Palawan?s Underground River As One Of The Seven Wonders Of Nature?
2009-08-14 11:11:00
I’ve really found it hard to stomach the idea that mere humans who have been only around for a couple of million years – or a few thousand years if you’re a creationist *snicker* — would have the gall to rank geographical features of the Earth that have been progressively evolving and changing through more ...

Source: - I’ve watched the documentary program of GMA 7 entitled “SISID” and I was really amazed on the underwater sceneries that they have featured there. It’s really uplifting to know that amidst the abuse of natural resources here in the Philippines, although not every part of it in general, there are still small oasis of paradise which we can really be proud of. In fact, three of our small paradise were nominated to be part of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. And you know what? As of the time I published this article, these three were on the top 15 of the most voted nominees, with the Tubbataha Reef leading at the 8th spot, followed by the Chocolate Hills at number 9 and Puerto Prinsesa Subterranean River National Park at the 15th place. The Poll for the New Seven Wonders of Nature is currently ongoing, and a single vote can really make a difference. Vote for Tubbataha in New Seven Wonders
2008-04-28 08:48:00
If you haven't heard about it yet, our very own Tubbataha Reef is in the running to be considered as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. As of this posting, it's in eight place, just behind the Cocos Island in Costa Rica. Surprisingly it is well ahead of more well-known sites such as the Grand Canyon and Australia's Great Barrier Reef.I think Tubbataha deserves to be on that list so vote for it. Following Tubbataha are other sites I voted for. I chose them mostly on account of their beauty, evolutionary significance and sheer scale. Let's see how many birds I hit come 2009 when the final list is announced.Tubbataha Reef is an atoll coral reef in the Sulu Sea that belongs to the Philippines. It is a marine sanctuary protected as Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park. The reef is composed of two atolls, North and South Reefs. Each reef has a single small islet that protrudes from the water. The atolls are separated by a deep channel 8 kilometers wide. Over one thousand species, i...

digg_url = ''; Today I want to write about some of the biggest wonders on the Linux world, this are my thoughts, and they may differ from yours, and they could even change in my mind after reading what you think the 7 Linux world Wonders should be, so please read this post, and the comment about it. The Linux kernel The Linux Kernel is Linux itself for lots of people, without it, Linux would have never exists, it is the core of the Linux Operating System, (GNU Linux). We have it thanks to Linus Torvalds who posted at comp.os.minix I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing since April, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons) among other things). I've currently ported bash(1.08) a...

Seven Wonders of the World: Ancient and New Since the ancient Greeks named the Seven Wonders of World more than 2 millennia ago, with the exception of the Pyramids, they are all gone. People across the globe have enjoyed debating which are currently the most remarkable of Earth's many spectacular sites. Bernard Weber set out to name the "New 7 Wonders of the World" in 1999. Almost 200 sites around the world were selected, and the list was then narrowed to 21. One of these, the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the sole original Wonder of the Ancient World to survive, was named an honorary wonder. Seven more of the remaining 20 were chosen by worldwide vote, via internet and phone polling, and announced on July 7, 2007 These images, presented in high resolution, represent those choices and some additional views of other spectacular sites. Asymmetric Opinion on the New Seven Wonders of the World
2007-07-14 10:49:00
The American Idol-style selection process has its detractors: A paragraph from the press release reads "There is no comparison between Mr. Weber?s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on UNESCO?s World Heritage List. The list of the 7 New Wonders of the World will be the result of a private undertaking, reflecting only the opinions of those with access to the internet and not the entire world. This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by this public."[4] Their opinion's not ridiculous as orchestrated campaigns like those in Brazil skew the results. However, the protestation of UNESCO is uncharitable at best and self-serving and elitist at worst. Why didn't they just thank the group for bringing attention to man's past glories? Whatever. It makes sense to choose new ones. I mean, nobody's ever seen any of the old ones except for the Pyramid a...

so now we know the new seven wonders…
2007-07-09 22:12:00
…and I must admit I agree with this post: do we really care? I think the results are interesting but not particularly surprising. I’ve been to one (Rome) , and while I have an interest in the others, this designation isn’t going to make me any more or less likely to visit.  I’m not sure I could rank the others in terms of where I’m more likely to go than others… I voted for Kiyomizdera in Kyoto because it’s one of my favourite places in Japan, if not the world, but I’m not surprised it didn’t win. Of course I completely forgot about the announcement: I spent 7/7/7 at Yankee Stadium. I do think UNESCO’s comments are interesting: but they make their own rankings and designations as well. Of course theirs are more valid in their own eyes but really, any list is subjective. I think Hawass’ comments are sad: “This contest will not detract from the value of the pyramids, which is the only real wonde...
