Rushing to the Aid of a Foe?s Fanbase in Their Hour of Need
2008-06-02 06:59:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Being the high-road breed of hockey fans we are, we are called in this hour of anguish for our rivals to the North and West to traffic in empathy, commiseration, and sportsmanship. The black and gold partisans may not return the courtesy when they’re playing the role of ...
Secret Handshake?
2008-05-21 19:47:00
Perhaps you have seen this picture of Sidney Crosby shaking hands with Mario Lemieux after the Pittsburgh Penguins? victory against Philadelphia on Sunday. Although only two people who read Sean's Ramblings may understand this, doesn?t Sidney?s handshake look familiar? Are Crosby and Lemieux honorary members of a certain youth organization? I?m scared to reveal anymore, although I guess I could provide a link in case you really want to know what I?m writing about.Ancient Chinese secret, huh?
Pens To Cup Final
2008-05-19 21:26:00
The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first team to the Stanley Cup final. The Pens soundly defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 Sunday night leaving no doubt that the Pens loss in game four was a wake-up call.
Hossa Silencing Skeptics, So Far

The biggest knock on Marian Hossa was his play in the post season. Know that Hossa has played 12 games in the post season this year, where are the critics?
Penguins-Flyers Storylines
2008-05-05 12:06:00
Now that the Pittsburgh Penguins have defeated the New York Rangers, we can all focus on the Eastern conference final between the Pens and the Philadelphia Flyers. For those of you seeking storylines for the series, let me be of assistance of what you will hear from sportscasters and writers over the next week.Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are both located in Pennsylvania, or some variation of this such as the battle of Pennsylvania or the Keystone State rivalry. Let?s face it: this is truly a battle between fans that choose pop versus fans who say soda.In the Eastern conference semi-finals, Jordan Staal of the Penguins defeated his older brother Marc Staal of the Rangers. Jordan Staal has no siblings on the Flyers. (Or does he? [dramatic pause] No he does not.)The Flyers? R.J. Umberger is the Pittsburgh area. Specifically, Umberger is from Plum, which was on of the high schools that my high school faced regularly in sporting events (the last part will not be mentioned during any ...
Sidney Crosby diving, whining causing quite the splash in New York
2008-04-27 17:12:00
Sunday morning pop quiz: if someone happens to be moaning like a schoolgirl that Sidney Crosby, for instance, is a whiner, what exactly does that make whinee? Granted, that is not a grammatically correct term - heck, it isn't even a word - but stick with me. It's for effect only.Case in point, New York Rangers coach Tom Renney and pretty well every pro-Blueshirts' scribe in the metropolitan New York area bellyaching that Greg Louganis Crosby may have taken a dive for the team in Pittsburgh's series-opening win Friday night.Which, even if it constitutes one a diver, would strike me as being a pretty intelligent maneuver at the same time, no?Let's not forget, this is a league where officials reward players who drop like they've been shot every ten minutes or so. Don't blame the actor competitor for doing nothing more than taking advantage of a titanic loophole in the rulebook.I've got an idea, and that only happens once every six or seven months. Set up a committee, and I...
The Questions That Surround The Senators

Same As It Ever Was
2008-04-03 02:40:00
Now that the hockey regular season is all but over, the guessing of which players that teams not making the post season will want to acquire will once again begin. The NHL is right back where they were before the lock-out.
Pens Top Isles 3-1

Sidney Crosby returned to the ice last night after sitting out the last few games with his high ankle sprain. He shouldn't have bothered.
There is no rumor about this year?s MVP
2008-03-18 16:25:00
It?s quite possible that you don?t care about this. But almost two years ago, I offered a worded argument for Sidney Crosby as the 2005-2006 Rookie of the Year. If you remember, his biggest challenger at that time was eventual winner Alex Ovechkin, Washington?s two-years older, negative-adjectiveless 2004 draft pick. I specify because, as I ...

Sundin and the Canadiens, Kaberle, Smith, Thrashers, Canadiens, and Crosby
2008-03-18 00:29:00
Were the Canadiens close to picking up Mats Sundin on deadline day? How close were the Flyers from acquiring Tomas Kaberle? Is Jason Smith on course to become a Devil? Are the Thrashers trying to re-sign their their pending free agents? Will the Canadiens have an easier time in attracting free agents this summer? Would Penguins ever trade Sidney Crosby?
Will Penguins re-sign Hossa?
2008-03-13 02:27:00
Jason Botterill, Pittsburgh Penguins' man in charge of their salary cap situation, tells the National Post's Scott Taylor that the club has not made a decision on whether to offer pending unrestricted free agent forward Marian Hossa a contract.

I love attending the Pittsburgh Penguins-Washington Capitals games in DC. Even though the Caps are the home team and play in their home arena, the game seems as close to a neutral site as you will find because of the even amount of fans supporting each team. I?ve probably attended at least six of these games over the past few years and I think that the Penguins have emerged victorious every time. You couldn?t have asked for a better game on Sunday as Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining** to give the Penguins a 4-2 victory (Jordan Staal added an empty net goal). Much more on this game at The Pensblog, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (here and here) and The Washington Post.- Can I blame Metro or Maryland?s transportation department for signage around the Forest Glen Metro Station? Taking the Beltway to the Georgia Avenue, there is a sign letting you know to turn left, or take Georgia Avenue South, to get to the Metro. After driving about a half-mile, the...
Life Without the Internet
2008-03-06 13:31:00
From Monday at 11:00am until Wednesday at 10:00pm, something was missing in my life. That something was internet access. I wasn?t in the remote wilderness; I was in New York City. I even had a computer, although I could not justify paying $17.95 a night for internet access in my hotel room. I even considered paying $8 for internet access at LaGuardia airport (cheers again to Albuquerque Airport for having free wireless internet), but I didn?t think it was worth it. Instead, I had to learn about what was going on in the world through the USA Today and the limited time I had in my hotel room watching TV.Over the last few days, my life has been incomplete. I couldn?t check my e-mail or visit my usual website for news and information including the Post-Gazette, Washington Post, Deadspin and Google Reader. For example, I didn?t know that Sidney Crosby returned to the Penguins until after the game ended. I couldn?t see if people had excellent best man speech ideas for me based on ...
A Savior Ascends
2008-02-03 17:42:00
(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - We are likely to look back on this week and realize it as historically significant in the lifetime of the Washington Capitals. Sidney Crosby to miss Sunday?s All-Star Game
2008-01-26 02:00:00
Sidney Crosby’s high ankle sprain will force him to miss Sunday’s NHL All-Star game and six to eight weeks of the season. He injured his right ankle Friday during the Penguins’ 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay. “I was hoping three to four weeks would be the most,” he said.

(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - I know everyone’s as sick of hearing about Sidney Crosby and his league-debilitating injury as I am, but when I read Bob Duff’s MSNBC column this morning, I was entertained. Sidney Crosby injury may force Penguins to trade
2008-01-21 20:14:00
You can't replace Sidney Crosby.Make no mistake. There is no substituting the best player on the planet. But the Pittsburgh Penguins have to find a way to replace even a fraction of Crosby's scoring. It's time for Ray Shero to go tire-kickin'.A playoff spot in Pittsburgh may hinge on it.As of Sunday night, the jury was still out on just how long Crosby will be out of the lineup after falling awkwardly into the boards during a loss to the Lightning in the Steel City Friday night.Early estimates have Crosby out a month with a high-ankle sprain. Others feel that is a best-case scenario.Either way, if the Penguins hope to be in the post-season a few months from now, those aspirations may very well depend on what general manager Ray Shero has up his sleeve over the next couple of weeks. All the current trade whispers seem to center around the drama unfolding in Toronto and whether or not Mats Sundin will waive his no-trade clause.A handful of western conference heavyweights - among the...

Why Sidney Crosby Will Win the Art Ross
2008-01-13 16:26:00
Everyone in the NHL knows its going to happen soon. They're not sure if it will happen in a day or a month, but the general consensus should be that sooner or later, Crosby will be in the scoring race lead. Why? It's obvious. He's the best player. As it stands Crosby is one point behind Ilya Kovalchuk whom he has two games in hand over, and two points behind Lecavalier who has played one extra game.Reasons why he will win again:Crosby is the top assist getter. Sometimes he can't find the back of the net, but his ability to help others light the lamp is almost always there.Kovalchuk on pace for 66 goals halfway through the season? Not likely to actually happen.Lecavalier is not as consistent, and may rely too much on other teammates. Who knows if he goes through a point drought in the last few games of the season.Pittsburgh are on a roll; Tampa Bay are doing terribly. As we know Crosby doesn't like losing. A winning environment and a playoff contender is a great place for youngst...

(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Thought I’d share a couple blurbs with you as praise for the NHL’s Winter Classic continues to ripple through the sports pages. Give the NHL credit when credit is due: the marketing for tomorrow’s game has been — most particularly by ...

Penguins, Crosby & Malkin & Staal, and the Ducks

Sidney Crosby wants to be your tailor
2007-08-22 17:51:00
How much money do these young athletes need? And just because you can make more, just by signing your name, don't you lose something, too? Like respect. These kids are sucked into the corporate vortex on the lure of glits, glamour, money and exposure and what they spit out is meaningless, soulless ? stuff. In Canada, you couldn't watch TV for an hour without Wayne Gretzky trying to sell you a car. Now it's Sydney Crosby trying to get you into a new wardrobe. His: Sidney Crosby has been doubling as a fashion consultant with Reebok and has developed his very own line of clothing. It's been a hands-on experience for the NHL's most valuable player. "It was funny because I was getting these prints and these designs sent to me at home," Crosby said Tuesday at the launch for the fall collection of his Rbk SC87 line. "I'd be with my parents and we'd be discussing what's in style and what's out of style. Yes, it's funny, because yesterday he didn't know cott...

2007-2008 Pittsburgh Penguins Schedule
2007-07-12 13:01:00
With Wednesday?s release of the 2007-2008 NHL schedule, I am here to break-down the Pittsburgh Penguins schedule. I?d like to point out that the NHL apparently fears matching the Penguins with colors. The Penguins do not play against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues or Chicago Blackhawks.Friday, October 5, 2007 ? at Carolina ? The first game of the year!Saturday, October 6 ? vs. Anaheim ? The Pens? home opener against the defending Stanley Cup championsWednesday, October 10 ? vs. Montreal ? Sidney Crosby takes over the NHL points lead.Saturday, October 20 ? at Washington ? I?ll be there!Monday, November 5 ? at New Jersey ? I?ll watch the first two periods and then probably switch to ESPN for the Steelers-Ravens game. How am I going to watch both games plus Prison Break and How I Met Your Mother?Thursday, November 22 ? at Ottawa ? The first time these teams will meet since the Stanley Cup playoffs. Hopefully, the result of this game will be better for...
Ovechkin on Crosby?s New Deal

(c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - Our good friend Dmitry Chesnokov of Sovetsky Sport (your Russian needs to be pretty polished to read it) was able to reach Alexander Ovechkin by telephone today and get his reaction to Sidney Crosby’s new contract with the Penguins. Sidney Crosby is the real LeBron James
2007-05-30 18:17:00
I love King James. He freaks the rack better than anyone I've ever seen and his head is actually screwed on straight (which is unusual for a young superstar these days). But can we please slow down with the 45 comparisons? LeBron is not 45, he's not even close at this point. In fact, he's not even the best player in the league-- yet. That Canadian guy in Phoenix can sure play some round ball and that whiner in LA finds the bottom of the net better than anyone I've seen since 45. If you wanted a quickie run at a title, you'd be stupid to take the King over either of those guys. So, am I calling LeBron a disappointment? Maybe. His apologists will say, "Give it time-- hell, he's only 22 and he's already a stud". Well stud is simply not good enough. Perennial All-Star is simply not good enough. When the hype around you is so big that ESPN is televising your high school games and Dick Vitale is touting you as the most talented basketball player he's ever seen; then you better be f...
