You can see the most wonderful spam catcher Akismet has caught more than 31 thousand spam comments on this blog and needless to say blogging would have been a nightmare if all the bad comments had not been caught at the entrance but when my own comment got caught as spam, I got a bit worried. Have the spammers got so good that Akismet cannot distinguish between a legitimate vs spam anymore?  And that too from the blog author? del.icio.us Tags: Akismet,Spam ©2008 . All Rights Reserved.. Referer Spamming - A Link Building Tactic?
2008-05-09 16:30:00
And I HATE it! What is referer spamming anyway? It’s gonna make webmasters red hot angry as this link building tactic spams your log files with fake referers that links back to the spammer’s website. Analytics like Webalizer and Awstats that offer public display of stats are its main target - specifically, analytics that rank referer stats. With over thousands of fake hits they send to your website, there’s no way their site wouldn’t rank high in your logs. After ranking in your log, they get an easy free link. Referer - that’s a single “r” by the way. Referer spamming is not new at all, it’s been round for ages! It just so happen that the monster bit this lil’ blog. Not an ordinary spammer though, pretty tricky and well planned - although I’m not surprised at all, because spamming has also developed well over the years! By morning today, I checked my WP stats…

Why Do Realtors Hate Spam But Love Spamming?

Secrets Behind Link Building, Avoid Search Engine Spamming
2008-02-12 06:43:00
On reading this post you should be able to do link building with simple steps that i believe should help you do effective link building. For a natural link simulation most of your back links should adhere to the following strategies:Your targeted keywords need to vary a lot in anchor. Limited number of ?click here? should help you to have good link building. When it comes to English websites, it is commonly accepted that more weightage (not the page rank) is got from links of related pages. Try not to have the back links all over the footage of the site or at one particular location. Try spreading it over the page, like top of page, or within the text, navigation, etc.Never try to place hundreds of link for a new site on the very first day. Gradually increase the number of links. This normally relates to the number of links a site gets. Hence if a site has an average of 20 links per day, then do not try to increase it to 200 links suddenly. Chances of being banned from Google are hig...

Is Your Real Estate Blog Keyword Spamming Behind Your Back?
2008-02-05 13:52:00
Enough already... I have read this post or that post that claims this real estate blogger or that one is keyword spamming.  Let me set the record straight, to keyword spam in content is pretty hard- it would make your text almost unreadable.  What is more likely to be caught by engines is keyword spamming in the HTML. This happens when you or your web developer load your link, image, heading or other HTML tags with spammy "alt" "title" or other attributes.  While that was a great way to manipulate search positioning in 1999, it is a sorely outdated, dare I say, embarrassing way to do it today.  This is the most common type of keyword spamming caught by engines today. So, before we get into the what, when, where, how of it all, let's find out who is keyword spamming: Use This Tool to Check for Keyword Spamming:  spam detector tool ***FYI: CSS attributes with visibility set to none are very common today as more and more sites are CSS driven, this is not alway...
Spamming for Preys - Beware of Phone Scam!
2008-02-03 20:30:00
It has been long since scammers first use despicable methods to con money in board light. We see stories in newspapers and documentary programmes, but there are still people who fall for the scams. We cannot blame the victims for being gullible because the shameless tricksters are too cunning to use love as the ultimate weapon. The anxiety of parents and grandparents towards the younger generation simply drives them vulnerable. The most well-known trick is to call the house during working hours when only the elderly are around. The scammers will claim that the owner’s son or grandson is kidnapped, detained or injured, in order to ask for money. Sometimes, the group of scammers may provide some background groaning sounds to pretend that the “victim” is in pain. If the person who picks up the phone is not calm enough, there is high chance to fall into the trick.Of course, the scammers are playing with luck since there are possibilities that the owners do not have any child, or rat...

Spamming - You and Me
2008-01-23 20:17:00
Different people may have different definitions and tolerance of spam.Sometimes, spam and good intentioned advertising are just within a borderline; that is, by overdoing the latter may simply cross over. Each of us will eventually want to promote some items or events in part of our lives. Be it for good or selfish intention, there should be a limit. If you want to sell some items and you post bulletins in Friendster, MySpace or Facebook, and even email every friend, it is never an issue until you repeatedly do it.You do it once and we all see it, and we know it. If we want to get it, we will. But if we receive the same message over and over again, it certainly turns into a form of spam regardless of our relationship.Spam may not necessary be commercial related. With an extra thought before you start to advertise or post any message, let your comments be delivered to only friends who are most likely to be interested and also, you should not repeat it until a period of time. The temptati...

Spamming and Phishing
2008-01-12 06:25:00
Phishing is a form of deception in which a message sender pretends to be a representative of a legitimate organization in an attempt to trick the recipient into divulging important information like a password or bank account number. An example of a plot is to tell the recipient that he or she has strike a lottery. Other common tricks are to tell the recipient that a rich person is dying and want to inherit his or her wealth to the recipient or even offering of free insurance policy.Such phishing messages can be sent through emails or even Social Media Sites (Networking websites) such as MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, Multiply, Hi5.However, since phishing has been so common that most of the tricks are already used over and over again, so that most experienced internet users are too smart for them. DOJ charges 11 in pump and dump stock spamming operation
2008-01-08 18:50:00
The Department of Justice has just announced the arrests of 11 spammers involved in a pump and dump stock spam scheme. Pump and dump schemes victimize people — lured by the expectation of too good to be true money — who buy the stocks at artificially inflated prices. They normally lose money when the value suddenly drops because the people behind the scheme sell off their artificially inflated shares. One of those arrested, an Alan Ralsky is considered one of the biggest spammers around by Spamhaus, which is an organization dedicated to tracking spam. From the press release: A federal grand jury indictment was unsealed today in Detroit charging 11 persons, including Alan M. Ralsky, his son-in-law Scott K. Bradley, and Judy M. Devenow, of Michigan, and eight others, including a dual national of Canada and Hong Kong and individuals from Russia, California, and Arizona, in a wide-ranging international fraud scheme involving the illegal use of bulk commercial e-mailing, or &...

How To Avoid Phishing And Spamming Online Posted By :

Phishing on AOL was closely associated with the warez community that exchanged pirated software. After AOL brought in measures in late 1995 to prevent this, ...

Spam Wikipedia, and you will end up in one of the most dreaded places in the World Wide Web. Imagine a place where your site appears in the 'Spammer Blacklist' and Yahoo! And Google give you the cold shoulder. This was the tone of things that would happen to anyone who spammed Wikipedia as Jonathan Hochman, Founder/President, Hochman Consultants said during the Wikipedia, Yahoo Answers & Answer Sharing session at the New York leg of SMX Social Media. Speaking to Forbes' Andy Greenberg, Jonathan Hochman said: "The blacklist is public, so search engines can read it. You don't want to get on that list." "Basically it's 'shoot on sight.' You're guilty until proven innocent." Jonathan also writes in Search Engine Journal that: "If you only end up on the Wiki blacklist, that might be ignored. If you do a bunch of other shady things, that signal starts to look consistent. I know some of the people who run the blacklist....

Building Website Popularity
2007-10-03 17:03:00
Website popularity is an important off-page factor of search marketing. The big search engines like Google [http://www.google.com], Yahoo! [http://www.yahoo.com], MSN [http://www.msn.com/] and Live.com [http://www.live.com/] all use website popularity in their search engine ranking algorithms. Search engine algorithms rank websites using different factors. The reputation and popularity of websites that link to your website are both important components of successful search engine marketing. Titan SEO will strategically build your popularity to get the best results. Many SEO companies and firms offer hundreds of links at discounted prices. Tricks To Prevent Email Spamming
2007-09-21 04:49:00
All bloggers would like readers to be able to contact us and the most obvious way is to display our email address on our blogs which will most probably invite spammers to spam us. The most common place to get the email address is from the web pages. If your email address is listed on a web page or blog on the Internet especially in a search engine or directory, spammers will find it.The only way to keep your email address private is to not publish your address on the web in any form. This is usally not an option as many of us would like people who want to access our email address for legitimate reason to find it. If you must publish your email address on a website or blog, encrypt your address so that the spam bots cannot harvest it as they crawl the web. There are a few ways you can do this. One way is to use images to represent your email address. Here is an online email icon generator, which allows you to create an image for your email address. Just enter your address in the "ente...
