me to the playground by being in the very first section of it. I found out from them that they were superior, and there was no way I could keep up with them.I was th...
Public School Racial Segregation Increasing - Must Change This
2007-09-04 20:11:00 This is not the direction America should go in. We must go back to desegregation as a policy and stick with it. It's the best combatant to racism, which is a mental illness. ATLANTA (Reuters) - Public schools in the United States are becoming more racially segregated and the trend is likely to accelerate because of a Supreme Court decision in June, according to report published on Wednesday. The rise in segregation threatens the quality of education received by non-white students, who now make up 43 percent of the total U.S. student body, said the report by the Civil Rights Project of the University of California in Los Angeles. Many segregated schools struggle to attract highly qualified teachers and administrators, do not prepare students well for college and fail to graduate more than half their students. In its June ruling the Supreme Court forbade most existing voluntary local efforts to integrate schools in a decision favored by the Bush administration despite warnings fro...

Stirring the Flames of Race Baiting Over School Segregation

The "Choice" In Segregation
2007-06-29 20:43:00 As noted here, the Supreme Court basically ripped the heart out of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling yesterday by telling the cities of Louisville and Seattle that they cannot take even ?modest? steps, according to the Times, in applying a race-based solution to school desegregation.I think it?s also important to note the following in this Times editorial?Chief Justice Roberts, who assured the Senate at his confirmation hearings that he respected precedent, and Brown in particular, eagerly set these precedents aside. The right wing of the court also tossed aside two other principles they claim to hold dear. Their campaign for ?federalism,? or scaling back federal power so states and localities have more authority, argued for upholding the Seattle and Louisville, Ky., programs. So did their supposed opposition to ?judicial activism.? This decision is the height of activism: federal judges relying on the Constitution to tell elected local officials what to do.This post b...

New Labour Ruth Kelly 'faith schools' play no part in segregation?
2007-04-10 19:44:00 Messianic Ruth Kelly - where does she live..did you see her enquiry into cohesion that is dangerous, counterproductive and blinkeredThe enquiry set up by Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly aimed at finding ways to challenge "barriers to integration and cohesion" has published an interim report that the National Secular Society has condemned as contradictory and counterproductive. The Commission for Integration and Cohesion's report suggests that "faith schools" play no part in segregation while at the same time admitting that school is probably the best way to break down barriers between communities. The report dismisses those who oppose faith schools on the grounds that they are divisive as "obsessed", and accuses them of using it as a 'red herring' yet, at the same time, an opinion poll commissioned to go with the report concludes that "Going to school or college together emerged as the top way of encouraging interaction." It cites as evidence 47% of people "identifying using share...

Raymond's Room: Ending the Segregation of People with Disabilities
2007-02-04 14:19:00 I was recently given the opportunity to review the unpublished galley proof of a new book scheduled for release by its publisher Training Resource Network on February 15, 2007. The book is entitled Raymond’s Room: Ending the Segregation of Adults with Disabilities. This publication was written by Dale DiLeo, a long-time colleague of mine and staunch advocate of supported employment. For those who don’t know DiLeo, he is a well-known speaker, trainer, consultant, and a publisher of books and a national newsletter called InfoLines. DiLeo is an outstanding and tireless advocate promoting the job placement and integration of adults with significant disabilities in the workforce and community. Once Raymond’s Room arrived, I thumbed through its chapter titles slowly. I knew immediately I was embarking on a journey with much familiar terrain. Take a close look at the topics DiLeo has chosen to address: Chapter One: Institutional Life Chapter Two: Labeling and the Disability Industria... |
