Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Cupertino, and Los Altos all continue to feature very few short sale listings, and these markets remain stronger. They are still "buyer's markets", as is all of Siicon Valley, but prices are rising even as the number of sales is low. In Silicon Valley's entry level real estate market, though, such as Blossom Valley, east San Jose, south county and south San Jose, is another story. There, it is a deep buyer's market. Prices are dropping. Blossom Valley's home values have been plummeting in recent months. Where there are a lot of short sales, values decline. Where there aren't many short sales, prices appear to be holding or rising. With sales of HUMMERs down 22 percent in 2007 and gas prices well on their way to $4/gallon and more it's understandable that a dealer might be reluctant to spend several million dollars on a new showroom and off-road test track. Ron Battistella, owner of Silicon Valley HUMMER, stopped selling new vehicles early this month and will shut down the service department at the end of March after GM decided to take back his franchise. Even though Battistella won't be selling the big SUVs anymore, the area likely won't be without their military poseur fix for long. There are several other GM dealers in the area, one of whom will likely take over the franchise soon. 2008-02-15 20:22:00 A romantic tourist destination in the Western Highlands of Vietnam dubbed City of Love, Da Lat targets to be a sort of Silicon Valley clone in Vietnam in the next decade. Some attributes being promoted by local authority: nice weather around the year, good telecom and networking infrastructure, supporting local authority agencies, local human resource development through intensive education and training. Those conditions are just OK for event entertainment business but far from Silicon Valley clone business environment. There is no top local university in Da Lat, VC investment is a new concept in Vietnam, no VC tax incentive policy yet, lacks of entrepreneurial spirit. Young local talents either choose Hanoi or HCM City for career destination rather than Da Lat.
