Netflix Review In A Minute: Shortbus
2008-04-17 16:41:00 Ok...wow. I don't even know where to begin with this movie. Overall, I liked it. Getting over the explicit sex scenes (and there are a lot of them), at it's core it's a very simple movie about resolving isolationism and how we're all in this together...a theme underscored by the setting of the movie, a post 9/11 New York. I did have some disappointments. I wished that some of the sex scenes had been cut down so they could actually flesh out some of the characters...mainly the painfully reserved ex-prostitute, James. I got that feeling that even before his lifeguard days he was depressed, so what did finding that old man in the bottom of the pool signify? Why hadn't he let Jamie ever penetrate him? Was he abused when he was younger? His character was just too underdeveloped. Yeah, I would say thats pretty bad, but everything James has done for the DH scene in AZ has been good. Shortbus - Dir: John Cameron Mitchell
2007-08-31 11:21:00 From the director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, comes this very sexually explicit movie about gay and straight relationships that converge at the infamous Shortbus, an underground club where anything goes. During the first five minutes you wonder if this film is mutton dressed up as lamb or porn dressed up as art, with some of the most graphic sex scenes committed to celluloid outside of the adult movie industry. The film is actually strangely mesmerising with some great performances and deals with some very interesting issues about sexuality without falling in to cliches. This is not for everybody, but is definitely a unique watch, and thus a JM SUCK IT AND SEE.

Admito que à partida eu esteja excluído do público alvo desta obra porque para mim tudo nela me repugna, tudo nela é um abuso, um desgosto, um estupro dos sentidos, uma violência sexual absolutamente depravada, uma exposição da intimidade a um nível grotesco e a única qualidade que eu conseguiria reconhecer nesta coisa mete-nojo é a perspectiva ampliada que oferece sobre uma realidade que me parece monstruosa.Não duvido que haja por aí muita gente que realmente necessite deste filme, talvez seja um veículo para um conjunto de pessoas que se sentem marginais e que na digestão destas imagens se sintam incluídas e aceites. O que é positivo.
