"The House That Ruth Built" opened in 1923 and is the third oldest stadium in baseball behind only Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston. No baseball field has hosted more World Series games and some of the greats such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson and Roger Maris called Yankee Stadium home.Although I have attended baseball games at over a dozen stadiums, Yankee Stadium is not one of them. I think there is an expectation from passionate baseball fans that I should attend a game at Yankee Stadium before it closes at the end of the season. Council will consider and vote on a bill next Tuesday, June 3 to authorize a soccer stadium at the Poplar Point development in Anacostia, according to a report from WUSA/9's Bruce Johnson. Should it be approved, a new soccer stadium would serve as the home field for D.C. United and likely for the women's Washington Freedom squad.WUSA/9 reports that D.C. United owner Victor MacFarlane would pay for the construction costs of the stadium. The Washington Post later reported that the city would pay $150 million in costs with D.C. United responsible for the excess. Whether the Post writer meant that the city would pay for stadium or infrastructure costs is unclear.D.C. Councilman Marion Barry seems to be a driving force behind the council's effort. On Sunday, they negated a homer by the Mets' Carlos Delgado. This time, the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez was robbed the New York Times reported. Rodriguez, who had homered in the third inning of an eventual 8-0 victory, came up in the sixth against Baltimore's Lance Cormier. He drove a ball to right-center field, and it rose until caroming off a yellow staircase to the bleachers. The ball bounced back to the field and was ruled to be in play. Rodriguez, who had slid safely into second, protested. The umpires conferred but did not reverse the call. 2008-05-08 17:30:00 The Montreal Impact is a week away from playing it's first home game and the organization officially presented the Saputo stadium to the press yesterday.With it's 13 000 seats, the new home of the Montreal Impact is said to be the best looking stadium of the United Soccer League and there are also speculations about the transfer of the team into the Major Soccer League as soon as next year.Should the team enter the MSL next year, the possibility of increasing the number of seats has been planned and would be easily achievable. In a meeting between the MSL and the Montreal team, the league suggested that a minimum of 18 000 seats is needed in order to be accepted.
