2009-10-30 16:00:00 There have been a lot of variations on the Segway recently but this one goes that extra mile by the looks of it, the machine appears to be a sort of crossover between a hovercraft and a Segway. Personally I cannot imagine too many of these being driven around the streets yet they do look like nice bit of fun. Features – Speed and braking are controlled through two levers located on the steering bar. A kill switch automatically deactivates the Air Board in case you unexpectedly jump off, and steering is accomplished by simply shifting your body weight (like a surfboard or skateboard). About a week ago in an effort to find something different to do, I was poking around Holiday inn's Ultimate Experiences section. I discovered Atlanta Segway tours. Decided to give it a try, this was my second time on a segway, rode one for less than 15 minutes at a company I was doing training for a few years back. Like Lisa (our tour guide) it is a lot like riding a bike. In less than 5 minutes I was up and going again. The video they make you watch ahead of time is a little unnerving, but in my opinion it is pretty easy and just takes a little common sense to ride. The weather was beautiful, and the price to play ($60 bucks) is well worth it. In truth it really could not have been a bad experience seeing as I had the best company in the world to enjoy this with ;-) I will put up a few pictures I snapped later, I am off to bed - work in the morning.

While the Segway's usefulness as a transportation device is often scrutinized, the zero-emissions status of the self-balancing little machine is not up for debate. Now, the Segway i2 even comes painted in the right color: green. Specifically, the chosen hue is known as "Metallic Sage." Apparently, just calling it green doesn't do the new shade justice, as Segway remarks that the color "has a goldish finish with hues of green and a metallic underbody that grabs changing light." While the Segway only has to balance in one direction, the Snook would go all the way ... kinda like a unicycle rider. We can see no real point to this concept, other than to look cool, but it still managed to pick up the win at the Michelin Design Challenge at the Detroit Auto Show. In all reality, assuming this thing were electric, it would eat up lots of juice just staying upright. If the entire goal were to ease congestion, perhaps an idea like this would have more merit.
