Votes are In- Irish Times~ The St.Patrick's Day Win!
2011-03-23 03:02:00 As promised, after viewing the best hot spots for St. Patrick's Celebrations and Irish Pubs/Restaurants, the votes (ALL 3 OF THEM!) came in & Irish Times in Brookfield is where my shamrock landed. Martin Lynch, owner of Irish Times definitely kept to his word of a jammed pack, fun-filled, memorable day! There was no disappointment, with excellent food, fantastic drink specials, bagpipers, live music, and the ultimate dance party that ensued when DJ Andy got his beats pumping! The night was so incredible that I didn't get a change to document as much as planned. Here are just a few of the great pictures from the evening. To view more pictures, check out drink & food specials, or just learn...
Shepherd's Pie, Shamrock's and Shillelagh's; A St. Patrick&a
2011-03-16 14:21:00 As the More is More Mom®, I'm all about..........more being Irish on St. Patrick's Day! March 17th is the feast day of the Patron Saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. What better way to celebrate a feast day than with a feast?!? Even a tricky little leprechaun couldn't talk my family into eating corned beef and cabbage, which is why I made a feast of a different kind.......

St. Patrick?s Day, Guinness, Whiskey and Chocolate
2011-03-15 01:13:00 When you think of chocolate, you usually don’t think of the Irish. Ireland is not famous for it’s chocolatiers, but that’s changing. Here are some chocolatiers you should know about… Butler’s Chocolates were established in Georgian Dublin in 1932. They still have the same standards today as they did then. The really fun thing is ...

St Patrick's Day Axioms
2011-03-11 14:51:00 Axiom - according to Wikipedia. In traditional logic, an axiom or postulate is a proposition that is not proved or demonstrated but considered to be either self-evident, or subject to necessary decision. Therefore, its truth is taken for granted, and serves as a starting point for deducing and inferring other (theory dependent) truths. Or I'm going to make blanket assumptions and consider them self-evident when it comes to St. Patrick's Day, i.e. me being an A-hole! 1a. Saying, "Happy St Patrick's Day, or St Patty's Day" is ok. Wishing someone "St. Paddy's Day" means you're a bigot who hates the Irish....

Happy St. Patrick?s Day!
2010-03-17 13:36:00 Whether you’re Irish, Irish-American or just plain happy it’s St. Patrick’s Day, let me show you some of the meanest, greenest ways to decorate your computer this March 17! The easiest way is to make sure Firefox is looking its best with Personas. I’m rocking Irish Shamrocks at the moment, and I have to say, it’s really cute. If ‘Celticizing’ your browser isn’t enough, try a theme for your PC. This Images of Ireland Desktop Theme for Windows XP is a great option for all you traditionalists out there, a lovely peaceful theme that includes some of Ireland’s most popular sights, all supplied by the national tourist board, so you know you’re getting the real deal. At the other end of the theme spectrum, we’ve got this fun (but slightly mind-boggling) Sponge Bobs Happy St. Patrick’s Day theme, so if standing stones and freckled children aren’t your thing, you’ve still got plenty of options. If you’...

St. Patrick's Day CTA antics -- a runup to baseball badness?
2010-03-17 13:00:00 I'm really not anti-St. Patrick's Day. Really, despite what you may have read here. In fact I'm a 100% Irish-American, direct descendant of four grandparents whose families all were natives of Ireland. I have marched in St Paddy's Day parades as a kid, I've been known to drink Jameson on and around March 17 (though not as a kid), and I've even hosted a dinner party or two featuring Guinness beef stew and colcannon. But I'm not at all pleased with the boorish behavior I see from Paddy partiers on the CTA. Then I realized, maybe I'm really just dreading the start of Major League baseball, or more specifically, enduring commutes home from work after day Cubs games. Now I'm wondering...
Beer & Cheese Pairings for St. Patrick's Day
2010-03-17 05:46:00 I might have missed the Chicago St. Patrick's Day celebration this year, but even without having been there, I know that festivities aren't just for the Irish anymore. It seems that most people will take any excuse to celebrate - even celebrate means funny green hats and green beer. If you're tired of corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread just won't cut it this year, beer and cheese is a party pairing that is quickly gaining popularity in pubs and fromageries alike....

2010-03-16 04:42:00 This, apparently, is how we Chicagoans spend the Saturday before St. Patty's. The town that brought us one of the world's tallest buildings and Barack Obama has also brought us socially-mandated drinking holidays.

Our St. Patrick's Day
2009-03-19 17:15:00 Nary a year passes here without our family celebrating St. Patrick's Day. My husband's family couldn't be more Irish (on his father's side) and my own has a good helping of Dear Old Eire in there, as well. This year, as in many past, it was all about the food. We started the day off with a Full Irish Breakfast - minus the black and white puddings as I would be the only one to eat those, and the cost wasn't something I was willing to pay just for me. Not one of us could finish the whole thing and there were quite a few leftovers from it. No matter, we put those to good use later.Dinner was Colcannon, Corned beef and Cabbage (with potatoes and carrots) and Irish Soda Bread.Colcannon (with bacon added!), carrots, corned beef and irish soda bread peeking out from it all. Irish Soda BreadAfter that enormous breakfast, but before dinner, those of us at home walked downtown to Donegal Square and Moravian Book Shop - two of my favorite places in Downtown Bethlehem. On the way we noticed...

St. Patrick Behind The Bench?
2008-05-12 16:07:00 Former Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy is a coach. The Colorado Avalanche currently have a coaching vacancy to fill with the departure of Joel Quenneville (remember Don Cherry, he wasn't fired). Therefore, Patrick Roy is automatically a candidate for the job. Forget the fact that Roy has only been coaching hockey for a few years, and only at the junior level (in the offense-only QMJHL). Forget that hiring him would instantly be labeled a publicity stunt more than an actual move to improve the franchise. Forget that Francois Giguere would have to justify a growing string of nostalgia hirings, even if they've proven reasonably successful so far. Forget the fact that any and all mistakes or shortcomings suffered by the team would be magnified ten fold, just by the name behind the bench. It's a wonder Wayne Gretzky survived this long in Phoenix. Sure enough, because Patrick Roy is a coach somewhere, he's a candidate for the Avalanche job.  ...

St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin
2008-03-24 09:21:00 Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, formally known as The National Cathedral and Collegiate Church of Saint Patrick, Dublin or in the Irish language as Árd Eaglais Naomh Pádraig, founded in 1191, is the larger of Dublin’s two Church of Ireland cathedrals, and the largest church in Ireland. Unusually it is not today the seat of a bishop, as Dublin’s Church of Ireland Archbishop has his seat in Christ Church Cathedral, with Saint Patrick’s being (since 1870) the National Cathedral for the whole island, drawing chapter members from each of the twelve dioceses of the Church of Ireland. Saint Patrick’s is headed by a Dean, an office which has existed since 1219, the most famous holder being Jonathan Swift. Plan your summer holidays in Ireland. Nice and fun tourist location, one of best travel cities. Tourist GPS spot: 53° 20′ 22″ N, 6° 16′ 17″ W

Irish Jokes for St Patrick's Day
2008-03-18 09:15:00 Into a Belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy, looking like he'd just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised and he's walking with a limp."What happened to you?" asks Sean, the bartender."Jamie O'Conner and me had a fight," says Paddy. "That little shit, O'Conner," says Sean, "He couldn't do that to you, he must have had something in his hand.""That he did," says Paddy, "a shovel is what he had, and a terrible lickin' he gave me with it." "Well," says Sean, "you should have defended yourself. Didn't you have something in your hand?" "That I did," said Paddy. "Mrs. O'Conner's breast, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight." *******************************-*******************************-********************An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over."So," says the cop to the driver, wher...

2008-03-18 00:07:00 Officials estimated 130,000 to 150,000 revelers packed the downtown for the festivities and to possibly catch a glimpse of presidential hopeful Sen. St. Patrick?s Day: wearing o? the black
2008-03-17 15:47:00 I won’t be wearing green today. Don’t get me wrong - like many Americans, I’ve got plenty of Irish blood in my veins, and I’m quite happy to celebrate that heritage. But this St. Patrick thing… Sadly, very few people have stopped to think about exactly what they’re celebrating, or whom. Patrick is credited with leading the Christianization of Ireland and it’s said he “drove the snakes out” of the place. That, of course, is metaphorical. The serpent was an ancient druidic symbol of wisdom, and the thing that was literally driven out (or killed and buried in the ground of) Ireland was the vibrant, centuries-old culture of the Celts. When a Christian missionary went into a new place it was with one goal - extinguish what he found and replace it with Christianity. We see an illuminating example of how the process might begin in Acts 17:23-34, where Paul stumbles upon an opportunity and seizes it like the last bottle of whiskey in Gal...

Happy St. Patrick?s Day To My Fellow Baha?is
2008-03-17 14:06:00 Today we are all either Irish, or honorary Irish. Little known fact: although everyone refers to him as Saint Patrick, he was never officially canonized by any Pope.
