Vista Sidebar Gadget for WHS (Windows Home Server) users
2008-05-03 21:32:00 The Home Server Hacks blog has just announced a new Windows Vista Sidebar gadget just for Windows Home Server users. This gadget, called "ShareMaster for Home Server," gives you quick access to the Windows Home Server's standard shared folders (Music, Photos, Public, Software, Users and Videos). The gadget has six icons on it that correspond to those six shared folders on the server. Clicking an icon on the gadget will open up that network shared folder. What's even cooler, though, is that you can drag and drop files onto the icons themselves to automatically move them from your PC to your Home Server. That's handy! This is definitely a must-have tool for any Windows Home Server owners. You can download the gadget from here. (image via Home Server Hacks) Source Taimur Asad (The Microsoft "Wow" Blog!)

Check out these new Sidebar Gadgets for Windows Vista
2008-04-22 07:49:00 Today I've got some pretty neat new Sidebar Gadgets to tell you about for Windows Sidebar. If you're into Baseball, you'll like this new Gadget. Fox Sports on MSN is offering a Fantasy Baseball Gadget brought to you by People-Ready Business from Microsoft. With this Gadget, you can check up on Fantasy Baseball news, check player stats, and create your own roster. This Gadget requires Adobe Flash so if you're running Windows Vista x64 (like me), you'll need to run Windows Sidebar under 32-bit. To do that in Windows Vista x64 - just go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Windows Sidebar and execute sidebar.exe from there. Download the People-Ready Fantasy Baseball Gadget here. Another new Gadget to check out is the brand new MSN Video Gadget for Windows Sidebar. The MSN Video Team announced its availability today along with some highlights as to what you can do with the Gadget on their blog. Download the MSN Video Gadget here. Sidebar gadget brings WebSlices to the desktop
2008-03-31 21:35:00 WebSlices, meet desktop. Desktop, meet the web. Sean Lyndersay, ironically a former Microsoft IE developer (now Live Search), has developed a rather ingenuous solution to display WebSlices on the desktop using a very simple Sidebar gadget he calls the ?WebSlice Viewer Gadget?. It?s still in alpha so it?s all Microsoft?s fault if it breaks. In a nutshell, because WebSlices are actually stored as feeds inside the native Windows RSS platform, desktop applications including Sidebar gadgets can very simply fetch and display the data without much hassle. In this case, it couldn?t be any simpler to pick the WebSlice you want to display in the gadget, and have it appear in a simple frame on the desktop. I think many people underestimated the potential of WebSlices by implying it was redundant in IE8 because you could just as easily load the full page which is true inside a browser, I think this gadget outside of the browser is a much better example of demonstrating where ?subscribing? to a...

Windows Vista Sidebar Gadgets Suck
2007-02-24 01:28:01 I’ve had Vista installed since mid-December now. I know Apple has already done it, but I thought the addition of the Sidebar was great. I recently visited the Sidebar Gadget download page and was appalled at the lack of well-recieved gagdgets. The top download is a simple calculator with a 2/5 rating. Two of the top rated gadgets are prayer related. Only one gagdget listed as ‘Top Rated’ has a rating of over 3/5. There are currently 396 gadgets available for download and after taking a quick scroll through the list nothing stands out at me as especially useful, innovative, or even very well recieved. The average rating seems to be about 2.5/5. I’m not trying to bash gadgets, just critique the utility and quality of those currently available. Can anyone suggest a gadget they particularly like??
