Show Me the Money…Pretty Please
2009-05-15 14:20:00 Times are tough. All indicators point to the fact that the recession won't be letting up anytime soon. As an engineering and/or HVAC contracting business owner, you no doubt have already discovered how difficult it is to persuade banks to issue short-term business loans. But you still must propel yo
Chinese Drywall Cases. Show Me The Money!
2009-04-22 08:01:00 The Wall Street Journal Law Blog did a post the other day touting Chinese drywall as the next big mass tort action in the United States. The post is entitled, "Does the New Product-Liability Boom Lie . . . Inside the Walls?" and to the extent it hints at a "yes" answer, it is likely going to be dead wrong. It is going to be wrong because it ignores one critical point. The US plaintiffs are not likely going to be able to collect anything from the Chinese defendants by suing in them in the United States and collecting from the German defendants is likely to prove difficult as well. WARNING: I am going to have to get rather technical in this post as there is really no other way to handle a subject as legalistic as enforcing a judgment overseas. Near as I can tell, the US drywall plaintiffs are mostly suing the Chinese manufacturers of the drywall and the name most often mentioned for that Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Company. Additionally, the plaintiffs are also naming Knauf, a...

Law of Attraction - Show Me The Money
2008-12-03 17:13:00 How do you define wealth? What does it mean to you? Does it mean a million dollar home with a separate parking garage filled with exotic cars? Does it mean having a hugely successful business? Does it mean having a happy balanced family? Or does it mean having a bank balance that would rival Oprah’s?Does wealth mean choosing from the above or can you have it all? When the DVD movie ‘The Secret’ came out I remember discussing the movie with a friend and he said that he did not like the movie because it focused to heavily on money and it was not for him because he was on a spiritual path and therefore above that sort of thinking.I asked him to expand on his comment and basically it was his belief that as he was on a spiritual journey he should no longer be interested in financial gains hence ‘The Secret’ to him was shallow.I found this rather interesting and I gave my own journey some thought, I wandered if it was reasonable to put thoughts of money aside when growing persona...

Waiting for Ximmy to Show Me the Money..
2008-06-04 17:37:00 The Monetizer is patient, but when it comes to websites paying up, I like to see them do so as their FAQ state. In fact if it's money we earned through our efforts, it should be payed to us in a timely manner. After all, bill companies don't let us decide when to pay, or else we are assessed fees. Some affiliate sites online are iffy when it comes to payments, so I want to share this cautionary tale. For example, Ximmy, a site like Digg that pays, offers the following for affiliates:When do I get paid? You get paid once you generate $25 worth of commissions. Payments are made once per month (the 1st of the month) for the previous month.Simple enough right? The Monetizer has hit the threshhold for a payout in May, but has yet to see it come through. The 1st of June was of course a Sunday, and many businesses don't operate then. That's all fine and dandy, but you'd think that payment would show up the very next business day, Monday. No show from Ximmy. This is just a minor...
Show me the money!
So far, so good. E...

Show Me the Money, Honey!
2008-05-09 13:11:00 From FoxNews.com: If a stay-at-home mom could be compensated in dollars rather than personal satisfaction and unconditional love, she’d rake in a nifty sum of nearly $117,000 a year. That’s according to a pre-Mother’s Day study released Thursday by Salary.com, a Waltham, Mass.-based firm that studies workplace compensation. The eighth annual survey calculated a mom’s market value by studying pay levels for 10 job titles with duties that a typical mom performs, ranging from housekeeper and day care center teacher to van driver, psychologist and chief executive officer. CEO? Pfft. Right. Not in my house, sister. It’s more like…(oh, Sara is waking up. I better hurry.) This year, the annual salary for a stay-at-home mom would be $116,805, while a working mom who also juggles an outside job would get $68,405 for her motherly duties. One stay-at-home mom said the six-figure salary sounds a little low. It probably would be if there was some extra ef...

One Dollar Loving
2008-04-30 15:17:00 I'm trying out scratchback's Show Some Love widget on this site. Seems like a real fun way to earn a few bucks. I've made my pricing real low though, so if you want to show your love, you only have to shell out ONE DOLLAR.There's actually a very good story behind the scratchback widget (wrote about it here). This came about the first Google purge-- that time when Google was running after blogs that were selling paid links. It was only recently when they've set their eyes on paid posting companies.Anyway the scratchback widget is just like a tipping jar. You like some of the posts here in my blog for example and you're feeling really generous, you use that widget to show your appreciation. As I said, I'm very shallow. It only takes ONE DOLLAR to make me happy. And in return, you can highlight your link on the widget with all the anchor links you want.Be the first to get in there!

Show me the Money: RB Earnest Graham and QB Jeff Garcia want compensation
2008-04-12 03:54:00 RB Earnest Graham was a no show for this weeks Organized Team Activities (OTA's) aka Voluntary workouts. He's denied it but many have speculated that he's holding out for a contract extension. I can't really blame Graham. He's been a rock ever since he came to the Bucs and he really proved his worth last season and he'll continue to prove his worth for much of this season as well. With Veteran Warrick Dunn getting 6 mil for 2 years, its a no brainer Earnest Graham would look to get paid, especially with the Cap Space the Bucs currently have. QB Jeff Garcia was hopeful the Bucs Organization would rip up his current contract and provide him with a new contract he could retire a Buc with. The Bucs have shown no sign of extending his contract however. Garcia is the key that starts the Bucs engine, there's no question he is the single most important piece to the puzzle, BUT his performance last season wasn't contract extending worthy... Sure he made the Pro Bowl (by default) ...

Breaking The Entrecard Bank
2008-03-12 18:30:00 One of the things that has set the blogging world abuzz these days is the very cool idea called Entrecard. It has become so popular that it has transcended its initial design of being able to gain enough Entrecard credits through card dropping in order to ?buy? adspace in Entrecard member blogs. If you go to Ebay for example, you can see Entrecard credits being sold. The average price for Entrecard points is $4 per 1000.In the last few days, I have developed a way of amassing large numbers of Entrecard points with just a click of a button. Sounds too good to be true? Well yes it actually is, especially on my part. However, the only reason that what I have developed did not work is because I have a lousy internet connection. But for those who have very good connection especially those who are located in the first world countries, this way will definitely work. I think. This idea however is enough to make Entrecard go belly up. Sounds like bullshit doesn?t it? But really the logic is s...

Making Money The Traditional Way
2008-01-31 08:51:00 That is, getting a job. A recent blog entry in Michael Arrington?s Techcrunch, claims that graduating Computer Science students from Stanford University are being offered as much as $95K to join either Google or Facebook; those with a Masters in CS are also offered up to $130K. These are whopping amounts by third world standards. In my country, the Philippines, that?s already a Senior VP salary in some big company. Surely we have some really good graduating CS students who may even be considered at par with some of these Stanford graduates. Why don?t these two companies target them and hire them at half the cost?Unfortunately, the big companies would rather focus their attention on these Ivy League schools to get their workers. The fact that third world countries? quality of education leaves much to be desired doesn?t help either. What these big companies should do in my opinion is to think long term. If you want to hire the best people, why skim off the top? Why not start a grassro...

Water: Show Me The Money
2007-11-02 17:10:00 Water - Cashing In On An Environmental IssueBy Kay Fortinberry Borglum, M.S.www.IrrigationRepair.comYou-?ve heard the adage that water and oil don?t mix. But don?t be surprised if they play out their role as vital assets in the same sand box.Just look to our neighbors in the western U.S., specifically Las Vegas, Nevada, to measure just how important water is at this moment.Water? The same valuable natural asset status as oil? Who would have thought that could ever be the case?Actually, a hundred years ago President Theodore -Teddy- Roosevelt did. "The nation behaves well if it treats its natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired, in value."This famous quote by President Roosevelt in 1907 to the United States Congress was one of many oracle examples of a man ahead of his own generation?s individual and industrialized bad habits. His speeches unveiled an intellectual understanding of conservation and environmental stewardship...
Power To The Blogger
2007-10-30 18:30:00 The world wide web today is awash with opportunities for those who want them. It's no longer an excuse for any internet literate individual to say that he can't make money online. Nowadays, it seems like everywhere you look you see Google Adsense, Text-Ads, and a whole lot of affiliate programs. When before you have the feeling that looking for money in the internet is like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, now you practically have to fend off all those ads asking you to monetize your site! When I decided to test the waters on all those affiliate programs, my cursor first led me to Smorty. Like most affiliate programs, it serves as the bridge that links bloggers to advertisers. Through Smorty, Advertisers get to advertise on blogs, and bloggers get paid for blogging their opinion about these Advertisers' products and services. It's a pretty simple model and it works for everyone.Unlike other affiliate programs however, Smorty employs a no-fuss approach. You ...
The Pull Of An Online Presence
2007-10-30 15:39:00 I once sold wares on ebay. It was fun auctioning things I no longer need or have gotten tired of, and have other people bid on them. It's not exactly the best platform for selling things but hey, we all have to start somewhere. These days, I've been looking at ecommerce softwares that I feel would cater to the specific needs of a typical brick-and-mortar seller, just in case he feels the need or realizes the benefits of having an online presence. I've seen how amazon.com grew to be the powerhouse it is today by selling things over the internet.I've been pitching this idea to an aunt who operates a couple of retail shops. I cite barnes and noble as a prime example of a once purely brick-and-mortar company who has seen the light. I dragged her to my computer and made her see how enticing these online stores can be to potential customers. She was mesmerized by the shopping carts and the relative ease of buying things online.I then showed her the site of what I feel is one of t...

Show Me the Money!
2007-10-01 18:36:00 For those that do not or have never owned a home the idea of suddenly acquiring $100k plus debt where none was before can be quite daunting. What once may have been a fairly low debt existence has over night become a seriously large IOU. There is a very bright side to all of this though, one of which is having a house you call home, not just where you live, but it’s yours. There are all sorts of tax deductions, like the interest on the loan that help make the house payments less than they appear. Ultimately however, a mortgage loan is not just money you borrowed and owe, it is the roof over your house and if it makes it easier for you consider each mortgage payment a payment to yourself; you’re getting a house in the deal. Prior to taking on homeownership one should do a little research on financing; a good place to start out might be CREDITLOAN, which has a rich selection of information on that loan for a home. CREDITLOAN goes beyond mortgages; it covers all t...

Gilbert Arenas Says, "Show Me The Money!" [David Stefanini]
2007-06-10 20:49:00 It looks like the Washington Wizards are going to have to dig deep, very deep into their pockets to keep All-Star Gilbert Arenas on there team. The only player in the NBA to score 60 points this season, says he will opt out of his contract after next season.Arenas first told the Washington Post he has no intentions of leaving of the Wizards. However, he later told the Washington Times, ""I'm going to opt out and consider some other teams next year...I want to test the market and test my value."Personally, that does not sound like someone who wants to stay in Washington. That sounds like an All-Star that knows he is far bigger than the Wizards and wants to play in a big market like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles.Arenas is an amazing player and would be a great addition to any team. I heard a rumor that Arenas wouldn't ask for a maximum contract to help the Wizards out. Then why opt out to begin with? Clearly he will demand the maximum. The Washington Wizards will more than likely ...
