Representative Tom Harkin: The G.O.P. Curb The Socialism, I?ll Curb My ?Enthusiasm?
2009-09-21 05:35:00
Despite the major disadvantages of scant “conservative” representation in Washington DC, a rudderless Republican Party adrift on a sea of uncertainty and legislative and executive branches of government that are no longer even accountable to the concerns of those they once represented, conservative principles are not simply resisting the bloodless, socialist coup taking place in this country, they’re kicking ass ...
Competition is the New Socialism
2009-09-04 10:50:00
While it’s not related to what I prefer to talk about – birds, biology, science – the health insurance reform debate raging in American politics is something that I have been following very closely. And one of the things that strikes me is the shrill screaming by those referring to themselves as Libertarians, about how ...
Obama-Joker: Fascism-New World Order-Socialism
2009-08-14 16:17:00
Many contest entries have been submitted to Alex Jones; the torrent of Obama-Joker posters put up around the globe is very inspiring. I’m going to post a few of what I personally view as the best video entries here in this post, as I discover them. Here is the first one, filmed in ...
ObamaCare and socialism aren't the enemies
2009-08-12 20:17:00
Town hall meetings have turned into yelling matches as Americans are squaring off on universal healthcare's advantages and disadvantages. Let's make it plain. If you have good health care, keep it. If you don't, then you better put on your socialist hat. With 1,737,900  Illinois residents currently n-ot having health insurance, a socialist approach may be the answer. Here's my cancer survival photo after surgery on my aorta. Thank God for good insurance, because without it, I wouldn't be blogging now. See parent of Blue Cross Illinois job cuts. Garrard McClendon after surgery in 2003. There are 565,800 Illinois residents who currently purchase insurance in the individual insurance market. If 1.7 million don't have insurance, where will they get their care and how will...
Hugo Chavez Calls Obama To Socialism
2009-03-07 16:00:00
Via Drudge:Caracas - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday called upon US President Barack Obama to follow the path to socialism, which he termed as the "only" way out of the global recession. "Come with us, align yourself, come with us on the road to socialism. This is the only path. Imagine a socialist revolution in the United States," Chavez told a group of workers in the southern Venezuelan state of Bolivar. The controversial Venezuelan leader, who taunted the United States as a source of capitalistic evil under former president George W Bush, added that the United States needs a leader who can take it to a "higher" destiny and bring it out of "the sad role that it has been given, as a murderous, attacking power that is hated all around the world."Chavez said that people are calling Obama a "socialist" for the measures of state intervention he is taking to counter the crisis, so it would not be too far-fetched to suggest that he might join the project of "21st century social...
On Socialism and Dave Ramsey - Pt 1
2009-03-06 13:58:00
On of my all time favorite podcasts regarding finance, saving money, and just "good - smart" ideas is by far the Dave Ramsey Show (http://www.daveramsey.com). Dave Ramsey continues to impress me with his "common sense" advice for getting out of debt and bulding wealth, his free podcast you can listen to his ideas from his radio program, as well as go to his site and find many tips, guides, books, and lessons (including the Total Money Make Over) that will help you get ahead in life. The only smal critism, I would have - Dave likes to somestimes get up on his soapbox (it is his show afterall) and talk about the 'evils' of socialism, in particular he is talking about government control over our lives. In this podlet, I dicuss some basic ideas / misconceptions and the "philosophy of socialism" as an economic model. I'm not talking about so-called failed implementations of socialism and cases where governments hold power and don't give it up. Back t...
Ok?Socialism yet?
2009-02-05 13:00:00
When many folks saw my “Got Socialism” stickers back during the campaign they were confused. I’ve now come to understand why. I truly believe that folks today have no problem with socialism because we’re so far removed from the Communist threat that many simply don’t know how evil the Socialist mindset can be. Is this socialism? Obama ...

If the world were so organised that everything has to be fair, no living creature could survive for a day. The birds would be forbidden to eat worms, and everyone's self-interest would have to be served. We have so many people who can't see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion that the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one!We disapprove of state education. Then the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a state religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a state-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. And so on, and so on. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise grain. --Frederic Bastiat, 1850What then, is the common denominator to which all forms of socialism are reducible, and what is the bond that unites them against natural society, or society as planned by Providenc...

European "Socialists" Agree To Drive Bluefin Tuna Extinct
2008-11-29 06:00:00
Updated November 29:Environmentalists who insist that socialism or social democracy will save the environment have always worried me. Canada's been ruled by social democrats for a long time, and it's horrible on environmental issues.Interestingly, the radical rightwing US Bush regime proposed a reduced quota to keep the bluefin tuna from going extinct, and the far rightwing governments of Guatemala and Panama amazingly agreed to it.So who shot it down? A bunch of "socialists" in Europe, in particular the leftwing Spanish government. Looks like the Arab governments of Mediterranean (presumably including "socialist" Ghaddafi and the Socialists in Algeria) are the ones who really shot it down. 90% of the remaining stocks are in the Mediterranean. On the European side, the criminals were Spain, Italy and probably France. The impetus? Protect the local fishing trade, which is big money. But once the bluefins go extinct, and they will under this plan, the amount of money the industry wil...

2001 Obama Interview: Wanted Socialism, to Break Free of Constitution
2008-10-27 18:51:00
-By Warner Todd Huston In an interview with Chicago’s WBEZ radio in 2001, Barack Obama laid out his true socialist desires. Do Americans Understand What Socialism Is?

Duiguid points to several historical examples to support his claim: “J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from 1924 to 1972, used ...
Great Video About Socialism

The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.Updated October 24:This is a video of a lecture by Richard D Wolff, Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, on the latest economic chaos and recession in sweeping the world.Wolff is a Marxist, and the lecture is from a Marxist POV. However, it is interesting in many ways. One thing that is clear to most sensible folks with an understanding of economics is that Marx's analysis of capitalism is one of the greatest ever done by anyone. For a long time, it was taught in all economics departments. With the advent of crazy Friedmanite neoliberalism in the past 30 years or so, Marx may not be being taught so much, but that's a mistake. It's sometimes said that Marx is great for analyzing either what capitalism does well or poorly, but not the opposite. Not true. Marx is great for analyzing capitalism both when it is doing ...

East Germans Getting Nostalgic For Socialism
2008-10-19 03:08:00
Although there were reportedly some serious problems with East German socialism (the Trabant, the ubiquitous vehicle, was a piece of junk), with the recent chaos in world capitalism, many East Germans are now saying that they would rather have socialism than capitalism. A recent survey found that 53% felt that the free market was "unsuitable" and 43% said that they wanted a socialist system rather than a capitalist one.Sales of Marx's Das Kapital have tripled since last year and increased 100X since 1990, although sales as a whole remain low. The publisher expressed amazement and said that he never thought the book would sell well again. He said that even bankers and managers are reading it to try to figure out what's going in with the turmoil in capitalist economics. The switch from socialism to capitalism has not worked out very well in the East. Unemployment and poverty are very high. The outskirts of Berlin, Leipzig and the Baltic shore and doing well, but the rest of the regio...
Is 'spread the wealth' same as socialism?
2008-10-19 01:48:00
Charges are mulitplying by McCain and his surrogates that Barack Obama's tax proposals and other economic ideas are 'socialist' in nature. Well, it's true that the phrase "spread the wealth" never goes over well with the richest class, and I can think of no better reason than this: if spreading or sharing actually occurred, half a million or so of their dollars might be used to feed the hungry, bind the wounds of the ill and dying, and comfort an orphan or a foster child or two. Why, a factory might be built and a few jobs created - and after the corporate elite worked so hard to ship our jobs overseas, too!So apparently, if there's one thing a rich man can't stand, it's being his brother's keeper by giving back a little of the largesse he receives through the laws of this great nation and from the sweat of the common worker's brow. Never mind that a rich man has money and legal reps to avoid paying taxes which he rightly should have been paying all along. Plus, they didn't...

William Greider on Goldman Sachs Socialism

Goldman Sachs Socialism By William Greider Wall Street put a gun to the head of the politicians and said, Give us the money--right now--or take the blame for whatever follows. Bush Administration Adopts Socialism
2008-09-07 22:37:00
The government just seized control of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. I guess some on the Left might be complaining about this. Surely there will be squeals on the Libertarian Right, but that's to be expected.I'm not that good at economics, so I don't know what this precisely bails down to, but my understanding is that this is actually a good idea. It should have been done a while back, but the Bushies dawdled and kept on speaking in free market tongues and handling free market snakes like the cultists most conservatives are these days. What is it with this "market" crap anyway? It reminds of a some Doomsday Koolaid cult. That's right, it's called capitalism."The pure, free market is one of the most evil systems ever designed by mankind." Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776.Smith was actually a very strong advocate of strict state control and regulation of the market in order to prevent this "most evil system". Bet you never knew that, did you? Learn something new here every day.
Socialism On Trial
2008-09-02 09:35:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here. This really is a delightful video. It highlights the fight of the Liverpool Labor Councilors fighting to defend Labor socialism in Liverpool in the mid-1980's during Thatcherism. What I found so heartwarming about it was seeing the majority of the White working class in this city rallying in the streets with red flags and signs saying socialism. Here in the US, that sight is almost incomprehensible. No way will any group of White working class Americans anywhere march in the streets with red flags defending any kind of socialism. The interviews were also very uplifting. These working class Whites defended the Labour Party and its socialist project. Why? Because they lived in a totalitarian Communist state and had to say that? No, because the socialist Labourites on the council had actually been making their lives better in real and tangible way...
Is Semco Socialism?
2008-09-02 00:22:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.Updated September 2:Is this socialism?A Brazilian company, Semco, has adopted an anarcho-syndicalist style of organization and has been growing for decades. Workers hire and fire management and agree on management's salaries. Workers set their own salaries and hours. 25% of profits go back to workers. Workers hire and fire their own. There are no job titles. Every worker gets to see the company's books. It's supposed to be anarcho-syndicalist style of management, but I'm not even sure what anarcho-syndicalism is, even after reading this article.Even if it's not socialism, it sounds like it's a heck of a lot better than what we have. From Monday Memo, a management website. Socialism Wastes Money, Capitalism Wastes Humans
2008-08-31 13:19:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.Updated September 2:There has been a lot of talk, even by socialists, of the profound "wastefulness" inherent in various Communist economic systems. As I'm not an economist, I don't really understand what they are talking about. However, I can give you a few ideas. In recent years, Cuba has revolutionized organic agriculture to where they probably have one of the most highly developed organic ag systems on Earth. For starters, Cuba has more agronomists per capita than anywhere else on Earth. During the Special Period, they were put to word devising organic solutions to problems that were previously solved by industrialized agriculture.Right now, in the intensive organic farming collectives all over Havana, crop yield has reached some of the highest levels on Earth per unit of land. And that's with a 100% organic system. Now, who ever said tha...
Multiculturalism and Socialism: The Odd Couple
2008-08-30 08:14:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.Updated September 2:In the comments section, Scott, who is a White nationalist, discusses the disconnect between multiculturalism and socialism or social democracy.Yes, we do allow White nationalists, even anti-Black ones, on the board, but every time a cute Black woman shows up on the board, we force them to kiss her. On the lips. On penalty of banning. None have left yet. Brown sugar, how come you taste so good? Scott says: Look at the countries that have the highest index of egalitarianism in the West: Iceland, Norway, Sweden (used to have more). The inhabitants are all pretty closely related to one another. I'll spot my sibling $100 cash. It's basically the same thing but in a less dramatic way in such countries, but when other nationalities come in because of the aforementioned ethnostates' welfare system, as seek to take advantage of ...
Demographics Augurs Well For US Socialism
2008-08-15 07:10:00
In the comments section, first psychologist Mort Goldman from The Family Guy, our only celebrity commenter, notes that Scandinavian socialism can never happen in the US because US Whites will oppose being taxed to pay for non-Whites. That's pretty much been the history of the US for the last 28 years or so.But I argue that as Whites decline, and as they become a minority, we can move more towards a Scandinavian model.Uncle Milton, another commenter, says:"I think that when Whites get to be a minority, we can have more of a Scandinavian-style socialist society."Why do you believe the US would have a Scandinavian style socialist society when Whites become a minority in the US..? Why wouldn't it be more like Brazil or Mexico..?Here is my response to this very interesting question posed by Unc:Good question Milton.Minorities here in the US are pretty politically savvy and leftwing. Our society is already much more socialist than Brazil or Mexico and our ruling class is not as White as...
In America, Socialism Is Everywhere
2008-07-27 14:03:00
There seems to be a lot of confusion about what a welfare state really is. A commenter in the comments section who says he supports the free market also supports the welfare state. But the two are antithetical. A free market wants to eliminate all welfare statism, and in a welfare state, there are substantial restrictions on the free market. What the commenter meant was that he supported most of the economy being in private as opposed to state hands.Truth is that a welfare state is socialism in practice. It's a form of socialism often called social democracy. Any state with welfare statism in whatever quantity or quality has some form of social democracy or socialism, no matter how meager. That is why we socialists are happy to say that almost all states on Earth have at least some socialism these days and we predict that clearly, the future of the world will be some form of socialism. All welfare state programs are socialist programs. Any government or public program is a socialist ...
got socialism?

Justice Earl Warren on social progress vs socialism

A Reminder That European Democracy Is Something Of A Myth

Bank Socialism
2008-04-20 00:41:00
In this age of bail-outs of investment banks by the Federal Reserve, because the banks got too highly leveraged in credit default swaps and other "structured" investments, we are looking at a house of cards. If you want to look after your own true self-interest, get into gold, but do not trust a bank or dealer to hold it for you or keep it at home. Big Brother confiscated it from people once before, in 1933. They could do it again, and the safekeeping of even foreign gold vaults could be without a real guarantee. read more
Obama?s Father and Socialism

So Is THIS Socialism?
2008-04-11 22:59:00
by Nathan McIntyreFor those of you thinking I've been a little paranoid lately over a President Obama, check out this little snip from Mark Rose (courtesy of TennesseeFree.com). Enjoy, er, shudder."Barack Obama has written in his autobiography that he organized his life around the ideals imparted by his Kenyan father, Barak H. Obama, a Harvard-trained economist. So what were those ideals?PrestoPundit has found a 1965 paper written by Obama's father, in which he advocates:- 100% taxation- communal farms / the elimination of private farming- the nationalization of businesses owned by "Europeans" and "Asians".- "active" measures to bring about a classless society Yikes! This is right out of Marxism/Leninism. It's not watered-down socialism. It IS socialism -- in its purest form."So is Obama a socialist?
Liberal Double Talk: Patriotism-Love of country or love of socialism
2008-04-09 20:26:00
I read Joe Klein's article on Barack Obama's "patriotism problem" and heard Michael Medved interview Eric Liu, the writer of a short book on progressive patriotism. Klein and Liu make the case that liberals can be as patriotic as conservatives, which is fine. What's laughable is their insistence that progressives are the truer patriots. Their reasoning: 1. True patriots want what's best for their country and their fellow Americans and support policies that help Americans as a whole instead of just oneself or one group. Additionally, true patriots show appreciation for what the government has given them. 2. Government is good. Leftist policies help Americans, offering opportunities that Americans wouldn't otherwise have. Wealthy people disproportionately benefit from government (have more to appreciate). 3. Therefore, a true patriot votes for bigger government and progressive taxation. Right. As if people were less patriotic before the Johnson administration. The above art...

This week, two major “trials” took place in the Democrat controlled United States congress. First of all, Oil company executives were put on trial. Another “trial” will take ...
