Did you know that all Pixar films include a list of Production Babies in the credits? I didn't either, until Nancy Friedman filled me in. (Thanks, Nancy!) According to The Globe and Mail, Production Babies are those born to anyone at Pixar "in the year before [a] film comes out." For ...
Sequoia: Legendary fund reopens
2008-05-21 07:00:00
“There are only a few mutual funds that could truly be deemed legendary; Sequoia Fund (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=sequx) (SEQUX (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=sequx)) is one of them,” states long-standing mutual fund guru Walter Frank (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2019).In- his MoneyLetter (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2019) he explains, “Sequoia was started in 1970 by Bill Ruane, stockbroker to Warren Buffett. Closed to new investors since 1982, this famed value has reopened.”“In 1970, Warren Buffett was liquidating a partnership and advised his clients to invest in Sequoia. Ruane invested in the same value manner as Benjamin Graham and Buffett. “Over it’s 38-year history, the fund has generally outperformed the broader market. We calculate that a $1,000 investing in Sequoia in 1970 would be worth a little more than $200,000 today, more than three times the retu...
Wolverines Extinct in Sequoia - Kings Canyon?
2008-05-10 12:37:00
Updated May 11:A new study using baited trap stations, done during winter, failed to find any California wolverines in either Sequoia or Kings Canyon National Parks in the southern Sierra Nevada. However, in 1980, definite wolverine tracks were seen at two locales in Kings Canyon National Park by trained wildlife biologists. However, tracks always count as "unverified". But not to me.I say that at least 28 years ago, wolverines were present in Kings Canyon National Park. Wolverine sightings in California do tend to be concentrated in Kings Canyon and Sequoia Parks. This area was long held to be the last stronghold of the wolverine in California. Many detailed sightings were made from 1900-1930 in Sequoia National Park. In one, a wolverine chased two adult bears away from a horse carcass.A map of historical wolverine sightings in Kings Canyon - Sequoia Parks. As you can see, sightings were much more common from 1920-1955 or so and have dropped off quite a bit ever since. Click to vi...

Sequoia voting machines can?t do simple addition
2008-03-20 00:03:00
Network Security Blog – It?s no secret that I?ve never been a big fan of electronic voting machines. The fact that none of the manufacturers have been anything approaching transparent in how these machines can be audited and verified is just one of the many issues with them. Now it appears that the Sequaia machines that were ... read more

Toyota to reduce Tundra and Sequoia output
2008-03-14 20:27:00
Toyota to reduce Tundra and Sequoia output Due to slow sales, Toyota will scale back on building its Tundra pickup trucks and Sequoia SUVs at its Princeton, IN and San Antonio, TX manufacturing plants. The slow-down will start in the spring but will not result in any lay offs at either plant, said Toyota?s spokesperson Mike Goss. Goss hasn?t indicated how many fewer trucks Toyota will now make, but the uncommon move will result in the automaker slowing down its production cycle, building less than the 25,000 Tundras a month the San Antonio plant is capable of, according to Automotive News. Last month, Toyota sold only 14,400 Tundras, while light-truck sales throughout the U.S. are down by 103,558 units in the first two months of 2008 compared to the same time period last year, likely due to higher has prices and the slowing economy. The San Antonio plant was opened late in 2006 to compete with rivals Ford, GM and Dodge in the full-size pick-up truck market.
2008 Toyata Sequoia

Gigantor. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia arrives humongously revised from the already beefy first-generation. The Timberland Mica (Metallic Green) example that Toyota lent us for a week definitely deserves whatever size-related superlatives you can dream up. It’s big, it’s powerful, it doesn’t sip fuel. There is a need and a market for this type of ...

Who's that you ask? Why, it's Tara Reid! She's looking 67! I guess that's her latest disguise, and fashion trends! You know with all this paparazzi stalking every celebrity, she thought: oh, why don't i disguise as a granny! Yeah that way no one will notice my f***ed up face... Oh i can't stand watchin...

Tree the fourth: Sequoia sempervirens - Californian Redwood Tree
2007-08-25 19:09:00
It's recommended as an indoor tree by the Montreal Botanical Garden. Canadians don't lie. Right? Californian Redwoods are the tallest living trees on earth. Just the thought of growing one of these as a bonsai is fascinating! The others have been in the press now for a week and there's still no sign of shooting. I know it's still probably too soon but I got these Redwood seeds today to keep hope alive. They don't require any stratification so once I soaked them I put them straight into the hot press and turned the heat on! When I was reading about them on the web I came across an unpleasant fact. Unpleasant to me who is trying to grow trees from seeds anyway. Californian Redwoods can produce up to six million seeds a year but less than 5% of these germinate. Of those that do germinate only a few survive and grow into seedlings. Odds like this are a little discouraging to me since I probably only have three or four seeds in my little pot. If it wasn?t because I was looking for a good radiator for my car, I would not have chanced upon a snippet about what?s happening to the Japanese car maker Toyota. Edmunds.com released news about how they spotted the new 2008 Toyota Sequoia on the test road displaying its new looks and designs. The new car according to the release was heavily decorated with camouflage accents. The new car was also given a new independent rear suspension that replaces the current set-up of the Sequoia vehicle which is currently still in production. The new suspension given to the new 2008 Sequoia promises a better performance. Toyota also gave it new interior trimmings and a usable third row seats for cargo as well as passengers. The video also shows the functional declinable rear sear power folding 60/40-split bench. The new vehicle is somehow closer to an adaptive cruise patrol. The looks were enhanced by a sensor on the huge front bumper on an SUV. The spoiler is added as well. The new Sequoia will ...
