Common & Karriem Riggins Peform ?Thelonius? Live (Video)
2008-05-08 19:57:00
Definitely one of my favorite Slum Villa and Com Sense joints of all time. Now what some folks might not be aware of, is that this joint was released on both classic albums “Like Water For Chocolate” & “Fantastic Vol. 2” in 00′, but the track was so funky that it fit appropriately on both ...
Talkin? Videos: Monday Mayhem: Guru and Slum Village Get ?Jazzy?, This 6 Ye
2007-10-29 16:00:00
Wake up, G-ddamnit!! Hope everybody got some big things poppin? and all that goodness this past weekend. I definitely did, but I won?t get into that because I know y?all maw?fuggas don?t care. Well, for today, I?m going to let you guys know from JUMP that Monday, October 29, will be a Breezy's Off Her Rag Day. That?s only because y?all swear I can?t write a post without sh*ttin? on somebody, and that?s not true. I sh*t where sh*t is due, and those of y?all who keep it 100 should know that (oh, and by the way, PLEASE stop with the ?you?re on 50's payroll? comments... that?s just WACK). But today, every person responsible for each of these videos deserves their shine, so I?m definitely giving props all around. So, to start off things here, I?m throw this new joint from Guru featuring Slum Village on here. It?s called ?I?m Jazzy,? off of the Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 joint. I didn?t put this up here to critique the video, I posted it because this track is tight. But don?t listen...

(Random Banger #38) Slum Village - ?Forth & Back (Rock Music)?
2007-07-27 20:59:00
This joint ‘Forth & Back’ has been stuck in my mind all day, this beat is just too ill, and even though J Dilla’s recent work with his experimenting and what not was still dope, none of his new stuff can compare to his late-ninties sound. So what y’all know about that “Fan-Tas-Tic, Vol. 1“? ...

If Detroit Rappers were the Wu-Tang Clan
2007-06-29 18:37:00
Despite some obvious similarities to the Wu-tang Clan, D12 really didn’t warrant comparison to the 9 man strong team as individuals. If Detroit emcees were to band together and do a Wu tribute album (purely hypothetical) or form a parallel version of the group, this is how they would form together (like Voltron!). RZA - ...
(Random Banger #32) Slum Village - ?La La?
2007-06-27 20:26:00
“Its like I stay at constant war with these wack n*ggas…” (I feel you El) This one of the few Slum Village songs, (minus J Dilla) that I really digged after the brotha split and went solo. But you know ‘La La’ is off of “The Trinity” album and Baatin was still with them at the ...
(Random Banger # 26) Slum Village - ?Get Dis Money?
2007-06-09 23:19:00
The entire Slum Village album - “Fantastic volume #2” is worthy of Random Bangerness (Yea, its made up…), so thats what i’ll do, one song at a time. I wouldn’t want to overwhelm those who haven’t heard it before. ‘Get this money’ is my official soundtrack for money motivation, you can’t not want to hustle after ...

Slum Village: Past, Present and Future

Rob Simonsen of the Portland Mercury takes a quick look at Slum Village’s past, present and future in this report. He has a dim view of the duo after Dilla. Nowadays, Slum Village seems outdated. The case against WJLB
2007-05-03 21:10:00
A 6 year old article by Jacarl Melton detailing “The Case against WJLB”. It could have very well been written about today’s FM 98, yesterdays 105.9 Jamz, or todays Hot 102.7. The claims of “We are Hip Hop” or “Detroit’s station for hip hop and R&B” don’t really ring true when our most successful artists don’t ...

Slum Village and Chevy team-up to produce child safety video
2007-02-28 23:18:04
It might seem like Slum Village have been out of the spotlight for a good minute but you can be sure that thats not the case. SV is known to always be on the move tour wise in North America or Europe but lesser known is their involvement with General Motors. SV and General Motors came to an agreement before the release of the “Slum Village” album to cross-promote their products. Radio and television commercials featuring SV’s “Ez Up” were playing in Detroit and elsewhere as a part of GM’s “American Revolution” campaign. Elzhi and T3 have once again been recruited by the hometown folks at GM to produce a child safety song and video for Chevorlet/Chevy. According to the article the song and video will be made available through a cd and downloads distributed by Safe Kids Worldwide.
