El disconflicto: "Sixes And Sevens" (Adam Green)

2008-04-07 09:09:00 South Africa's Sevens rugby team brought an end to New Zealand's season-long domination of the IRB World Sevens Series on Sunday when Neil Powell's side beat the Kiwis 15-7 to clinch the Adelaide Sevens.
Adelaide Sevens:Eagles Fall To Pumas; Springboks Stun Kiwis
2008-04-06 22:30:00 Well I stayed up until 4am to watch the United States take on Argentina in the Adelaide Sevens Bowl Final and despite the fact that I’m barely functioning 12 hours later, it was well worth it. The Pumas beat the Eagles 26-21. Argentina was up 19-7 at the half, but the American stormed back and took ...

Adelaide Sevens: USA Eagles Reach Bowl Finals!
2008-04-06 08:14:00 The Eagles continue to soar on Day 2, but before I get to that, let me take a moment to add some more info regarding the U.S. victory over England in the Bowl Quarterfinals. The game ended 19-19, which meant “sudden death” overtime. The Eagles are not strangers to sudden death, as they lost to France ...

Adelaide Sevens: Cup Quarterfinal Results
2008-04-06 06:26:00 I’m back with another Adelaide Sevens update. Looks like New Zealand barely survived their quarterfinal match versus Tonga, winning 19-14. This was the second “close call” for the Kiwis during the Adelaide Sevens. It will be interesting to see if anyone can step up and knock them off their throne. Joining New Zealand in the Cup ...

2008-04-05 17:09:00 The United States would avoid the sweep in Day 1 of the Adelaide Sevens Tournament in Australia. SA lose in Hong Kong Sevens final
2008-03-31 12:11:00 South Africa's Sevens rugby team, after a good run of results, were stopped by New Zealand's all-conquering team in the final of the Hong Kong Sevens on Sunday, going down 26-12 in the final.

Hong Kong Sevens: Clever Leads USA To Victory
2008-03-28 15:05:00 Todd Clever helped the USA Eagles jump out quickly versus Tunisia early today, but rather than coasting to an easy victory, Tunisia rallied before falling to the Americans 26-21 in the closest Day 1 match. The U.S. were pretty heavy favorites against Tunisia and just barely won. This proves that you can’t take anyone lightly when it comes to Sevens Rugby. But, a win is a win, so the U.S. will head into their Day 2 fixtures undefeated. The only “shocker” during Day 1 of the Men’s Tournament was France, who have struggled in the IRB Sevens World Series this year, knocked off Tonga 21-7. Canada nearly pulled off an upset today, as they got up early on England only for the Brits to stage a comeback and double up Canada 24-12. Hong Kong Sevens: Day 1 Re-Cap
2008-03-28 13:58:00 The 2008 Hong Kong Sevens began yesterday with the Women’s competition and Day 1 of the Men’s Tournament began early this morning. The Lady Eagles were very impressive yesterday, going 3-0 and earning a spot in the semifinals today versus France. The U.S. defeated Netherlands 36-7, Hong Kong 33-7 & Arabian Gulf 45-7. “Day one at the Hong Kong tournament was a success for us. We worked on our game on both offense and defense, which showed well in scores,” USA Women’s Sevens Coach Julie McCoy said. “Tomorrow’s task is convincing the players to continue to play team ball.” Good luck to the ladies today as they hope to advance to the finals. As for the Men, the United States will take to the pitch in the final match of Day 1 later this morning, taking on Tunisia. The Eagles were placed in Pool A New Zealand, Chinese Taipei & of course, Tunisia. The U.S. will take on Chinese Taipei tomorrow and will once again close out the day’s competition, ta...

USA Sevens: *Update* Setanta To Offer Day 1 Coverage
2008-02-08 20:01:00 Good news for those of you who had planned on following the USA Sevens Day 1 coverage online. If you subscribe to Setanta Sports, you will not only get over 8 hours of live Day 2 broadcasting, but Setanta has announced 2 hours of live broadcasting on Day 1. I’m pretty happy to hear this. I was going to listen to the matches online but now I can watch it, which of course is much better. I mean hell, this isn’t 1928. The coverage will include USA’s matches versus England & Mexico. Perfect. I feel the U.S. will lose to South Africa anyways so no biggie if I miss that one. By the way, I’m not going to provide “Live Blogging” this weekend because part of the trade off for watching so much rugby this weekend is to allow my wife to dink around online. I will post a recap Saturday & Sunday night. GO EAGLES!

USA Sevens: Takudzwa Ngwenya To Join Squad In San Diego
2008-02-07 06:06:00 Great news for the USA Eagles a head of the USA Sevens Tournament this weekend in San Diego. USA superstar winger Takudzwa Ngwenya has been granted permission from his club (Biarritz) to join the Eagles this weekend. This will provide a huge boost for the Eagles. The speedster is best known for schooling Bryan Habana at the 2007 Rugby World Cup and scored a couple of key tries at the South Africa Sevens back in December, which was a key to the U.S. advancing to the quarterfinals in that tournament. Takudzwa felt it was important to be part of the biggest international rugby event to be held on U.S. soil. “I wanted to be here because it’s our home event and we’re trying to show the American public that rugby’s a good sport and we want to do that here at home,” said Ngwenya. “We have a good shot, a good team so our goal is to beat South Africa, beat England [in the pools on day one], get some points, reach the Cup quarterfinals and see what happens...

Unlucky sevens
2007-07-07 02:27:00 Today is 7/7/07, but sevens weren’t very lucky for the Mets Friday night in Houston. Mike Pelfrey fell to 0-7 on the year despite a decent performance, though he did give up four earned runs in six innings. Still, if Pelfrey had gotten the run support John Maine got the night before, he might have come out a winner. Instead, Pelfrey was unlucky enough to go up against a complete-game shutout from Wandy Rodriguez. And the Mets’ No. 7, Jose Reyes, certainly didn’t bring any luck to the team as he usually does when he failed to run out a grounder down the third-base line in the eighth inning. I wonder if Reyes thought he was the victim of bad luck - that the ball didn’t go foul, or that Willie Randolph responded by taking Reyes out of the game. During his postgame apology, Reyes said he hoped it wouldn’t happen again. Jose, we all hope it doesn’t happen again, and if you’re not certain if this is your fault that you didn’t run on contact,...
