Manala Manzini said: “We have information to the effect that elements that were involved in the pre-1994 election violence are in fact the same elements that have re-startedd contacts with people that they used in the past.” He asserted that members of the Zulu Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP) were playing a role in the anti-foreign outbreaks. Tourism boosts South African investments
2008-05-16 02:00:00 Owners of rental accommodation in South Africa are benefiting from a strong tourism sector, it has been reported. According to Homes Overseas magazine, visitor numbers in the country went up by about nine per cent last year. This was said to have resulted in the holiday industry generating nearly £25 billion for the national economy. As a result, many buy-to-let investors will have seen increases in their occupancy rates and rental yields. Furthermore, this trend of upwards growth is expected to continue in the run up to the football World Cup, which is being staged in the country for the first time in 2010. South Africa's government recently revealed that it wants to attract ten million foreign visitors in two years time. According to deputy tourism minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi, visitor numbers have gone up by 1,415 per cent in the last 14 years, reports AllAfrica.com.

South African Bo-Karoo a Place Of Unique Friendliness, Hospitality And Wond
2008-05-13 20:08:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the Bo-Karoo, the windmill pumps stand alone at the end of the day that brings a explosion of orange, red and gold. Not many people live in the Bo-Karoo. The water in this area comes at a premium. "You need to be born here to live here." This is a quote from Old Oom Scalk in Priska. This is the Bo-Karoo (Upper Karoo) where a wilderness plateau covers the southern region and the Orange River forms the northern boundary. This area is south of Johannesburg and north from Cape Town. The name Karoo was given to the area by the local Hottentots that means [the place of big drought]. The dry arid landscape is covered with a variety of succulents and can be viewed, all at once, at the Ria Huisamen Aloe Garden in Prieska and near Marydale in the North West. The Quiver Tree Forest is a must see for visitors to the Bo-Karoo. Because of the sparse vegetation game viewing is wonderful.Rate and Review : South African Bo-Karoo a Place Of Unique Friendliness, H...

South African Workers Fight For Zimbabwe
2008-04-22 09:02:00 A campaign to prevent arms currently aboard a Chinese vessel that are destined for the dictatorial regime of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe may well halt the arrival of the weapons which would be used to crush those who oppose the ruler. The Congress of South African Trade Unions(Costau) called for an international boycott of the vessel and urged fellow dock workers in other African ports to refuse unloading the cargo of destruction. “Coastu is doing everything possible to alert the international trade union movement to the danger to the workers of Zimbabwe if the cargo is allowed to be unloaded and deliverted to Mugabe’s forces.” Unlike the passivity of President Mbeki of South Africa, the trade union movement is working to support those being oppressed in Zimbabwe. South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union(Satawu) leader Randall Howard told the world: “We shall not rest until the weapons destined to Zimbabwe are returned to Beijing. We shall not b...

South African Cricketer Jonty Rhodes to export wines into India
2008-03-02 18:37:00 Grai Import and Export and signed a deal with India's United Breweries for exclusive supply of South African wines to India. Jonty Rhodes, one of Australia's former cricketers is a director of the company. South Africa believes that it can sell 10 million cases to India over the next decade. Abhay Kewadkar was first quoted in Sommelier India as saying that his company wanted to sell six million bottles of wine over the next five years and wanted to capture a third of the market in India. This partnership is part of that plan. Rhodes shot to fame when he got Imran Khan run out in the 1993 World Cup. It still considered one of the more spectacular feats of that World Cup. He's popular in India because he took a world record of five catches, to achieve the most dismissals by a fielder against the West Indies at Brabourne Stadium, Bombay. Keiskamma: AIDS and love in a new South African documentary
2008-02-07 17:12:00 The number of amazing political films piling up on my desk to review is crowding out the view of my computer, so I've decided to post a handful of "mini-reviews," short one to two paragraph attempts to capture the essence of the film and pique your interest. Here's the first: KEISKAMMA: A STORY OF LOVE (S.Africa, 2007, 90min) Directed by Miki Redelinghuys This potent vérité does not hide from love as it follows activists and patients in a South African district riddled with the HIV/AIDS virus. Meandering throughout a community forged by the challenges of sickness and poverty, the film captures the collective spirit that comes with intense commitment to mutual aid. Heartbreaking stories slowly emerge such as the tale of Nkululeko, a young boy infected with HIV and covered in sores, who is remiss in his self-disciplined routine of taking pills every day. There are others as well, but the film is focused more on the actions of those helping, caring, and staying strong. Keiskamma is a...

Ford invests $209 million in South African operations
2008-02-01 20:33:00 Ford invests $209 million in South African operations Ford has announced that it will invest $209 million into the expansion of its South African operations. The investment — which will be split between Ford's Silverton, Pretoria and Struandale, Port Elizabeth factories — will go towards the production of a new diesel engine and compact pickup truck. Ford's Struandale plant will begin producing the new Puma diesel engine in 2010, with the automaker's Silverton plant scheduled to produce the new compact pickup in 2011. The new investment will also create 500 new jobs by 2011. However, don't look for either product to make it to the U.S. In fact, Ford has already announced that it will stop offering its compact Ranger pickup in the U.S. after 2009. The investment further proves that domestic automakers are looking to overseas markets to keep their finances in the black, and Ford CEO Alan Mulally even said that he expects the Dearborn automaker to d...

As you can remember it started with some difficulties in France with the Air France strike. Finally we managed to join Johanneburg the next day. We had also some difficulties at the airport because nobody was aware of our delayed arrival. The contact person wited for us on the initial foreseen Air France flight and had not received any information on the new flight. It was the same at the Europcar counter where no car was available because it was sent back as we did not arrive in the evening as foreseen. (Nobody informed the people who waited for us, Europcar and the Hotel from our Airflight problems) Nevertheless We managed to join Hilltop Camp just 10 minutes after t...
