Nickelback - Live at Sturgis 2006
2008-12-22 23:34:00
Just released in time with their new Dark Horse album is Nickelback’s Live at Sturgis 2006 DVD.  (Sturgis is in South Dakota and is home to the world’s largest motorcycle events.)  I would rank this concert DVD up high with the best.  The energy, high definition photography, 5.1 audio, pyrotechnics, and performance were all balanced ...
South Dakota: McCain by 17
2008-09-13 18:58:00
Once thought to be part of Barack Obama’s 50-state strategy, South Dakota has swung massively in favor of John McCain. A new Rasmussen Poll out this morning has John McCain beating Obama in South Dakota by 17 points, 54% to 37%. Though we never predicted Obama would actually win SD, its recently tightened polls (as narrow as 4 points a month ago) were more an indicator for the broader potential for a once-believed Democratic landslide in November. That time has come and passed. What’s more, such recent increases in places like South/North Dakota, as well as Montana, New Mexico, and Nevada, with McCain pulling within 2 in Washington, may provide some insight into the upward potential the all-western McCain/Palin ticket could bring this fall.
No More Abortions in South Dakota?
2008-07-22 23:16:00
Hehe...this article from Slate.com encapsulated the insanity that has forever gripped the anti-abortion movement. The double-speak required to pass this recent bit of legislation is beyond Orwellian. According to this recent mandate, abortion "will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being." Huh? Can you run that by me one more time? An implanted embryo is whole, separate, and unique? Then why does a mere separation of the placenta from the uterine wall inevitably result in death? Whether it happens via mechanical methods or spontaneously, it seems to be a near certainty that until the point of viability, which is somewhere between 20 and 28 weeks, detaching this supposedly whole and separate human being will result in its demise.I agree with the author of this article: Abortions should be renamed "separations," and those who choose separation should no longer be held accountable for the consequences. After all, it is a "whole, sepa...
Obama Leads McCain After Clinton Endorsement
2008-06-10 08:51:00
Barack Obama made gains over John McCain according to the latest presidential polling. Rasmussen and Gallup polling data from June 6 through June 8 showed a sizable bump for Obama after officially clinching the Democratic nomination. Barack Obama became the presumptive Democratic nominee last Tuesday after picking up superdelegates endorsements and pledged delegates from South Dakota and Montana. Senator Clinton met with Democratic leaders on Wednesday and later announced her intentions to withdrawal from the race and endorse Obama. With the Democratic nomination locked up and Senator Clinton endorsing Obama, Obama had a week of publicity following this major victory. According a Rasmussen poll, Obama picked up 4 points and McCain lost 2 points from the previous week. The six point swing gives Obama a 50 percent to 44 percent lead. The previous Rasmussen poll showed a dead tie between Obama and McCain. Gallup polling data showed a slightly larger swing fo...

Hillary Clinton: ?I will be making no decisions tonight? on Quitting the Ra
2008-06-04 06:46:00
So, I’ve already analyzed Obama’s speech which was given shortly after Clinton’s following speech.  She had been expected to suspend her campaign and acknowledge that Obama had reached the “magic number,” but not actually concede, but she didn’t even do that.  She just said, “I’ll talk it over and decide later” essentially.  Here’s the speech: Thank you. Barack Obama Wins Democratic Nomination
2008-06-04 06:00:00
After a long and hard fought Democratic contest, Senator Barack Obama became the victor after securing the 2,118 delegates required to be nominated.Obama rolled out almost three dozen superdelegates before the South Dakota and Montana primaries, eventually clinching the nomination as the results of the South Dakota primary trickled in. Clinton did not endorse Obama tonight, but all signs point to a possible endorsement tomorrow or in the coming days.Clinton won the South Dakota primary, home state of prominent Obama supporter and former Majority Leader, Tom Daschle. Obama won the Montana primary.Obama is now the first African-American to be nominated by a major party, exactly 200 years after the end of the slave trade (1808).Now, we look to November...

2008-06-04 04:22:00
No wonder Hillary hasn’t conceded yet. Ad Wars: Clinton, Obama Shift To South Dakota
2008-05-27 18:02:00
Check out our entire video library at Political Realm TV.Hillary ClintonClinton talks fiscal responsibility and takes aim at the policies of President Bush rather than her Democratic rival in her latest ad, "Responsibility." Clinton talks about reducing the deficit, balancing the budget, and protecting social security in the spot that is set to air in South Dakota, whose primary is next Tuesday.Barack ObamaBarack Obama's new South Dakota ad, "Straight," features longtime supporter and former South Dakota Senator Tom Daschle. He notes Obama's support from two other South Dakota Dems--Senator Tim Johnson and Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin--while playing up Obama's appeal to working class voters. Daschle says, "He's rooted in the same values as most South Dakotans. He has an understanding of American--rural and urban alike."
She Said What?
2008-05-24 20:53:00
Definitely not something Clinton needs considering her situation in the Democratic nomination contest. On Friday during an editorial board meeting with South Dakota newspaper Argus Leader, Clinton invoked the RFK assassination in 1968 as a reason to continue the race to be the Democratic nominee.Instead of quoting her, here is her comments in full context (something you won't get in the media). Her apology.I am willing to give Clinton the benefit of the doubt and when in context, it does seem she was only referencing why she should go all the way to June--other campaigns have done it before. Bill Clinton wrapped it up in June 1992. RFK was in third place in the delegate count but planned to take it to the convention before his tragic end. Edward Kennedy was far more behind in the delegate count than Clinton and took it to the convention in 1980.NOTE: My internet is still not up an running. It will be awhile until everything is back to normal.
Beautiful BUCKSKIN filly - MUST SEE! For sale or trade

This filly has an absolutely beautiful little head, nice neck and she carries down nicely in her butt area. The picture shown was taken at about 2 1/2 weeks of age. Please email me for more pictures. She was halter broke when she was born and now she is out to pasture with her mom enjoying the green grass. The dam to this filly has always thrown me very quiet, level headed foals and I am sure Sierra will be the same way. Very nice filly!! Special considerations to a show home.

Moving information. Hyperion Resources and your relocation to South Dakota
2008-04-22 16:19:00
Moving is an ordeal that most of us would rather not do. If you are lucky enough to have your move paid for by your company, this is ideal situation to be in. Most times the company that is paying for the move will ask you to get at least two estimates. When the moving company comes to do the estimates ask what it entails when they come into your home to move you? My movers were great and did all the work. All I had to do was stay out of the way. If you are moving yourself get estimates from truck rental companies. Also I would advise that ahead of time start getting boxes, and any materials to wrap breakables. Wardrobe boxes make it very easy to move your clothes from your closet. They are a little pricey but worth it. I used mine then sold them to someone. This is something that most forget to do and that is get together a file with documents you will need during and after your move. Have your child's old school information, which...

Wolverines in the Upper Midwest
2008-04-12 14:32:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here. This post was split off from an earlier post that got too large, California Wolverine Re-discovered After 85 Years. This particular post will deal with the question of wolverines in the Upper Midwest. Until recently, wolverines had been extinct in the Upper Midwest for 85-200 years. However, one was photographed in 2004 in Ubly, Michigan. Furthermore, there have been some tantalizing sightings in Minnesota and possibly in Iowa in recent years. It is distinctly possible the wolverines may be reclaiming some of their historical territory in the Upper Midwest. If so, this is fascinating indeed.A wolverine was recently photographed in Michigan, where they were reportedly extirpated almost 200 years ago. Nobody has the faintest idea how that wolverine got to Ubly, Michigan, 90 miles north of Detroit. It could have come down from the Upper Peninsula...

New biodiesel laws in Missouri and South Dakota
2008-03-14 19:58:00
Photo by Skidrd. Licensed under Creative Commons license 2.0.Two small updates today on the status of biodiesel in the U.S. First, Missouri is looking at setting a biodiesel mandate of five percent, which could match the highest biodiesel mandate in the country. New Mexico will be B5 by 2012 and four other states have B2 mandates. The Missouri bill passed the first preliminary approval hurdle this week and now needs to be voted on in the state House and Senate before moving forward.Meanwhile, in South Dakota, the Governor has signed into law a piece of legislation that drops the tax on diesel fuel by two cents a gallon if it contains at least five percent biodiesel blended in. But don't start counting your pennies just yet; the law only kicks in once South Dakota can make at least 20 million gallons of the biofuel a year.[Source: AP, Energy Current]

A foggy, wintry morning in South Dakota
2007-12-29 18:31:00
Justin called me Thursday morning to ask if I had yet looked outside as it was quite foggy and everything was completely covered in white. He thought that perhaps I might want to go out and take some pictures...which Kaitlin and I promptly did. This was taken at Riverside Park and is of the Lewis & Clark Bridge crossing over into Nebraska which is soon to be replaced by a new bridge they are constructing just a few blocks to the west. Same spot...looking the other direction. This picture was taken down by Lake Yankton. This picture was taken to the west overlooking Lewis & Clark Lake from a lookout spot on the dam. I took some pictures of the Bishop Marty Chapel while we were out as well and will share those soon. Kaitlin also tested her new camera for the first time, too, and will be sharing her artistry also!

New refinery to be built in South Dakota to process Canadian crude
2007-12-17 18:53:00
When people think of South Dakota, assuming they think of the state at all, they probably remember the Black Hills, or Mount Rushmore. That may soon change. The largest supplier of crude oil to the United States is Canada and the majority of that oil comes from the oil sands of Alberta. Hyperion Resources has just begun the process of getting approval to build a new oil refinery in Elk Point, South Dakota specifically to process that oil. The first phase of the Hyperion Energy Center is planned to refine 400,000 barrels of oil sands crude per day. The plant will produce ultra-low-sulfur gasoline and diesel fuels. The refinery is designed to be highly integrated, re-processing many of byproducts of the refining process to produce other necessary inputs. For example, petroleum coke from the distillation process will be used to make hydrogen, electricity and steam. The refinery is also being designed to incorporate the latest pollution control technology as well as carbon capture and s...
Semi full of ethanol crashes in South Dakota
2007-11-28 00:35:00
Quick, someone call John McCain. South Dakota could use his ethanol-drinking skills during the clean-up following a semi-truck accident near Big Stone. According to a very short story from the Associated Press this afternoon, the driver was injured (broken arm, cuts and bruises) and the truck was a "total loss" following an accident at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Several thousand gallons of ethanol spilled from the crash, and haz-mat teams were called in. It seems that the ethanol was from Poet, as the truck was coming from Poet's refinery in Big Stone City before it veered off the road. There has been no statement from Poet.[Source: AP]
