UFC 84 Ill Will Results… BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Wanderlei Silva, Keith Jard
2008-05-27 18:55:00
UFC 84 Ill Will Results.. BJ Penn is now the champ… Wanderlei shows everyone why he’s called the Axe Murderer. B.J. Penn defeated Sean Sherk via TKO (referee’s decision) at 5:00 of Round 3 This was a good fight. BJ and Sean went toe to toe for three rounds. Only a few attempts to shoot were made, however, the fight never went to the mat. BJ had the better of the stand up fight, his pin point accuracy delivered continual jabs to the cheeks of Sean Sherk. Sherk attempted to retaliate with heavy punches, but never seemed to land “that” effective punch. At the end of the third, BJ Penn finished Sean with an amazing knee to Sean’s dome. Wanderlei Silva whoops Keith Jardine via KO at 0:36 of Round 1 Don’t even know what to say here… Wanderlei made Keith look like a total amateur. Wanderlei landed KO punches over and over leaving Keith on the mat, eyes rolled back unable to respond long that he still wasn’t alert during the int...

Betting Odds - UFC 84, BJ Penn vs Sean Sherk, Wanderlei Silva vs Keith Jard
2008-05-12 22:37:00
BetUS has the UFC 84 betting odds posted to their site.  BJ Penn is favored over Sean Sherk, -230 to +180 on Sean Sherk.  Wanderlei Silva is favored over Keith Jardine, -185 to +145 and Lyoto Machida is favored over Tito Ortiz! - 220 to +175 on Tito…  My bet for the night… I wouldn’t mind dropped a hundred down on Tito and possibly winning $220, seems like a deal worth while… I think Machida is an excellent favor, but I’d take the risk going with Tito. If you’re interested in laying down some cashola, check out all of the betting lines here.

UFC 84 Sean Sherk vs BJ Penn Betting Odds and Analysis
2008-05-06 00:57:00
BJ Penn is the shit, really! and Sean Sherk....well in my opinion he isn't! The matchup definitely makes this fight. BJ has accumulated a retarded amount of skill and now he's decided to start training some of that cardio stuff. BJ Penn in shape has more options to win a fight than any one else in the game (maybe Silva) it's that simple. At 155 BJ has a size advantage and in terms of leverage and mobility a strength advantage as well in this fight, You may think whatever, but whatch his fights with muscle strong guys like Steveson and Hughes and even back in the day against Machida and you'll see how much of an advatage he can have.Picure Sherk's last fight...I know that's a long time, but can you really picture Sherk wrestling BJ down and maintianing his lay'n'pray for 5 rounds??? Because that's his only option for a win. Sherk's reach is so ridiculously short the only way he's ever scored a real TKO was with ground and pound. It takes the crazy athletasism of a GSP to g...
George St. Pierre vs. Sean Sherk (UFC)
2008-05-05 09:37:00
George "Rush" St. Pierre vs. Sean "The Muscle Shark" SherkMuscle Shark x Rushby doctorcolosus7Why am I putting up this fight?Because I believe that BJ Penn has Sherk's number as long as he initiates the takedowns. Sherk is just like a more compact and weaker version of Matt Hughes, and as we know, Penn can hold his own against Hughes. Like most wrestlers, Sherk is definitely weakest on his back, and as this fight as well as the GSP vs. Matt Hughes fight shows, these incredibly talented and strong wrestlers as taken completely out of their element when someone beats them to the takedown.I'm not saying that Sherk holds no chance against Penn, because that is definitely not the case- Sherk is definitely one of the cardio beasts out there (insert steroid jokes here)- Will BJ's cardio be able to stand against Sherk's? Will BJ be able to take down Sherk/avoid Sherk's takedowns? Will "Baby Hughes" be able to land on top and stall out to a decision? Will BJ break Sherk's nose like GSP...

Shogun, Sherk Make UFC 84 Card Great
2008-01-10 20:27:00
According to different reports by MMAJunkie.com, both Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Sean Sherk have been added to a Montreal event in April. This same event is expected to host the title unification match between Georges St. Pierre and Matt Serra.Shogun will be returning from his disappointing submission loss to Forrest Griffin and attempting to gain his first win inside the Octagon. Had Shogun won his fight at UFC 76, he would have been afforded an immediate title shot against Champion Quinton Jackson. Now, Shogun finds himself near the middle of a strong light heavyweight division and badly needing a win.Even more urgent is the plight of Sean Sherk, who was stripped of his belt after testing positive for Nandrolone following his UFC 73 win against Hermes Franca. He has been told that his first fight back will be for the title, so this UFC 84 match up should be against either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. Sherk needs to win to gain back both his title and his credibility.Georges St. P...
Sean Sherk Interview
2008-01-05 02:53:00
Writer Ben Zeidler recently caught up with Sean Sherk to discuss just about every aspect of the steroid controversy, his feelings on BJ Penn, and the Lay ?N Pray style he?s often criticized for. Here are the highlights of that interview. Originally conducted for MMA MadnessBen Zeidler: What?s the story with your title being stripped considering you?re eligible to return in January? It doesn?t make sense to me.Sean Sherk: You know, Dana basically said that he wants to stay consistent with what he has done in the past. In the past, if you did it or not, you got the belt stripped. He believes that I didn?t do it and I know that I didn?t do it, but the belt gets stripped. That?s just the way it is.BZ: Are you pleased with the announcement that you?ll get the winner of Penn-Stevenson?SS: I knew that already. As soon as they told me that they were taking it [the belt], they said my first fight back would be against the winner. To be honest with you, I still feel like I am champion and th...

Sean Sherk on BJ Penn: ?I think BJ Penn is a punk.?
2007-12-11 16:21:00
When former UFC Lightweight Champion, Sean Sherk tested positive for Nandrolone following his bout with Hermes Franca at UFC 73, BJ Penn made it verbally clear on a number occasions that he would not fight Sherk if Sherk?s suspension was upheld by the California State Athletic Commission. As we learned last week, Sherk?s suspension ...

Sherk Stripped of UFC Lightweight Title
2007-12-10 02:45:00
The word on the street is that Sean ?the Muscle Shark? Sherk has been stripped of his UFC Lightweight belt. Following his successful title defense over Hermes Franca at UFC 73, Sherk was suspended for 1 year by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for the banned substance Nandrolene. Earlier this ...
Sherk Stripped Of Title
2007-12-09 22:54:00
UFC officials have confirmed that now ex-champ Sherk has been stripped of his Lightweight title. This is in contrast to White's promise that Sherk would remain the champion due to the lackof professionalismwith which the investigation proceeded. The decision to strip Sherk is made even more puzzling by the fact that the suspension was to end in January, just days after the interim title was to be awarded to either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson. After his UFC 73 win over Hermes Franca, Sherk tested positive forNandrolone. Unlike the Nevada State Athletic Commission, California's doesn't reserve the right to overturn a fight's decision (in this case, a win by Sherk). The CSAC went on to suspend Sherk for a year, but after an appeal and many questions regarding the validity and court's proceedings, Sherk's suspension was reduced to six months. Since the suspension is retroactive to the Franca fight, Sherk is technically eligible to return to the Octagon in late January.Since the ...
Sean Sherk Keeps His UFC Lightweight Belt
2007-12-07 20:37:00
It was announced today by Yahoo Sports that Sean Sherk will keep his UFC lightweight title.  According to the short story, today “the UFC confirmed that Sherk remains the promotion’s 155-lb. titleholder.” So I guess this makes the Joe Stevenson / BJ Penn Interim title a worthless tag?  Hopefully the winner of the BJ vs Joe fight will get a title shot against Sean.
And Still Your UFC Lightweight Champion?Sean Sherk!!!
2007-12-07 16:53:00
That?s right Sean Sherk will not be stripped of his title and will remain the UFC Lightweight Champion. The Houston Chronicle?s Steve Sievert is reporting that UFC has decided to allow Sean Sherk to retain his title despite of having his suspension being upheld by the California State Athletic Commission. Shame on the UFC If this ...
Sherk Eligible To Fight In January
2007-12-04 22:44:00
According to information received from the CSAC, Sherk?s suspension has been reduced to six months, from one year. As is standard in suspensions, Sherk receives credit for time already served, which means he is eligible to return to mixed martial arts competition in January. (As reported by MMAJunkie.com)Sherk, who defended his title with a unanimous-decision victory over Hermes Franca in July, tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, during an event drug test. The event took place July 7 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and the California State Athletic Commission subsequently suspended Sherk one year and fined him $2,500.Sherks? original hearing was set for August. However, after securing the services of accomplished doping lawyer Howard Jacobs, Sherk was granted an extension for the appeal, which took place Oct. 31. However, key paperwork submitted by Jacobs was not distributed to commission members prior to the hearing, and the co...

Dana White to “Probably” Strip Sean Sherk of Title
2007-11-13 18:19:00
According to the Fight Network, “UFC president Dana White revealed today he will “probably” strip UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk of his title if his positive steroids test is not overturned by the California State Athletic Commission when it reconvenes in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 4.”  In the mean time, BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will face off at UFC 80 for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship title.  UFC 80 will take place on January 19, 2008, so there’s a good possibility “interim” will be converted into “The UFC Lightweight Championship”.  It will be interesting to see the results, possibly Sherk will be an example to up and coming fighters considering the possibility of using performance enhancing drugs.

White Backpedaling On Sherk? - 10 Nov 2007 04:27:56am
2007-11-10 05:27:00
By Brian Knapp Having gone on record saying he would not strip lightweight champion Sean Sherk of his title, even if the California State Athletic Commission upholds his positive test for suspected steroid use, UFC president Dana White seems to be in a subtle backpedal. The UFC announced last week that B.J. Penn would square off with Joe Stevenson for the interim lightweight crown at UFC 80 ?Rapid Fire? on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Newcastle, England. White said today he would support the CSAC?s final ruling. Sherk?s appeal hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Los Angeles. ?The belt can?t be in limbo for this long,? White told UFC.com. ?I?ve said since the beginning that I believe in Sean Sherk, but we have to support the athletic commission in whatever decision they make. As soon as Sean Sherk can put all of this behind him, he can get right back into the Octagon, and he will be given an immediate shot at the lightweight championship.? Sherk's Attorney Formally Protests Hearing Date - 09 Nov 2007 09:01:45pm
2007-11-09 22:01:00
By Loretta Hunt Howard Jacobs, the attorney representing UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk in his appeal of a California State Athletic Commission suspension for suspected steroid use, has formally protested the latest scheduled hearing date of Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Los Angeles. Sherk?s case has already been postponed twice. Jacobs said all parties involved, including commissioners and the state?s legal counsel ? Deputy Attorney General Karen Chappelle ? had agreed to reconvene for a Nov. 13 hearing, provided they could secure a room in which to conduct it. ?I seemingly can?t force them to give me an explanation as to why the deputy attorney general suddenly became unavailable [for Nov. 13] when she said she was available,? Jacobs said. ?I can?t get them to explain to me why there?s no one in the entire State Attorney General?s office who can handle the case or why ? if there was another matter that came up for Karen Chappelle ? she can?t postpone that matter, because she already ...
Sean Sherk Talks CSAC & Interim Title - 08 Nov 2007 06:19:45am
2007-11-08 07:19:00
By Damon Martin Since his fight on July 7 against Hermes Franca, Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder Sean Sherk has been sitting in limbo following a positive test result for performance enhancing drugs. He has twice been scheduled to have a hearing with the California State Athletic Commission to resolve the accusations and twice the commission has issued a continuance to a future date. ?It makes me real angry,? said Sherk about the appeal process with the CSAC. ?They had a lot of time to prepare for my case and they weren?t prepared and now I?m the one suffering for it. I?m the only one suffering in this whole situation. I mean, I?m sitting here and I feel kind of helpless. ?I?m in the hands of the California commission and I don?t know if they?re not taking this case as serious as they should or what the deal is, but it?s real, real frustrating for me.? While waiting for the final judgment on his case ? Sherk is currently slated to appear again in front of ...
Sherk Hearing Postponed - 08 Nov 2007 05:21:03am
2007-11-08 06:21:00
By Brian Knapp The California State Athletic Commission today confirmed the postponement of UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk?s Tuesday, Nov. 13 appeal hearing for a steroids-related suspension. CSAC associate governmental program analyst Bill Douglas cited scheduling conflicts as the reasons behind the delay. The hearing has not yet been rescheduled. ?Eleven different individuals need their schedule coordinated ? not an easy task,? Douglas said. The CSAC made a previous decision to delay a ruling on Sherk on Oct. 31 after commissioner Julio Ramirez expressed concern over a 17-page brief from Howard Jacobs, Sherk?s attorney. The brief, which included 20 exhibits, never reached the seven CSAC members charged with voting. Jacobs was provided with an acknowledgement of receipt by CSAC executive director Armando Garcia, Douglas and Karen Chappelle ? the deputy attorney general for the state of California. Sherk Not Stripped; Penn-Stevenson For Interim
2007-11-04 20:33:00
According to UFC President Dana White, Sean Sherk will not be stripped of his Lightweight title, but BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will have the opportunity to fight for an interim belt.Yahoo! Sports reported this:White had vowed to strip Sherk of the title, but said Friday that he no longer plans to do so."The way this whole thing has been handled has been a mess," White said.He said Penn and Stevenson, who said he learned on Tuesday that he and his wife will have another son, will fight for the interim title as the main event of UFC 80 in Newcastle, England, likely on Jan. 19.The winner of that bout would then presumably face Sherk once Sherk's status is defined by the commission.White said heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabricio Werdum would meet in the co-main on UFC 80.This is an excellent move by Dana White. It would have been a mistake to let an entire division become stagnant for a year simply because the President felt the appeal was not handled properly. Instead, White ha...
Sherk not stripped; Penn-Stevenson for interim title - 03 Nov 2007 12:12:00
2007-11-03 01:12:00
By Kevin Iole Sean Sherk is going to remain the UFC's lightweight champion, but B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson will fight for a lightweight belt at UFC 80 in January in Newcastle, England, UFC president Dana White said Friday. White said he's not going to strip Sherk of his lightweight championship because he is fed up with the California Athletic Commission's handling of Sherk's steroids case. Sherk tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone following his successful title defense on July 7 at UFC 73 in Sacramento, Calif., over Hermes Franca. The California Athletic Commission fined Sherk $2,500 and suspended him for a year. Sherk, though, denied taking steroids and appealed. His hearing was to have been on Wednesday, but it was postponed until Nov. 13 when members of the California commission realized they had not received the 17-page brief attorney Howard Jacobs had submitted on Sherk's behalf. White had vowed to strip Sherk of the title, but said Fr...
Frustration Mounts For Sherk - 01 Nov 2007 02:23:26pm
2007-11-01 15:23:00
By Tom Hamlin LOS ANGELES ? Any idea that Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Sean Sherk?s appeal would be an easily executed line item in the California State Athletic Commission?s agenda was dispelled Tuesday in a Los Angeles hearing room. On July 19, the CSAC suspended Sherk for one year and fined him $2,500 after he tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite, an anabolic agent. He had been charged to appear in front of the commission after filing an extension with the CSAC in early August. He enlisted Los Angeles-based lawyer Howard Jacobs, who has been the defense attorney in several high-profile doping cases, to defend him. Jacobs wasted no time in attacking the foundation of the claims made against Sherk. First on his list was the ?chain of custody? for the urine sample taken by the CSAC after the July 7 fight. Deputy Attorney General Karen Chappelle had established the commission?s procedural diligence in dealing with the sample as a primary piece of evide...
CSAC Verdicts: Sherk Postponed, Baroni Reduced, and Nakamura Extended
2007-11-01 04:29:00
The California State Athletic Commission has postponed its decision to appeal UFC Lightweight champ, Sean Sherk?s one year suspension and fine. The CSAC?s ruling has been extended because Sherk?s attorney, Howard Jacobs recently submitted new evidence, which has not been reviewed by all the commission members. Sherk is presently serving a one year ...
Sherk Decision Delayed - 01 Nov 2007 01:52:19am
2007-11-01 02:52:00
By Brian Knapp & Loretta Hunt CSAC Postpones Ruling on UFC Lightweight King Until Nov. 13 The California State Athletic Commission today delayed a decision regarding the steroid-related suspension and fine for UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk during a nearly four-hour-long hearing in Los Angeles. The fate of the 34-year-old Minnesotan ? who tested positive for the banned anabolic agent Nandrolone Metabolite following his successful title defense against Hermes Franca at UFC 73 in July ? will be decided when the commission reconvenes at 1:30 PM PT Tuesday, Nov. 13. The CSAC made the decision to delay a ruling on Sherk after commissioner Julio Ramirez expressed concern over a 17-page brief from Howard Jacobs, Sherk?s attorney. The brief, which included 20 exhibits, never reached the seven CSAC members charged with voting. Jacobs sent the brief to the CSAC at 6:15 PM PT Friday and indicated he had been provided with an acknowledgement of receipt by CSAC executive director Ar...
