Snyder, now 30 years old, was the seventh overall pick by the Royals in the 1999 draft. He was tolerable as a middle reliever for the Red Sox last year, though his control was poor. He had two labrum surgeries in '03 and '04, and that injury reoccurred in '05. The Royals designated him the following year, and the Sox claimed him off waivers. Though the team did not make an official announcement after Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays, Kyle Snyder confirmed that he will be designated for assignment the Boston Globe reported. The Red Sox, who originally claimed Snyder off waivers from the Royals in June 2006, will have 10 days to make a move with the pitcher, either by trading him or waiting for him to clear waivers, at which time he could accept a trip to Triple A. He could not be sent directly to the minors because he is out of options.Snyder's two outings this season did not go well. He pitched a third of an inning yesterday, walking the first two batters he faced; Bryan Corey allowed both runners to score. Snyder is out of options and hence cannot be sent down to Pawtucket. Snyder has not impressed in 2008. Today versus Toronto, he pitched a third of an inning, gave up two runs, and walked two. March 25 in Oakland, he gave up two runs on two hits, including a solo home run. He wasn't terrible in 2007, posting a career-best 3.81 ERA, but the Red Sox still preferred Eric Gagne over the 6'8" righty for their postseason roster. He's starting to get some more attention after a great spring, especially now that the job will be his full-time to start the season with Miguel Montero injured. He is 27 and had 13 homers and 47 RBIs in just 326 at-bats last year. Snyder had a great second half hitting .291 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. If you pass on catchers early, Snyder is a good late-round pick.

Snyder rumored in talks for WTEM, WTNT, WWRC
2008-01-15 11:17:00 DCRTV reports a rumor this morning that the Dan Snyder-owned Red Zebra Broadcasting is in talks to buy the Clear Channel Washington-owned AM radio stations, WTEM 980 (a.k.a. SportsTalk 980), WTNT 570 and WWRC 1260. WTEM currently offers a competing sports talk format against Snyder's own Redskins Radio, one that would likely be consolidated or merged by any purchase.More importantly from my standpoint, the purchase would likely consolidate the radio broadcast rights to many local & regional teams under one ownership umbrella. Clear Channel Washington now holds the D.C. radio rights to the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Baltimore Orioles, five collegiate teams (the Georgetown Hoyas, George Mason Patriots, Virginia Cavaliers, American Eagles and Notre Dame Fighting Irish) and Westwood One's NFL football & NCAA basketball coverage. ----Redskins Radio (WWXX/94.3, WWXT/92.7 & WXTR/730) already holds the local radio broadcast rights to the Washington Redskins, Virginia Tech Ho...
