Justice Thomas and the Senate Judiciary Committee
2008-03-14 14:28:00 By Alan GableIt is rare that a biographical memoir type book touches me. These reads are always interesting but they never go deep enough to draw out any type of real life change. Clarence Thomas's "My Grandfather's Son" strays from this trend. I've always liked Justice Thomas because he is a conservative and thinks for himself (a trait I find incredibly admirable and woefully rare) and I never thought he got a fair shake with that whole Anita Hill thing. Her accusations were obvious fabrications unsubstantiated by anything that could be considered truthful. She was a puppet. I digress.Thomas brings his reader through his upbringing in rural Georgia, through his times at Yale Law School and finishes with the "hi-tech lynching" known as Senate confirmation. Unlike me, the guy had to fight for everything he's ever had and the disdain shown to him at his confirmation by "white liberal senators" was horrifying. Things like that shouldn't happen in America. Terrible things ...

?Justice? Department Investigates Gonzales Meeting with Former Aide
2007-06-15 17:47:00 Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Heckeva job Gonzo If you thought things with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales could not get any stranger, guess again. On Thursday, June 14, 2007, the Justice Department announced that they were going to investigate themselves (again) to determine if a meeting between Gonzales and former aide Monica Goodling was meant to influence her testimony before Congress. Goodling and Gonzales reportedly met in mid-March and Gonzales asked about what had happened in the months prior to the firing of the 8 U.S. attorneys. Goodling said that the topic made her, ?a little uncomfortable. I didn't know that it was maybe appropriate for us to talk about that at that point, and so I just didn't. As far as I can remember, I just didn't respond,? Goodling said. At this point Goodling must have just stared at her boss (the Attorney General of the United States) or looked blankly at the wall and pretended she did not hear anything. Or maybe Gonz...
Statement of Dennis Fritz U.S. SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE JUNE 12, 2000
2007-02-22 03:59:00 STATEMENT OF DENNIS FRITZ U.S. SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEEJUNE 12, 2000 Good morning Chairman Hatch, Senator Leahy, and other Members of the Committee. My name is Dennis Fritz. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and I am here today with my mother, Mrs. Wanda Fritz. It is a great honor and privilege to be here on behalf of all other wrongfully convicted people around the country who are suffering unjustly for crimes that they did not commit. In May of 1987, I was arrested for a rape and murder that I neither committed, nor had any knowledge of whatsoever. I was arrested five years after the crime occurred, and from that day forward everything went wrong throughout the entire judicial process.I spent the next twelve years serving a life sentence until I was finally able to prove my innocence, for which my thanks go to Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld for their endless efforts on my behalf. My co-defendant, Ron Williamson, was also wrongfully convicted of the same crime and he was sentenced to ... |
