The Cloverfield Hype... and Slusho
2008-01-20 10:08:00 Web-savvy movie lovers have been buzzing about Cloverfield for months, thanks to a viral marketing strategy-meets-alternate-realit-y game.Starting in early July 2007, a mysterious movie trailer began showing in theaters nationwide during screenings of Transformers. The film, which opens today, had no name, but the trailer was stamped with a date of 01-18-08 and said it was produced by J.J. Abrams, of the TV show Lost. The curious headed online to try to track down information about the film.Under Abrams' filmography on the Web site imdb.com, a clue was discovered — a listing for a project titled Clover, aka the Untitled J.J. Abrams Project, with a synopsis: "a giant monster movie (referred internally as The Parasite) which is shot using home video cameras from the point of view of real people who are experiencing the attack on New York City."Followers of the movie-to-be debated what the monster could be. Was it the return of Godzilla or Voltron? Leviathan? Or a new monster?Message ...

Slusho Unrelated to Cloverfield?! Possible JJ Abrams Side Project? - SendMe
2007-12-11 01:10:00 Slusho Unrelated to Cloverfield?! Possible JJ Abrams Side Project? All this Cloverfield viral marketing has got me wondering. I have now talked to four people who have seen an early cut of Cloverfield. I haven’t heard one negative so far, although everyone is very reluctant to share any details about the film. But I have been able to confirm something that I have believed all along - Slusho! has almost nothing to do with Cloverfield! Yes, Paramount and Bad Robot are using Slusho! to promote Cloverfield. I’m not suggesting otherwise. Slusho! branded T-shirts were even handed out at the Paramount panel during Comic Con 2007 (where Cloverfield made a brief appearance). What I’m here to tell you today is that Slusho! has very little to do with the plot of the movie, and only makes a brief appearance on the t-shirt of one of the characters. I'm being told that is pretty much the extent of it. So the question now becomes: How did a JJ Abrams inside joke become the foc...

Slusho! Video Contest - Fan Commercials
2007-12-06 05:57:00 Movie Review I posted a bunch of Cloverfield updates on my Cloverfield blog. However, the below Slusho! video is so goofy I thought I'd share it here too. It's a sample commercial for a contest you can enter at the Slusho! site. If you make a good enough commercial for them, you could win a prize. <!--embed src="http://www.slusho.jp/video-player/videoplayer.swf?MOVIE_UR-L=http://
1-18-08 -New Cloverfield Photo / Clue - J.J. Abrams' Slusho Movie
2007-07-29 20:48:00 Ok. Here's yet another clue for the upcoming but still officially untitled "Cloverfield" monster movie due for release 1-18-08. It's the fifth photo in the moving set of what's becoming a mess over at the 1-18-08.com website. It's more cryptic than the fourth Cloverfield clue , which had a military guy holding a gun, indicating something big was -- litterally -- up.
1-18-08 -New Cloverfield Clues - J.J. Abrams' Slusho Movie
2007-07-21 23:59:00 Or whatever the heck it's called. I just know that there's a new photo up at the 1-18-08 website. It's time is noted as 1:24 AM. So there's a pattern -- a story pattern developing here. More info here.
Cloverfield Clues - Cloverfield and Slusho - So What?
2007-07-16 18:59:00 Ok, I'm going to go on a small rant regarding these clue seekers who are so myopic in their focus they can't tell a product placement from a clue.First, Slusho is a product. Yes, it appeared in Alias. Yes, it's logo is seen on someone's t-shirt in the Cloverfield trailer . But does this make it a clue? Hell no!The definition of a Clue is "Something that serves to guide or direct in the solution of a problem or mystery." So how does a website called Slusho lead is to the solution of the mystery of what this film's about? Answer? It doesn't. It's a way of Slusho benefiting from this viral marketing campaign. Period. Indeed, they may have paid a fee for this or at the least provided cast and crew with tons of Slusho drinks on the set. But that's it. |
