THE 30 Million Pound Match Report: Charlton 1 - 1 Sheffield Utd
2007-04-22 18:52:00 Well, not literally the £30 Million match, but dubbed by the media and press, Charlton entered this huge 6pointer knowing it was a must win affair. Most fans knew that we had to win, although it wouldn't be too bad with a loss/draw, a win would ease the pressure of the three tough upcoming fixtures. The Club had gone a long way to lift the atmosphere by giving out free clappers and also arranging Bjorn Again as pre match entertainment. Add that with the usual drumming and flag, the atmosphere should be immense.Charlton started the first half well and seemed to be egged on by the 'Up-For-It' crowd. Unfortunately the first half ended up being a bit dull, so half time was welcome relief.Once again Charlton started well in the second, at at '59, The Elk hit a shot towards the United goal, it deflected against one of their defenders and the net bulged. I havent seen the crowd go so crazy in such a long time. It was amazing! Then the whole stadium stood while singing "Stand Up, If You'...

Result: Sheffield Utd 1 - 1 Liverpool
2006-08-20 19:27:03 No live blogging for the second half here on LiverpoolAccess.com but the game has finished 1-1 with Robbie Fowler securing a point for the Reds from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaing. The result leaves Liverpool still failing to win their opening season game under Rafa Benitez and provides a frustrating start to the campaign, the side having been expected to take all three points. The first half of play was ok from Liverpool, limited in attacking chances though John Arne Riise and Craig Bellamy both went close in the opening half of the game. Riise was removed from play through injury (twisted ankle) as was Jamie Carragher (twisted ankle) both just after the half hour mark with Danny Agger and Mark Gonzalez coming into the fold but neither introduction could spur anything productive as the clock edged towards half time with the scores level at 0-0 on the break. Rob Hulse broke the deadlock for Sheffield United with under two minutes gone in the second half, Hulse finding hims...

Live: Sheffield UTD 1 - 0 Liverpool
2006-08-20 19:27:03 Liverpool a goal down almost as soon as the second half kicks off, Rob Hulse finding himself a free header in the box to nod past Pepe Reina and put The Blades ahead on home soil. Rough justice for Liverpool who are missing Riise and Carragher through first half injury (Mark Gonzalez and Danny Agger on in their place). 1-0 Sheffield Utd with the whole half to play.

2006-08-20 19:27:03 Half time at Brammall Lane and its still scoreless with Liverpool losing both John Arne Riise and Jamie Carragher in the first 33 minutes to injury, both players twisting their ankles, Riise twisting his going close to scoring midway through the half. No further subs at half time, chances few and far between for Liverpool with Riise and Bellamy having the best of Liverpool’s chances.

Preview: Sheffield Utd vs Liverpool
2006-08-20 19:27:03 Liverpool get their 06/07 Premier League campaign kicked off at Brammal Lane on Saturday lunchtime (with the game going out on Sky) which should be a special occasion for The Blades after a 12 year exodus from top-flight football. While Rafa Benitez returns to the sidelines after letting Gary Ablett take the reigns for the midweek friendly against Lincoln City (with Liverpool winning 2-1), Neil Warnock will have to watch the game from the stands as he must sit out the first six games of the season courtesy of an FA touchline ban. The last time the sides met in the league back in 1993 the game played out a goalless draw and on the form of recent performances from Liverpool I would highly think that Saturday’s game will not produce the same result. Getting off to a winning start to the season means everything and with a good win against Chelsea with an understrength starting eleven, coupled with our great coups of the summer transfer market including the arrival of Craig Bellamy...
