Snack time during children's games?
2010-06-15 16:09:00
Why does the snack time for children's sports exist? I find this a humorous and stressful task.  No matter what sports young children are involved in, parents are usually required to bring snacks at least one time throughout the season.  This task has been the plot of numerous television shows including the comedy, Everybody Loves Raymond.  Don't the parents find it stressful? You can't remember if it's "your" week to bring the snacks.  Then you're rushing around to the store just to get the snacks.  And of course they have to be something that can be easily eaten.  So we're talking some popular items are goldfish, maybe apples, juice boxes, granola bars, etc. (these are just things that I've seen). ...

Snack at Joe's
2010-04-15 13:00:00
Thank you Joe for providing me with a respite from the mundane task of providing nourishment for my family. I have fallen in love with the stationary pirate ship otherwise known as Trader Joe's.  The atmosphere of ringing bells, brown paper bags and Hawaiian shirts makes you feel like you're doing something adventurous instead of the ever tedious grocery shopping.Trader Joe's actually makes it easy for me to avoid the things I never allow into any of our bodies, such as Non-GMO Ingredients.  Which is non genetically modified ingredients.  They've made a commitment not to participate in this Weird Science. The other two things we try to never buy are partially hydrogenated oils and/or high fructose corn syrup.  I don't know if...

by Jeriah HildwinePhotographs by Stephanie BurkeThis weekend's iteration of the Artists And Residents series laid out an impressive array of snacks. One may debate at great length whether Chicago's art scene is truly world class, and if you talk long enough you might even find someone to listen to you.  Chicago may be lacking when it comes to blue chip galleries, rock star curators, and teenage millionaire art stars, but say what you will, one cannot deny that there's a lot going on in the city.  Take this weekend, for instance:  from Second Fridays in Pilsen and beyond, to Saturday receptions at HungryMan and Concertina, we've had our metaphorical plates full with art, and our literal plates full of snacks. ...

So, I got on the plane with a belly full of enchiladas and a purse full of snacks for the flight.  After we took off, I opened up a can of cashews, and shared a few handfuls with the woman sitting next to me.  She was a really nice lady from Belgium, and was super patient answering all my stupid questions about her country.  A bit longer into the flight and I busted out my burrito.  El Allegre makes my favorite veggie burrito in Chicago.  Needless to say, about an hour into the flight, I was pretty well stuffed...and then the dinner carts started rolling out!I had a meat lasagna, I know there was another option but I don't remember...
