How to Catch the Audience?s Attention When Speaking in Public
2009-09-21 16:14:00
Nothing would frustrate an audience more than listening to a boring or ?bad? public speaker. One of the things that you should remember when delivering a speech is that it is very easy to divert the audience?s attention. Once they find your speech uninteresting, they would not want to watch you in front, hence they will ...

Speaking Justice Versus Living It
2009-09-11 23:07:00
One of my challenges as an activist, and as a Christian, is finding the proper balance between speaking about my values and living them out. Too much discussion keeps me unhealthily engaged with self-justification against opponents, while too little can be a form of selfish quietism in the face of widespread misinformation about what the Bible says. The Epistle of James has a lot to say about closing the gap between hearing and doing God's word. This recent installment of the Human Rights Campaign's Out in Scripture lectionary e-newsletter includes some fruitful reflections on that text (boldface emphasis mine):Our conversation about this week?s lectionary Bible passages began with James 1:17-27. What is the way of God?s wisdom? The book of James suggests that it is the ?law of liberty? (James 2:12). And that law starts with doing. Doers of the law?s basic justice requirements place themselves in risky outreach settings in which we are inevitably challenged to know who we really...

Historically Speaking Republicons Have Not Been Known As Being "For The Peo
2009-08-23 14:44:00
All you have to do is live here. That's really all I have to say. You get a Feel for the place. You understand what certain parts of the country are like, you understand their subcultures within the big culture and you understand what makes them tick.Historically speaking, Republicans have not been known for their people friendly governing ways. They have been for BIG BIZ. BIG BIZ rules in Republicanland. BIG BIZ is an entity/person unto it self. BIG BIZ is all they know, will ever know, and will ever care about. Is it any wonder why, once again we cannot get any health care bill passed? Is it any wonder why we cannot agree on anything remotely related to health care? Is it any wonder why, Hillary Clinton way back in 1992 could not get anything done regarding health care? It's 1992 all over again. Except this time, it's much much worse. Real people, in real time are dying, will die, and will continue to die if the United States continues on in this manner. This is the battlefield....

Speaking of the 2011 Mustang GT...
2009-08-13 04:19:00
Car and Driver came across some interesting Ford test cars recently: http://blog.caranddriver.com/20-11-ford-mustang-gt-an-even-more--potent-track-pack-to-complemen-t-the-400-hp-5-0-liter/  What to make of this? It takes Ford 5 liters to make 400 horsepower, and the beemer makes 17 more with only 4 liters. The beemer costs a heckuva lot more... but has considerably more capability. The "Track Pack" is attaining mythical qualities that it doesn't deserve at all... it's nothing more than a couple of things anybody making a Mustang into a track car would do (tires & suspension) on their own. In fact, it's less - because it's riding too high, and it has inadaquate brakes. The cure for the front brakes is easy - but there is no cure for the tiny rear brakes. Well, there was, but Ford cancelled it. At least the Mustang GT isn't as poorly endowed as the Taurus SHO, which very literally is "smoking" in road tests - smoking it's brakes as...

Hillsborough Residents Speaking Out for Kids and Doggies
2009-06-11 03:32:00
Hillsborough County, like most of the country, is facing a budget shortfall. Officials have to come up with ways to cut at least $144 million in spending. Unfortunately, they won’t go after no-bid vendors or other white collar prostitutes fleecing the Bay area. Instead, commissioners target programs serving our children and abused animals. Because who cares about them? Last night, several hundred concerned residents showed they cared by turning out to speak before the Hillsborough County Commission and voice support for these threatened programs. The Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department hosts after-school programs for families of modest means who would otherwise have no options for child care. Over 3,500 youngsters all over Tampa Bay spend their youth in these parks; many of them work those same programs as teenagers and college students. Several spoke last night and reminded everyone that crime and vandalism would surely increase if area kids weren’t in a safe and...
Speak Up! Speak Out! Public Speaking has great impact on PR Practitioners
2009-06-09 07:38:00
"Public communication skills are important for anyone who needs to share information with others. Or those who hope to persuade others about an issue". Public Relations professionals are no exception to this. Many times we, Public Relations practitioners, pay little attention to the formal consideration of our communication skills, especially public speaking skills. In this increasingly information-oriented age, Public Speaking skills are becoming more and more critical. As part of our profession, we need to influence people and win friends to get our work done. And most of the time, that is achieved through our gift of the gab.

Public Speaking
2009-02-18 16:44:00
Let me start this post with personal note; I have acquired debating and public speaking skills early in life as a course taught at the academy. And I have been on the rostrum throughout my active service. I can say it by experience that all success have come to me by learning public speaking skills. Thanks that learning public speaking has become easier and there are better learning facilities available as compared to my times. Have a look at public speaking e-book and see what it offers and how. This e-book takes up a practical learning approach real life examples and by offering best possible solutions to avoid any disasters in front of the audiences. Anyone who wants to command the stage should learn public speaking with Surviving Speaking Disaster.
I Might As Well Have Been Speaking Venusian....Why We Need Social Media She
2009-02-18 13:30:00
The other week I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to guest speak at a small and intimate gathering of established small business owners and others (each one nicer than the next!) who sought me out specifically to address the subject "How to Attract Clients in a Down Economy."  I was flattered because only a third were lawyers, the rest in the financial field including trust officers at larger banks. This issue crosses professions.  But a funny thing happened.  Somewhere along the way they started hearing Venusian. Let me explain. If you are reading this blog then you are (maybe) already conversant in what a blog is, how to comment, have possibly explored Twitter and are trying to understand about differentiation and everything else I and others speak of on a regular basis. But those who are constantly engaged in social media get caught up in their social media bubble talking with others who use these tools.  As a result they forget we are a very, very, very small and d...
The Decline of the English-Speaking World
2009-02-10 08:31:00
From the desk of Fjordman on Mon, 2009-02-09 08:26I will defend all Western countries but I feel especially close to Britain, which makes it all the more sad to see how humiliated this once-great nation currently is. The English language once conquered the world. Now the rest of the world is conquering the English-speaking countries. If current trends continue, people in Singapore will know English while the nation that created the English language will cease to exist. At the same time as sharia law has gained official recognition as a part of the British legal system and Muslims proudly talk about conquering the Western world, a British woman was arrested because of a supposedly "racist" doll she kept in her window. In al-Britannia a Muslim man can claim benefits for children with multiple wives and brag about subduing the country and reducing its traditional inhabitants to second-rate citizens or worse, but you cannot have a "racially insensitive" doll in your own home, at least no...
