2007-12-23 11:20:00 I knew you're counting on me so I spent hours scouring my collection looking for Cuban Christmas songs (actually, they're all on one CD) and came up with a few examples here. I must admit that I expected more. I understand why they don't now, but why didn't pre-revolutionary Cubans make more Christmas songs? It's not the tropical climate- Jesus was born in the desert! If anybody has an answer, let me know. Anyways, here's some songs from the Sonora Matancera. They're OK, but seem hastily put together, like somebody told them, "You have 3 days to record a Christmas album. Do that Sonora thing you do to some Christmas lyrics." One rule: Avoid any Spanish Christmas album with Jingle Bells. I also notice they're all secular which, since I'm not, I find disappointing.
