2008-02-04 00:28:00 I've heard the first great album of 2008 and, although it isn't by a classic era artist, it does revolve around one.Shelby Lynne' s recording career started in 1989 and has gone through numerous changes over the years, starting in country and eventually branching out into western swing, jazz and roots rock. She won the CMA's Horizon Award in 1991, but it wasn't until 2000 that she won the Grammy for Best New Artist, after recording for eleven years and releasing six albums.Her latest, Just a Little Lovin', branches out into the world of Dusty Springfield, but it's in no way a tribute album. Instead, Lynne has chosen to record nine of Springfield's songs in a style that could best be described as sultry piano bar with a little blues thrown in for good measure.While a Springfield aficionado might be horrified by the thought, it is actually a beautiful reinterpretation of the late-singer's music.
