Sir Alex Ferguson Criticises Premier League Plans
2011-04-01 15:56:00
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has had his say on the Premier League's plan to cut down on abusive behaviour towards referees. Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has announced that from the start of next season, the Premier League hopes to get clubs to crackdown on ?unacceptable? behaviour by players and managers towards referees. Sir Alex Ferguson is currently serving a five-game touchline ban for comments made about referee Martin Atkinson, but he insists that there is no issue. Speaking at Friday's press conference, Sir Alex said: ?Richard Scudamore hasn't got an awful lot to do, doesn't he? He's trying to elevate the Premier League - fine, that's good, that's his job. ?I don't think managers disrespect referees. I got fined for what I thought was a fair comment. He didn't, he gave me a five-match ban, that's fine. ?But there's a difference to say that we don't respect referees? "They've got a difficult job, we all know that. You woul...
Sir Alex: I Think Arsenal Or Ourselves Will Win It
2011-02-26 14:58:00
Ahead of Man United's game against Chelsea on Tuesday, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed Chelsea's chances of winning the league title. Sir Alex said: "I think Arsenal or ourselves will win it? "What I said earlier in the season was that normally two teams break away. You come towards the end of the season and it always seems to come down to two teams and that's the way it's looking now." Before of today's game, Man United are currently top of the table, with Arsenal a point behind the league leaders but have played a game extra. A win away at Wigan Athletic this afternoon would take Man United four points clear of second place Arsenal. Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind Man United. They are two points behind Tottenham and four behind Man City. Sir Alex continued: ?It won't be easy [for Chelsea] to come back from that kind of points deficit. "I said some time ago, the team that is most consistent would win the ...
Sir Alex Ferguson On Welbeck And Rafael Escapes Further Ban
2011-01-21 17:10:00
Danny Welbeck so far this season has had a very successful time on loan at Sunderland, which as lead to him being linked with a permanent move to the Stadium of Light. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished these reports. After selling Darren Bent to Aston Villa, Sunderland will be looking for a replacement but that will not be Welbeck. Sir Alex said: ?Steve (Bruce) has as much chance of getting me. ?It is unfortunate Danny will be out for six weeks because he was playing so well. ?He has shown fantastic form and he is only 20. ?He has a long way to go yet but the signs are good for him.? Today, Rafael Da Silva has been fined and warned about his future behaviour after accepting the FA?s improper conduct charge. Rafael was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. A statement released by the FA read: At an Independent regulatory Commission hearing today, Manchester United?s Rafael Da Silva was fine...
Sir Alex Ferguson On Signings, Macheda And Cleverley
2010-12-31 17:31:00
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson unsurprisingly confirmed that there will be no major signings during the January transfer window. Denmark keeper Anders Lindegaard will join United from Aalesund in January, he has spent December training with the Man United squad but can't sign until the window opens. Sir Alex said: "We have no plans to bring anyone in when the window opens" The gaffer went on to talk about Federico Macheda, who has been linked with a move away to clubs such as Roma, Bolton and his former club Lazio. Macheda's agent has said that he believes there are no less than four Serie A clubs looking to sign the 19-year old. "Kiko is in the same position as the likes of Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf. We've got a clutch of young strikers at the club who need games. Kiko comes into that category. "I've had a chat with him. I don?t want him to go but the way the squad is shaping up - Michael Owen is fit again, Chicharito is progressing well, Bebe will be a s...
Sir Alex Set To Retire? Who Will Replace Him?
2010-04-21 01:36:00
Back in 2002 Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was all set to retire, but after a change of heart it was agreed that he would stay on for another three years. Eight years later Sir Alex is still in charge of Man United, with rumours surfacing yet again suggesting that he will retire after next season. I think most Man United fans are dreading the day that Sir Alex retires, it will come because it has to but I believe these are just newspaper rumours. I believe that Sir Alex will announce his retirement completely out of the blue, without any warning at all and that will be it. I also believe that Man United and Sir Alex Ferguson together will have chosen his successor. Fergie isn?t going to leave United in a mess, he will help chose the next manager, who will be right for the job. I also don?t believe that right now Sir Alex has any dates in his mind. I can see him wanting to knock Liverpool off their perch and help United win 19 league titles, which could happen this seaso...

Crewe and Nantwich - Sir Alex Ferguson supports Labour.
2008-05-19 13:23:00
Just when you thought that the Labour team in Crewe and Nantwich had absolutely no policies apart from "Tory Toffs", they've come up with a beauty: putting a picture of Sir Alex Ferguson on their leaflets. Football supremo Ferguson is of course well known as a political mastermind and no doubt his endorsement of Moyra Tamsin Dunwoody will have locals voting labour in their droves. Not.

Rooney leaves growing pains behind
2007-10-31 21:01:00
Two goals last weekend, one midweek in the Champions League and another -- plus a starring role -- in Manchester United's 4-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday suggest that Wayne Rooney may finally be getting back to the sort of form that persuaded Alex Ferguson to part with $54 million in 2004.Teenage prodigies rarely manage to deliver on their early potential and Rooney, who turned 22 last week, has been dogged by niggling injuries and poor form since emerging as one of the world's most promising young talents at Euro 2004 after bursting into the Everton and England teams before his 18th birthday.Even last season, Rooney was a strangely peripheral figure as United swept to the title, perhaps still struggling to shake off the physical and psychological effects of a nightmarish World Cup at which he arrived late -- thrown desperately into England's quarterfinal against Portugal despite having been ruled out of the competition six weeks earlier by a broken foot -- and left early ...
Sir Alex Ferguson?s Greatest Achievement?
2007-10-18 18:52:00
Never mind the nine Premier League titles, the FA Cup and of course the treble of 1999, according to Martin Samuel of The Times, Fergie’s most impressive achievement at the club can be found in one simple acronym: ABU. That’s anyone but United. It’s the simple notion that the neutral football fan automatically pulls for an opponent ...
Rooney begs boss for cup chance
2007-09-26 13:11:00
Wayne Rooney has pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson to let him play in Wednesday night's Carling Cup tie with Coventry at Old Trafford.Under normal circumstances, Rooney would be excused involvement as Ferguson takes the opportunity to give his less experienced players some exposure at senior level. However, two games into his comeback from a broken foot, Rooney is desperate to face Iain Dowie's men - and has even laid claim to the captain's armband."Wayne Rooney's been in my ear wanting to play," Ferguson told Manchester United Radio."He wants to play, he wants to be the captain, he wants to take the penalties, the corners, the free-kicks, the goal-kicks, the lot."Rooney is likely to get his wish, even if it is just to get Ferguson a bit of peace. The England striker will be joined by fellow first-team stars Anderson and Nani and, possibly, John O'Shea, who has missed three games after injuring his knee on Republic of Ireland duty in the Czech Republic a fortnight ago.Tellingly thou...
Rooney ready for Sunday
2007-09-20 15:55:00
Sir Alex will be hoping to have a fit and firing Wayne Rooney for Sunday's visit to Chelsea after the striker completed 72 minutes during the Reds' 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. It was the 21-year-old striker's first outing since the first day of the season against Reading, where he suffered a fractured metatarsal following a challenge from Michael Duberry.Playing the lone striker role was demanding for the Reds front man, and as such Cristiano Ronaldo's goal allowed Sir Alex to take him off with Sunday's visit of Chelsea in mind."It was difficult for Wayne, having to play up front on his own," admitted the boss."We had to decide how long we kept him on the pitch, but as soon as we scored I decided it was time to get Louis Saha ready," he added. "Wayne will be better for his minutes on the clock and I'm sure he'll be ready for Sunday."Source: ManUtd.com
Ferguson: Rooney led Ronaldo peace talks
2007-09-07 09:19:00
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed how Wayne Rooney led the move to make peace with Cristiano Ronaldo after their World Cup blow-up last year.He told an audience in Glasgow: "Wayne phoned me on the day of the World Cup final and said he had a great idea. He suggested he could do a TV interview with Ronaldo and they could show everything was fine. I thought it would look stage-managed and said no."Instead David Gill and I flew to Portugal to meet Ronaldo. We told him we'd had a similar experience with David Beckham [after France 98]. Ronaldo was concerned but not afraid [about coming back]. We said we'd put extra security on his house. He said he'd try it and see how it went. It's been no bother."Source: tribalfootball.com
Sir Alex Ferguson... A hubby??
2007-08-10 14:25:00
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!You know who is this guy??This is Sir Alex Ferguson, the current manager of the Barclays English Premier League Champions,Manchester UnitedThis is an interesting newspaper article from a local newspaper about Sir Alex's private life.Wife grounds Fergie over pre-season friendlies.LONDON - Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been ruled out of attending Manchester United's two pre-season friendlies yesterday - by his wife, Cathy. While the Premier League champions have teams in action at Glentoran in Belfast and Dunfermline in Scotland, their manager has a house move to organise, according to British media."I told her I had a match that day, but she wasn't having any of that.""She said it was only a friendly and that I had to help her," Ferguson was quoted as saying.Awwwwwww.... The most famous manager of all time, the one who relentlessly gave the 'hairdryer' treatment to players who don't perform as expected of them. What's a hairdryer treatment...
Sir Alex: This is Rooney's year
2007-07-27 19:50:00
Wayne Rooney has been tipped to have a "great season" next year after his first uninterrupted pre-season with the Reds since joining in 2004.Rooney finished up as United's joint-top goalscorer last term, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo with 23 goals. It followed a run of 11 goals in 16 games in the final three months of a campaign which began with some questioning his form. But, according to Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson, the 21-year-old striker will benefit immeasurably from the freshness of having a rare close-season rest and full preparatory work ahead of the new campaign."He just loves football and loves training and he will be a big player next year, believe me," Sir Alex told The Sun."He will have a great season, because he's had a proper pre-season for the first time with us. He will be fine. Nothing bothers Wayne. He is incredible, a very strong character."Rooney's insatiable hunger for football has left a lasting impression on the United boss, who describes the forward's appet...

Rooney: I'll win Sir Alex bet
2007-04-30 19:23:00
Sir Alex Ferguson could be out of pocket for the second time this season if Wayne Rooney can win his bet with the Reds boss.Cristiano Ronaldo has already won his wager with Sir Alex after surpassing the 15-goal mark earlier in the campaign. The Portuguese winger has lost several bets with the manager in recent seasons, but won this season. And now Rooney is looking to take more cash off Sir Alex."People have criticised me for not scoring enough, and it does bother me when I'm not hitting the back of the net," Rooney admitted recently. The critiscism is almost dumbfounding when you consider that - by trade, a support striker - he is United's top scorer with 23 goals already this season, and can lay claim to being the team's highest assist-maker."I'm on a nice little run and hopefully I can keep it going and win the bet I've had with the manager," he adds. "There's not a lot of money involved, but it's a nice little incentive. The most important thing is that the team keeps winn...
Fergie calls on Moyes to end Rooney action
2007-04-28 10:30:00
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has pleaded with Everton boss David Moyes to call off his legal row with Wayne Rooney.Moyes has launched proceedings against Rooney over comments the England striker made about his former manager in his autobiography Wayne Rooney - My Life So Far.The Everton manager claims Rooney alleged he had betrayed the player's trust and confidence by leaking sensitive personal information to the press. The Scot felt so angered at the allegations, which he believes injured his professional and personal reputation, and caused him serious embarrassment and distress, he decided to pursue the matter with the courts and launched formal proceedings last week.As it presently stands there appears no likelihood of either party backing down. However, Ferguson is hoping the matter can be sorted out quickly."I am not sure where it stands at the moment but it is not nice to read about it," he said."I am sure David Moyes will be getting proper legal advice I am sur...
Boss backs star duo
2007-04-04 11:19:00
Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo to come up with the goods for United in Europe.Surprisingly given his league form this term, Ronaldo is yet to find the net in the Champions League for the Reds, while Rooney hasn?t scored since his debut hat-trick against Fenerbahce in September 2004.But Sir Alex isn?t concerned by the statistics because of their contribution to the team. But he would dearly hope the two can change their respective records at Stadio Olimpico tonight when the Reds face AS Roma.?We haven?t scored a lot of goals in Europe in the last few years,? he said. ?Maybe it's just young players adapting to the Champions League.?Sometimes Wayne?s overall contribution gets overlooked. We?re certainly not concerned, his form has been very good. He has created so many openings in matches, not just for himself, for the rest of the team.?And, at the moment, I think Ronaldo is the best player in the world. His form this season has been fantastic.?Every t...
