Sky Blue Sky is mellow, moody, and uncharacteristically monotone, opening with a pleasant jangle and Jeff Tweedy singing a simple song: "Maybe the sun will shine today, the clouds will blow away." He doesn't even follow it up with a barbed punchline. Could it be that the restless Chicago band has settled back into its gentle Americana roots--or does this sudden mid-career reappraisal represent Wilco's gutsiest move yet? 2007-03-08 04:37:02 The tracks have been leaked and the blogosphere has mixed reviews. I’m loving it so far. If you’re expecting them to push the boundaries and experiment like on A Ghost is Born, you may be disappointed. If you’re like me, then Summerteeth is the album that wears out your iPod and these songs will be right up your alley. I followed the blogs from Each Note Secure to Idolator who published some of the mixed reviews, including one from Wolf Notes who listened to two tracks and called Wilco’s latest effort “Randy Newman horse shit.” His big gripe is that they aren’t “expanding their sound.” I’m all for musicians experimenting and taking their sound to new heights, but all that guitar distortion gets exhausting. After A Ghost is Born, I’m looking forward to good songwriting and solid guitar work from Nels Cline that I don’t have to think much about. I’m sure I’ll get what I’m looking for and it w...
