7 Stadiums in 11 Days.... Beat That
2011-04-30 03:51:00
Part 1. (US Cellular, Busch Stadium, and Great American BallPark).Over the course of the last eleven days, I successfully made my way across the Midwest and parts of Canada to become one with baseball.  I visited seven stadiums (including US Celluar Field, where my journey began) drove thousands of miles and didn't leave any stadium without sampling their hotdogs. I know most of you only care about playoff hockey and the NFL draft, but maybe you can take a few minutes to read my first analysis on the ball parks (second blog coming later). As stated earlier, I began my soul searching in my home: US Cellular Field.  It was an amazing start to the trip because it was a beautiful day...

Aw, do you remember that big smooch Jake gave Reese almost a year ago at the Trail Blazers Vs LA Lakers Game? "Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday night to claim the best record in the NBA, but that bit of news seemed to play second fiddle to the "smooch seen round the stadium". During the "Kiss Cam" portion of the evening, actor Jake Gyllenhaal planted a big one on girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. Now I'm not usually one for celebrity gossip;" Source: www.examiner.comFrom now on, will Jake have to attend LA Lakers games with Austin maybe? Here Austin Nichols and Jake Gyllenhaal are watching a LA Lakers game, on 11th February 2006."Love and Other Drugs is directed by Ed Zwick (Defiance, Legends of the Fall, Blood Diamond, Glory) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Oliver Platt, Hank Azaria and Jill Clayburgh. Three New Stadiums
2008-01-29 03:17:00
In the era of starchitecture, few projects pose more of a challenge to renowned architects than the scale and complexity of a city's crown jewel, the stadium. With a few recent stunning examples in the works, we thought we'd take a closer look. Camp Nou Home to one of the biggest fútbol teams in the world, FC Barcelona, Camp Nou is getting a major makeover courtesy of British architects Norman Foster + Partners. Already the largest stadium in Europe, Foster + Partners will expand seating capacity to 106,000, ensuring an even more raucous match, but the most eye-catching part of the redesign is the multi-colored exterior and retractable roof. Made of polycarbonate and glass, the exterior panels can change color and tilt, patterning the entire stadium or transforming it into a giant screen. Think of it as a macro-pixelated television. The renovation will be completed for the 2011/12 season. Now if they could just keep Lionel Messi healthy that long. Beijing National StadiumTas...

Department 56's baseball stadiums
2007-09-29 12:47:00
Department 56 baseball is a really fun collection for baseball fans and even fans who enjoy historical architecture. I've bought both the Yankee Stadium accent for my brother and the retired Yankee Stadium from Christmas in the City. I've purchased the Fenway Park accent as a gift as well. They're great, don't get me wrong, but I think D56 can do so much more. They can start with more stadiums, sold in regional areas as exclusives. I also would like to see a scale of the entire stadium from an overhead view as opposed to just the facade.I like the idea of doing the old time parks as opposed to the new sponsored stadiums. A "3com Park" piece just doesn't have the same ring to it as a classic "Ebbets Field".Here is my list of the next five stadiums Department 56 should make:1: Camden Yards (1992-Current, Baltimore Orioles)2: Jacobs Field (1994-Current, Cleveland Indians)3: The Astrodome (1965-1999, Houston Astros)4: Dodgers Stadium (1962-Current, LA Dodgers)5: Veterans Stadium (1...

Bordeaux: Stade Chaban-DelmasStade Chaban-Delmas (known as Parc Lescure until 2001) is a football and rugby union stadium in Bordeaux, France. Indeed, it is the home ground of FC Girondins de Bordeaux. It has a capacity of 34,327 places and it was built in 1938. It was completely covered. The stadium also hosted the 1997-98 Heineken Cup final. It hosted two matches of the 1999 Rugby World Cup and will host four matches during the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Pat-Downs will Continue at NFL Stadiums [J. Mark English]
2007-06-28 00:50:00
Did you know that you do not have a constitutional right to watch an NFL football game? Thats what an appeal court just decided today. This is from the Chicago Tribune:A federal appeals court cleared the way for pat-down searches to resume at Tampa Bay Buccaneers home games, rejecting a fan's contention that they violate his constitutional protection against unreasonable searches. High school teacher Gordon Johnston successfully challenged the frisking of fans entering Raymond James Stadium in three lower courts, but a three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned those rulings Tuesday -- saying Johnston forfeited his right to challenge the constitutionality of the pat-downs when he consented to them. The court also said Johnston doesn't have a constitutional right to watch a football game, that he was aware of the search policy before entering the stadium and that the Bucs can revoke game tickets for any reason. "Considering Johnston's ticket was only a...
SB Nation Roundtable, Week 2 - Stadiums
2007-05-30 15:59:00
Ralph Wilson Stadium Today marks the second week of SB Nation's Small Market Roundtable, and today the action is taking place at Pride of Detroit, where the subject of the week is stadiums. Detroit is an interesting choice to look at this topic - the city is obviously not a small market, but the Lions were among the lowest earners in terms of 2006 revenue despite having one of the most beautiful facilities in the league in Ford Field. (If you're interested, last week's discussion was in regards to relocation and took place at Big Cat Country). The Bills are obviously in a bit different situation. Ralph Wilson Stadium was constructed in 1973, making the 34-year-old facility one of the oldest in the league. It has survived through the years via a few renovations, the most major of which occurred in 1999. It was that year that 76 additional dugout suites, seat warmers and cup holders were added to the stadium. Additions were also made in 1984, 1992 and 1994 - it is thr...

Italians Change Laws For Football Stadiums To Tighten Security
2007-02-11 10:14:01
Italian football is in another state of disarray following the corruption scandal that rocked the country who are World Champions, this time its violence that is ruining the Italians reputation. The violence that killed policeman Filipo Raciti last week has forced the Italian government to introduce new laws that will help tighten security to ensure that the atrocity of last week will not be repeated. The measures mean that a number of the stadiums used will not be fit to host matches without being upgraded. Only six make the grade and can have fans in attendance they are: Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera, Siena’s Stadio Artemio Franchi, Sampdoria’s Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Cagliari’s Stadio San Elia and the recently refurbished Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in Turin. The other venues will have to play the games with no spectators at all. This week the venues that adhere to the new standards have been restricted to just home support, alth...
