Balancing of 16 spoons on face world record set by School Boy
2008-05-14 15:30:00
*Image: http://funlok.org/2008/04-01/sp-oon_balancing_world_record.jpg- As he placed the 16th spoon delicately on the end of his nose, Joe Allison felt a huge rush of achievement. For at the age of nine, he had broken a world record. The schoolboy beat the previous record for balancing spoons on the face, by just one. After his success, he said there wasn't really a secret to the art, adding: "The spoons just stick on and I don't really know how. "It's something I can do easily and I know I'll make 17 one day but I'll probably have to wait until I grow a bit so there's some more space on my forehead." Joe discovered his talent two years ago when his cousin challenged him to balance a spoon on his nose. His mother Fenella, 42, a swimming teacher, said: "I'm really, really proud of him because he can do something that no one else in the world can do. "Apparently it's always youngsters who beat the record because they have slightly greasier skin. Image: http://funlok.org...

How to Dig a Hole: Bwana Spoons Opening
2008-01-12 15:00:00
Please don't go to this show. I've been trying to knab some of Bwana Spoons art for a while and it seems that I can't make it to openings on time lately. Okay, how about you just come late, like 8:00pm so I can swoop in and get my goods. No? I didn't think so. What am I talking about?... "Spoons is a Portland-based artist whose freewheeling style was developed under the influence of underground comics, '60s rock posters, and Japanese rubber monster movies. Starting out with stapled-and-folded zines like My Friend the Micronaut and Ain't Nothing Like Fucking Moonshine in the early '90s, Spoons has become a regular in the Northwest street art and indie music scene. Endangered animals caught in mid-thought, kung-fu wizards with gravity-defying eyebrows, and swirling psychedelic backgrounds are only some of the elements found in the well-composed anarchy of his paintings and sculpture. He is also involved in the Grass Hut art collective and gallery. Although the show is called '...

Count Carb: How Many Teaspoons of Sugar in your Food Items
2007-11-26 10:31:00
This is a new way to count carb in your food, so as you find it more easy to count carbs in all your food items. This list contains the equivalent number of teaspoons of sugar in your food items. It is derived from their carb content. Calculations are made based on the net carb content, i.e. excluding fibers.Reading this list makes you sense the carb content of food items, e.g.eating 1 medium avocado supplies your body with 306 Calories, only 14 of which are coming from equivalent to less than 1 teaspoon of sugar, and the rest is coming from beneficial nutrients including good fats, while eating 1 dried fig supplies 47.7 Calories about 42 of which come from carb equivalent to 2.62 teaspoons of sugar. While eating white sugar has unhealthy effects, all fruits -except the dried items which can only be eaten within a calorie plan- contain small amounts of sugars, and they should represent a considerable part of your carb intake. The lists take exhaustive work, and I can not continue unless...

Somebody Stole All My Spoons
2007-11-12 16:42:00
If you don't know about the spoon theory, you should really read it. Anyway, the past few weeks, I have been sliding downhill real fast. I can barely get out of bed. I can barely move in the morning. I ache from head to toe. I can barely keep anything down in the morning, including my pills.I just want to crawl somewhere and hide right now. I can barely stop crying this morning because of the pain. The doctor's PA told me that it isn't related to my thyroid. So what is it? Why should I be barely able to move? My muscles ache and twitch involuntarily. My face feels so puffy. That I know is from the thyroid. When I do my weekly weigh-ins on Sundays, I also do measurements. My neck is an inch bigger then it was last year. I am thinking that it is because of my thyroid. It feels really uncomfortable to swallow. I just don't feel like I have any energy. I can already tell that today is going to be hell at work. Its going to be a long day that just won't seem to end.

The Battle of the Spoons

Wait! Wait! Don't tell me! There's something different . . . you've done something with your hair?Nope, but I've got me a new template! Like it? Jules from Everyday Mommy made the background graphic from a photo I took and I rather like the effect. And I'm official with my own logo now! Just like the big kids. Mugs, t-shirts and collector's buttons coming soon . . .***When Andrew and I married I didn't give a lot of thought to the marriage ceremony. I had some basic ideas about where it should be and who was going to be there, that I ought to have a white dress and that we ought to have a reception but I really wasn't into a lot of the details that brides typically get into. And as for gifts, I didn't really care about matching dishes and towels, in fact I only registered for one item. One item because my Mom, thinking that her daughter should actually consider some of the details of setting up house, brought me some pictures of flatware patterns to see what my tast...

I Awake to Teaspoons Clanking- Am I in France?

I Awake to Teaspoons Clanking- Am I in France?Casablanca, MoroccoSeptember 8, 2007http://canciondelvagabundo.-googlepages.com/I did not have a difficult time of waking up for the hour long breakfast service at the Youth Hostel this morning- the clanking of teaspoons on little tea cups is as worthy a wake up call as you can ask for. The eating habits of this city are very French. I never have as difficult of a time finding suitable places to eat that in France or Ex-French colonies. I suppose that what I look for in a restaurant appears to be very similar to a French café- and real food is not served there. No, only coffee, tea, and little dainty buns and sweets. No food. So after invariably walking into a score of these places and being declined a meal, I realize that I am going have to alter my search criteria and begin looking for other signs of food.At this initial point, it seems as if my dining options in Casablanca are expensive restaurants (4 dollars for an omelet), on-the-st...

MEDIA: Who Needs Knives and Spoons?
2007-02-27 02:52:00
I don't know about you, but I've become accustomed to taking my media with me. Now, I haven't yet succumbed to the video iPod yet (that's more my teenage son's style), and when you have a beautiful 17" screen on your MacBook Pro, why not use it? However, that same machine also sucks battery life when you're playing a DVD. Sure, I could copy the files to my hard drive, but who has 4-8 GB handy for every movie they want to take with them? To the rescue comes MediaFork, an offshoot of the likes of Handbrake for Mac/PC/Linux. It'll rip your legally owned DVDs to various resolutions (and yes, it'll work with your iPod). Thus, you'll save disk space, and power. Now if I could only get a 200 GB flash RAM drive, I'd be saving battery life all over the place. - Hutch A special shout out to our friends at FreeMacWare.com for sharing the love on this one.

Four teaspoons of olive oil a day, keeps cancer at bay!
2006-12-27 21:46:01
Daily Express: Four teaspoons of olive oil a day can help prevent cancer, scientists revealed yesterday. The oil, found in Mediterranean diets, cuts levels of substances in the blood which can trigger the disease. Just a small amount of the oil every day helps protect against cell damage which can lead to tumours developing. The research may help explain why many cancer rates are higher in northern Europe than in the south, where olive oil is a major part of the cuisine. Researchers also suggest that combining a wider Mediterranean diet ? rich in fruit, vegetables and pasta ? with the use of olive oil provides an even greater chance of cutting the risk of cancer as well as fighting Alzheimer?s, obesity and heart disease.People in Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Italy live longer than those in other European countries, while rates of breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancer are much lower. Dr Henrik Poulsen, who led the research, said: ?Every piece of evidence so far point...
SHREWSBURY MUSEUM REVEALS RARE IRON AGE SPOONS
2006-12-06 00:26:01
There are only 23 more of them in the world and it's been 80 years since anybody found some before these ones turned up.What are these rare artefacts? They are mysterious bronze spoons, always found in pairs, dating from 800 BC ? 100 AD, and Shrewsbury Museum is the proud owner of the most recently discovered set.Local metal detectorist Trevor Brown found the spoons in mid-Shropshire in 2005, and reported them to the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Archaeologists recognised the spoons as coming from the Iron Age, but what they were used for is uncertain.Read the rest of this article...
