Andrew Sullivan & the Left-Wing Mythof Conservative Silence in the Face of
2009-09-21 02:16:00
While Andrew Sullivan, despite his lurch to the left these past five years, remains a gifted writer, he, more often than not uses his verbal and literary gifts to conceal an increasingly incoherent political philosophy.**  He claims to be a “small government” conservative, but has been almost unstinting in his praise of a big-government liberal ...
Our First China Hummer Post. Our Silence Said It All.
2009-09-09 12:28:00
Virtually every week, somebody emails or calls me with the perfect (usually distressed) United States company for me to pitch to "all the people" I know in China. I have even gotten calls from government agencies asking me what they should be doing to lure Chinese businesses. Here is what I am seeing. Chinese companies looking to buy American companies are usually looking for a valuable technology or commodity or, to a much lesser extent, a strong brand name. If the company you are pitching has neither, the chances of a Chinese company buying it are really slim. People have told me that Chinese companies "have to be" interested in companies with really good marketing people. They tell me Chinese companies are terrible at marketing and so they obviously will be buying American companies that are good at it. That's true in theory, false in reality. There are a few oddball purchases and formations out there and those generally consist of the following. -- The wealthy C...
TIME Magazine Calls Jay Leno the Future of Television (Moment of Silence Pl
2009-09-04 19:13:00
Dear James Poniewozik, I hope you’re happy. And by that I mean, was it really necessary to ruin my holiday weekend by reminding me — on the cover of the the new issue of TIME Magazine no less — that Jay Leno is the future of television. I mean we’re talking about NBC here. Of course Jay Leno is the future of television. This is after-all the perennial fourth place network that is so desperate for a win, they took it upon themselves to crown Conan O’Brien the new king of late night two weeks into his tenure. The network that we’re fairly confident will import any show from any country in an effort to find the next OFFICE. Heck, over a decade later, NBC President Jeff Zucker, Kevin Reilly, Ben Silverman, Andrea Bromstad is still searching for the next FRIENDS. That, and you said it yourself, “NBC has set the bar low enough for a sleeping man to clear. If Leno can just get the ratings he did in late night, some 5 million viewers (paltry by 10 p.m. sta...
Appellate Court grants extension for filing Moment of Silence brief
2009-08-31 20:35:00
The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit today (Monday, August 31st) granted the request of Assistant Illinois Attorney General Rachel Murphy for an extension of time to file her appellate brief in the Student Prayer Act "Moment of Silence" case. The Appellate Court ordered that the due date for Rachel's brief is changed from September 8th to Thursday, October 8, 2009.  The reply brief from my side is due thirty days later, on Monday, November 9, 2009.  Rachel's response, if any, to our reply is due fourteen days later, on Monday, November 23, 2009. Here is an actual copy of the Court Order:  Granted090831.pdf...

2009-08-29 01:00:00
Assistant Illinois Attorney General Rachel Murphy has, in behalf of her boss, Lisa Madigan, asked the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit for an extension of time to file the Appellant's Brief in the Illinois public school Student Prayer Act "Moment of Silence" case. Miss Murphy has asked the appellate court to extend the deadline for filing their brief from September 8th to October 8, 2009....

Sai Baba: Glaring Publicity yet Silence on Critical Issues
2009-08-21 18:17:00
In earlier years, many Sai Baba devotees strictly followed his advice not to engage in publicity for him. He claimed his success was ensured without the need for any publicity whatever, and he banned all such. All that has now changed! Meanwhile, he continued to blare out in discourses (relayed in print, film and ...
Green Party candidate for Attorney General rejects Moment of Silence defens
2009-08-11 23:35:00
David Black, the Green Party candidate for Illinois Attorney General, told Godless in Chicago, today, that he would not defend the Student Prayer Act "Moment of Silence" case in federal appeals court. "The law is unconstitutional.  It is not defensible and it is a waste of taxpayer resources to try and defend it," said David. Yesterday, the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit issued an order to current Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to file her brief in support of the law by September 8th, as noted in my earlier post, today, Appellate Court rejects Madigan request to delay Moment of Silence case. Lisa does have the option of withdrawing her appeal of my daughter's federal court victory in...
Appellate Court rejects Madigan request to delay Moment of Silence case
2009-08-11 11:15:00
The United States Court of Appeals has ordered Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to file her appeal brief in the "Moment of Silence" case, and to do so by September 8th. Dawn Sherman. Photo by her daddy. Isn't she beautiful?! That's the case in which my sixteen-year-old atheist daughter, Dawn Sherman, who was only fourteen years old at the time, took on the entire Illinois General Assembly in federal court and won, getting the notorious mandatory Student Prayer Act declared unconstitutional on January 21st of this year by federal Judge Robert Gettleman, a former ACLU of Illinois Board Member (how convenient!). Madigan requested last week, for the third time since April, that the Appellate Court suspend briefing on the case until...
Madigan stalls again, deceives court on Moment of Silence
2009-08-05 02:40:00
A lawyer working for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed another status report with the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, yesterday (Monday, August 3, 2009), regarding the Student Prayer Act "Moment of Silence" case. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Assistant Attorney General Rachel Murphy "suggests," as she put it in her brief, that the Appellate Court "suspend briefing in this matter" until November 3, 2009.  In the alternative, Murphy "proposes that the Court set a briefing schedule." The reasons cited for suspending briefing for yet another three months were disingenuous and misleading....
Government Held Responsible for "Utter Silence"
2009-08-03 22:54:00
An Armed Services Board case, ADT Construction Group, Inc., involves an appeal from a contracting officer's final decision denying a claim for $826,725.16 and a 278-day time extension. The contractor had filed a claim for pre-construction delays arising out of a contract for the design and construction of a munitions maintenance facility at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. Although the contract in question was ultimately terminated for default and appealed to the Board (ASBCA No. 55358), the termination appeal was suspended pending the outcome of the appeal on the underlying delay claim. The Board obviously concluded that the merits of the underlying delay claim could have an effect on the merits of the termination for default. Although the Board found that some of the delay was the fault and responsibility of the Government, we were particularly interested in the Board's conclusion about the contractor's right to pursue "fast track." After drafting the solicitation the g...
What does it mean to live in silence?
2009-08-03 14:31:00
I often wonder. Is it my imagination that comes up with the tiny ringing in my ears? It's only in total silence that I hear it. It's distant… so I often have to wonder whether it's external.. or internal. It makes me feel… uncomfortable… and anxious. It's so… annoying that I can't sleep without the fan on because it makes a more welcoming sound… and at least I know it's not all in my head. Either the fan… or the radio are more calming than that ringing.
Madigan decision in Moment of Silence case due tomorrow
2009-08-02 11:30:00
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan Tomorrow is the date that the US Court of Appeals set for Attorney General Lisa Madigan to file her update on whether or not she is going to appeal my victory, from January of this year, in the Moment of Silence case. That's the case in which my daughter, Dawn, successfully challenged, in federal court, the Illinois Student Prayer Act, which required public school teachers to stop teaching during instructional time so that the Christian kids could pray without being interrupted by what they were supposed to be doing in school, which is to study. Lisa has sought several extensions of time to decide whether to appeal.  It's time to make a decision, Lisa. There actually...
Silence Isn't Golden for the W***** Tower
2009-07-26 22:54:00
(Photo credit: Jeff Reimer | Mode of Expression.) There are bad branding strategies. There are Macy's-mothballs-Marshall-Field- awful branding strategies. And then there's Willis Group's hubris- and hare-brained idea to rename the Sears Tower. What do you get when you glue a new name on an old icon whose existing monicker has worldwide recognition? Judging by local blog discussion, a good laugh--and lots of people who say they just won't bother to say the word W*****....

Havlat will remain golden with silence
2009-07-06 18:52:00
Congratulations are in order for Martin Havlat for deciding to take the high road in his emotional break with the Blackhawks. Of course, how long Havlat stays on that course is anybody's guess. Intrepid reporters will be trying to make last season's top scorer in Chicago spill the juice for months to come, and no more so than when he plays the Hawks next season with the Minnesota Wild. The Fourth Period seems to have a link inside the Havlat camp and gave an inkling of why there was a testy split between the two sides. According to TFP, Havlat thought he might have a chance to sign for 10 years or more with the Hawks. Based on his...

New effort to move along Moment of Silence case
2009-06-23 11:30:00
Illinois State Senators Kimberley Lightford and William Haine have been asked to draft letters for submission to the U.S. Court of Appeals that affirm that they have no intention of moving either of two pending Bills that would amend the unconstitutional Moment of Silence law. Lightford and Haine each sponsor one of those two Bills.  Amending the law would moot out the appeal by eliminating the unconstitutional parts....

Silence & Complicity

By Camille Marino5/6/09This crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism.--Albert EinsteinIn order to trade in death, agribusiness demands a compliant and malleable social order. In fact, one needs to step back and appreciate the diabolical nature of indoctrination; the fine art of sacrificing individual thought in favor of a collective social psyche.A corpse -- by definition, harvested from a once-living flesh-and-blood individual -- elicits a profoundly-disconnected programmed response in the mainstream: flesh... A-1 Steak Sauce... yummy. The cemented indoctrination of a culture. The youngest child knows that sacrificing non-human animals for human animals is a noble pursuit: sending monkeys into space; sacrificing insignificant lab rats; milk-mustache posters advocating stealing secretions from other species; and, of course, pet ownership to bring home that biblical concept of dominion. And adult humans -- their lives measured from one type of flesh fix to ano...
?Day of Silence:? Gay Groups Promote Another Silly Stunt

The various national (and some local) gay and lesbian groups have promoted a great variety of silly gimmicks to get their message across that it becomes hard to determine which is the silliest. Silence is the New Black

Back in college, I had a good friend and we were quite close. When it became clear that we would not get romantically involved, or maybe he just tired of our platonic relationship, he said some awful things about me. All over campus, people repeated these lies. When I found out, I lost my mind. I resembled a mini-tornado - setting the record straight and revealing his struggles and sharing his secrets and ruining his reputation and scaring the children and blowing a few brain cells in the process. I was a terror. I am not proud of this. But no one has dogged me since. So I haven’t had a whole lot of practice dealing with this kind of issue…as an adult. A part of me wants to revert back because it always made me feel better to torch the town. Do you know how satisfying it would be to hear, “Yeah, Kate. That shit’s crazy.” But another part of me knows that to write about everything would only make me feel worse. I am a grown-up now. And I’ve ...

Blogging Silence
2009-03-26 00:51:00
It’s been a while eh? I have been absent for more than two weeks without saying a words. Gee, wake up lards! To be honest, I am too lazy to update this blog. I apologize for the absence of my updates. Things have been changing, but it seems to be returning to normalcy now. I am online everyday, but I am always doing something else. I didn’t have anything to share, so I had nothing to blog about too. But now that I have a little bit of good news, I am back again. You will find a nice update and new post every week! Yay! I hope my drive to write wins over my laziness. Remember that I told you I started to get bored about my long vacation? Well, I am no longer bored. What makes me busy is my daughter Maria. I enrolled her in an activity class for the summer. I am also accompanying her from Monday thru Saturday. It’s a long story, however, I will talk about it later.

Lord Ahmed's attempts to silence debate on the true nature of Islam fail
2009-02-07 06:58:00
CCFOC published: 4th February 2009, 'Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch Parliament since 1998 and the founder of the Party for Freedom, has been re-invited to screen his latest film, Fitna, in the House of Lords later this month after the original event was cancelled in the face of threats by Lord Ahmed to mobilise Muslims to stop Mr Wilders entering Parliament. Fitna is a short film made by Mr Wilders in 2008 that explores the Koran?s position on terrorism, Islamic universalism, and Islam in the Netherlands and Europe. The film?s title comes from the Arabic word ?fitna? which is used to describe ?disagreement and division among people?, or a ?test of faith in times of trial?. Mr Wilders was initially invited to screen his film Fitna in the House of Lords on 29th January 2009. However, various representatives of the British Muslim community objected to this invitation. Foxes crying foul in the henhouse! Atheists? cunning ploys to silence debat

http://creationontheweb.com/ says,'Recent news articles have featured claims that famous evolutionary naturalist Sir David Attenborough, apparently receives hate mail from alleged creationists telling him to ?burn in hell? for not crediting God in his presentations.1 One wonders why a man held in such high regard would think that this is worthy of a news announcement. At CMI, we regularly receive such mail, and often more ?colourful? than that?but so what? However, even the fundamentalist Darwinian evolutionist Richard Dawkins thought this was worthy of a mention on his own site.2 But why? Those of us closely involved in the origins debate realize that ?crying foul? is an oft-used tactic by the biblioskeptics to try and marginalize, in particular, the creationists. Understandably, the immediate reaction the average person (both Christians and non-Christian) has to such statements is revulsion. Why Obama Wants to Silence Limbaugh
2009-01-29 16:32:00
Fifty-three percent of American voters voted for Barack Obama; 46% voted for John McCain, and 1% voted for wackos. Give that 1% to President Obama. Let’s say the vote was 54% to 46%. As a way to bring the country together and at the same time determine the most effective way to deal with recessions, under the Obama-Limbaugh Stimulus Plan of 2009: 54% of the $900 billion — $486 billion — will be spent on infrastructure and pork as defined by Mr. Obama and the Democrats; 46% — $414 billion — will be directed toward tax cuts, as determined by me. Then we compare. We see which stimulus actually works. This is bipartisanship! It would satisfy the American people’s wishes, as polls currently note; and it would also serve as a measurable test as to which approach best stimulates job growth. I say, cut the U.S. corporate tax rate — at 35%, among the highest of all industrialized nations — in half. Suspend the capital gains tax for a year to in...
