Socialism

Cap and trade, freedom, and the collapse of our nation.
2008-06-04 04:23:00
America is in danger of collapse and I don’t say this lightly. I have believed in the exceptionalism of America for as long as I could understand what that meant. Five years ago, I would have told you that our economy will recover, that times will get better, and that freedom will prevail, but now I ...
Justice Earl Warren on social progress vs socialism
2008-05-14 05:28:00
Many people consider the things which government does for them to be social progress, but they consider the things government does for others to be socialism. That describes current attitudes perfectly, doesn't it? Still I must be aware the beam in my own eye while complaining over the mote in yours! (a beam being a board of wood and a mote being a mere speck.) Justice Earl Warren was born
Could Bob Barr be the last best hope of conservatism?
2008-05-13 05:02:00
McCain’s latest comments about implementing tariffs against China and other countries for their “carbon footprint” should be a warning flag for the nation’s true conservatives. Liberal Democrats and Republicans have participated in live-for-the-moment economic policies that rival the “money handout” campaigns by Juan and Eva Peron Those policies eventually crippled the Argentinian economy. McCain’s economic and ...
A Reminder That European Democracy Is Something Of A Myth
2008-04-25 13:15:00
In America, we think of historical Europe as a place were voiceless mastered were ruled by high-handed aristocrats. We assume that those days are over, wiped away by war, revolution, and the simple passage of time. The European Union, however, periodically provides timely reminders that Europe is still ruled by high-handed authoritarian figures who ignore ...

At Least Marx Had Integrity
2008-04-22 12:15:00
An EARTH DAY SPECIAL from Churchill’s Parrot blog Granted Karl Marx was a bitter, self-loathing, misanthrope, half-crazed with envy and his own depraved world view, but at least he had integrity.  When advocating the implementation of his beloved communism, for instance, he made no attempt to sugar coat what would be required: ?The proletariat will use its ...
Bank Socialism
2008-04-20 00:41:00
In this age of bail-outs of investment banks by the Federal Reserve, because the banks got too highly leveraged in credit default swaps and other "structured" investments, we are looking at a house of cards. If you want to look after your own true self-interest, get into gold, but do not trust a bank or dealer to hold it for you or keep it at home. Big Brother confiscated it from people once before, in 1933. They could do it again, and the safekeeping of even foreign gold vaults could be without a real guarantee. read more
Obama?s Father and Socialism
2008-04-15 23:31:00
Some on the right have been trying to fabricate a case that Barack Obama is a socialist–which is quite far fetched considering that much of his economic advice comes from the University of Chicago. With that ridiculous argument not taking hold, some have turned to trying to prove that his father was a socialist. Some ...
So Is THIS Socialism?
2008-04-11 22:59:00
by Nathan McIntyreFor those of you thinking I've been a little paranoid lately over a President Obama, check out this little snip from Mark Rose (courtesy of TennesseeFree.com). Enjoy, er, shudder."Barack Obama has written in his autobiography that he organized his life around the ideals imparted by his Kenyan father, Barak H. Obama, a Harvard-trained economist. So what were those ideals?PrestoPundit has found a 1965 paper written by Obama's father, in which he advocates:- 100% taxation- communal farms / the elimination of private farming- the nationalization of businesses owned by "Europeans" and "Asians".- "active" measures to bring about a classless society Yikes! This is right out of Marxism/Leninism. It's not watered-down socialism. It IS socialism -- in its purest form."So is Obama a socialist?
Liberal Double Talk: Patriotism-Love of country or love of socialism
2008-04-09 20:26:00
I read Joe Klein's article on Barack Obama's "patriotism problem" and heard Michael Medved interview Eric Liu, the writer of a short book on progressive patriotism. Klein and Liu make the case that liberals can be as patriotic as conservatives, which is fine. What's laughable is their insistence that progressives are the truer patriots. Their reasoning: 1. True patriots want what's best for their country and their fellow Americans and support policies that help Americans as a whole instead of just oneself or one group. Additionally, true patriots show appreciation for what the government has given them. 2. Government is good. Leftist policies help Americans, offering opportunities that Americans wouldn't otherwise have. Wealthy people disproportionately benefit from government (have more to appreciate). 3. Therefore, a true patriot votes for bigger government and progressive taxation. Right. As if people were less patriotic before the Johnson administration. The above art...
A Free Market In Healthcare?
2008-04-07 23:31:00
No doubt Doctors will try to quash this. . . From Crain's: Retail health clinics have made their way into metro Detroit and are competing with doctors' offices for routine patient visits. Clinics contend that the quality of care is high and that when a patient requires urgent care or a visit to a physician's office, the process is seamless, said May Hang, manager of operations in Detroit for... When did congress replace the courts?
2008-04-03 05:25:00
This week, two major “trials” took place in the Democrat controlled United States congress. First of all, Oil company executives were put on trial. One after the other, congressmen and women took cheap shots at the oil companies. They claimed the oil companies unjustly gained profits and are not helping their competitors enough. Another “trial” will take ...

Barack Obama?s Church - Political Hate Speech
2008-03-14 21:02:00
Barack Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, has been scrutinized a lot lately for his political activism from the pulpit. The IRS has been investigating his church (Trinity United Church of Christ) for being used as a political advocacy group rather than a place of worship. The IRS could pull the church’s tax exempt status, but this is ...

More Attacks by Left Wing Radicals Go Uncriticized
2008-03-08 06:05:00
In the past week, there have been two terrorist attacks by radical left wing groups in the United States. While neither caused injuries to people, both seemed to be designed to terrorize and intimidate those who don’t submit to the leftist agenda. On Monday, three luxury “green” homes were set ablaze with explosive devices in a ...

Hillary Clinton Sides with Socialism over Chelsea
2008-02-21 00:43:00
Hillary Clinton just came out recently claiming that wealthy investment bankers and hedge fund managers on Wall Street aren't doing real ?work.? Yes, Chelsea Clinton works for Avenue Capital Group, a New York based Hedge Fund Company. Apparently,... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.

Chavez?s 21st Century National Socialism
2008-02-01 06:31:00
Hugo Chavez has long vowed to turn Venezuela into a laboratory for ?21st century socialism.? But if the latest bully-boy tactics of the Chavez government are any guide, the better name for his platform might be 21st century National Socialism. Most telling in this regard are the ruling regime?s rapidly deteriorating relations with Venezuela?s Jewish community. ...
Private Philanthropy is Bad for Socialism
2008-01-28 00:00:00
-By Thomas E. Brewton The New York Times is distressed that private philanthropists can give money to any charity they choose. The flip side of American private largess is the stinginess ...
Venezuela's Chavez: Socialism still our goal
2008-01-22 14:23:00
by Bolivia Rising (Federico Fuentes) A collective discussion is occurring throughout the revolutionary movement led by President Hugo Chavez following the defeat of the proposed constitutional reforms — that were intended to deepen the revolution to help open the way towards socialism — in the December 2 referendum. Defeated by the narrowest of margins, the result took both sides by surprise. A cocky Chavista camp that had won 11 straight election victories was sent into a tailspin. The US-backed pro-capitalist opposition was forced to think up a new strategy, as the next stage in its well-orchestrated destabilisation campaign — taking to the streets against supposed electoral fraud — had to be postponed after Chavez graciously accepted defeat. "For now we couldn't do it!" explained Chavez in his concession speech. Discussion and debate has exploded as the battalions of the new United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) — initiated by Chavez to unite the grass roots ...

What socialism smells like
2008-01-16 00:04:00
Apparently, it mixes Mediterranean herbs and fruits such as Bergamot orange and white tea with base notes from the Orient, which come together to produced [sic] an aroma of "confidence, equality, progress and efficiency". Oddly, it also smells a little like air freshener. One journalist at the press conference said the smell was so strong that he was practically overwhelmed and left feeling faint. ? the Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) launches their own perfume. City-wide Wifi: Good idea or creeping socialism?
2008-01-15 09:00:00
As you read this, I'm savoring the world-class delicacies of the Maywood Denny's. Why did I choose Denny's over Norm's or any of the other fine dining establishments in the area? You're thinking: "It's the food, stupid." You're wrong. It's the free wi-fi, idiot (I don't mean to be insulting, but you started it.). The city of Maywood provides "free" wifi access along its main thoroughfare, Slauson Avenue. I'm usually against the government doing things for people that they can do for themselves (read here), but, in this case, I have to make an exception. It's a great idea! First, I'm here, right. Think of city-funded wi-fi as fancy lamp posts or nice landscaping- an investment that makes the city more attractive to businesses and their potential customers. Second, it's local. If the city residents want free wi-fi, it's their choice. If they don't like it, they can move to Huntington Park or Bell. Third, since it's on the main street, unless you're a pers...

Venezuela: Highest Inflation in South America plus Food Shortages

The result of socialism
2007-12-23 00:57:00
Steven Taylor at OTB: Via the LAT: Grim tales from Zimbabwe Life here is full of Catch-22 dilemmas that would strain credulity if they were fiction: It costs more to go to work than you can possibly earn, for example. There is no economy to speak of, either, just the black market, where even the government gets its dollars. And hospitals, like the one where Junica Dube was giving birth, with no medicines and little staff, are places of death, not life.[…] The stores are so empty that the government statistician says it’s impossible to work out the inflation rate. (Independent economists estimate that it is between 40,000% and 90,000%.) Given the depth of the economic crisis, it’s difficult to see how anything works. A journalist more than doubles his salary by making candles on weekends. A Reserve Bank employee buys and slaughters cows on the side. A sign writer sells sandwiches cobbled out of difficult-to-come-by bread. Teachers, who can go to South Africa with no visa, bring...

gucci + lv = socialism?
2007-12-20 07:13:00
I am feeling a little political today as you can see...Below is a video of a Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno (it is in spanish). Basically, he is attacking capitalism while wearing Gucci shoes and a Louis Vuitton tie. A journalist interrupts his speech and asks if it was not contradictory to criticize capitalism while wearing luxury goods. *awkward*He is at a lost for words for a moment - "I don't, uh ... I ... of course" and then tries to recover by saying - "It's not contradictory because I would like Venezuela to produce all this so I could buy stuff produced here instead of 95 percent of what we consume being imported." ummm...right.I mean seriously! If you are going to make a public speech, make sure you are not wearing something that is directly opposite of what you are talking about. It is like me showing up at a PETA meeting dressed in all leather. Socialism/communism might work on paper, but this is a prime example of why it doesn't in reality - someone has to...

Chavez Asks Vote for Socialism
2007-12-02 15:46:00
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is facing his toughest challenge in years as voters decide whether to approve constitutional changes in a referendum. The raft of reforms includes allowing abolishing presidential term limits and ending the Central Bank's autonomy. Mr Chavez says the proposed changes would return power to the people, but opponents accuse him of a power grab. On Saturday, President Chavez repeated a threat to stop oil supplies to the US if it tried to disrupt the ballot. Mr Chavez has warned that his opponents could try to sabotage the vote, with backing from Washington, through violent protests. At a news conference, he said: "In the case of an aggression by the US government, we wouldn't send any more oil to that country. Forget about our oil." Opec member Venezuela currently exports about 60% of its oil to the United States - a trade worth an estimated $37bn (£18.5bn) a year.
