2008-05-03 17:27:00 At a tasting of over 40 wines from 11 wineries organized by Rajeev Samant of Sula, Indian wines were rated in a first ever tasting by the famous British wine writer and taster, Steven Spurrier. ?It was a unique experience for me,? writes Spurrier in the latest issue of Sommelier India, May/June 2008. Read the whole story in print. SI is available by subscription and at select locations, including Oberoi Hotel bookshops country wide and at select Taj Hotel bookshops. Meanwhile, given below are the scores on a 20 point scale and Spurrier?s tasting notes for the white wines: 10 = bad; 11 = poor; 12 = mediocre; 13 = acceptable; 14 = fair; 15 = good; 16 = good+; 17 = very good; 18 = very good+; 19 = excellent; 20 = superb. South Carolina vs Clemson, Could Spurrier lose 5 in a row? prediction
2007-11-23 06:51:00 The Ole Ball coach is seriously needing this game. I think he will seriously get it. Tommy Bowden has a nasty reputation for having bad games during the home stretch. Why should this year be any different? Why should he start doing great against one of the best coaches in college football history? Spurrier has lost ...

Thompson disses Spurrier and 12th-ranked Gamecocks
2007-09-18 00:27:00 Presidential candidate Fred Thompson appears to be a big fan of breaking all the rules of campaigning in South Carolina. On Aug. 30, he broke Rule No. 1: If you do nothing else, you MUST campaign in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. And Monday he violated Rule No. 2: Do not come to Columbia and bash ...

Spurrier attacks the academic part of academia
2007-08-06 16:50:00 Apparently Steve Spurrier doesn’t like the fact that University of South Carolina football players have to be able to, you know, meet the same standards as the rest of the school. So he threatened to quit unless the bar is made low enough to admit all of his recruits - even the really, really ...
Spurrier and Company Getting Raises: But Why?
2007-05-13 18:04:00 Does the South Carolina coaching staff really deserve a raise. Steve Spurrier's step into Politics
2007-05-06 16:20:00 I came across this article on Steve Spurrier and it provoked me. Apparently Spurrier has a problem with the presence of the Confederate Battle saltire on a monument to Confederate soldiers in Columbia.Spurrier: "I realize I'm not supposed to get in the political arena as a football coach, but if anybody were ever to ask me about that damn Confederate flag, I would say we need to get rid of it. I've been told not to talk about that. But if anyone were ever to ask me about it, I certainly wish we could get rid of it."I've always admired the old ball coach for his prowess on the field. Perhaps he should limit himself to that arena."The flag was removed from the dome in 2000 but placed at the Confederate Soldier Monument on Statehouse grounds. The state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said that was not good enough and continued its boycott. The initial boycott drew wide support from inside and outside the state, but encouragement for the ongo...
Why we don't miss Steve Spurrier
2007-04-20 18:24:00 Hopeful Redskins fans remain optimistic that Coach Gibbs has wrestled some or much or most or all of the decision making from Dan Snyder though there may be reason for skepticism. At a minimum, we're better off than we were during the Spurrier era as there is little doubt he wasn't the most involved decision making Coach. My blogging colleague ETVal at Big Blue View provided a very telling example to that end, per his amigo and former Washington Times contributor Rick Snider: Steve Spurrier's initial draft in 2002 was the first sign that the college coach wouldn't make it in the NFL. Spurrier was supposed to be part of the triumvirate making decisions with owner Dan Snyder and personnel director Vinny Cerrato. Instead, Spurrier knew so little about one mid-round pick that he just read the guy's stats. When someone asked for more given Spurrier faced the SEC player when coaching at Florida, Spurrier got ticked and stormed out. He couldn't believe reporters would ask for more th...
