Stan Getz - The Best of Two Worlds, featuring Joao Gilberto (1976)
2009-01-27 06:12:00
Hello, good evening! I'm trying to make this post since Saturday night. And I'm really sorry about this; I had to skip a really important celebration yesterday, which was Antonio Carlos Jobim, 82 years birthday. Additionally, I missed some announcements of friends that were celebrating Antonio Carlos Jobim yesterday, such as the great work made by Jassvan in New York, running a Marathon with Jobim's music and special guests on WKCR-89.9FM, also at www.wkcr.org. I'm really sad to miss this announcement and also missing the broadcast tribute itself. Jassvan always speaks about Loronix on his radio show and I urge Loronix's community to reach the radio website and listen to Jassvan show, broadcasted every Sunday at midnight. The show must go on, and I would like to upgrade this really nice and inexplicable underrated album, a Bossa Nova classic recorded in 1976 by Stan Getz, featuring João Gilberto and with the participation of Miucha. Let's see. This is Stan Getz - The Best of Tw...

Stan Getz - Big Band Bossa Nova (1962)
2007-05-15 05:31:00
This is one out of a series of albums available at "A Bossa Nova Internacional" section of Caetano's Bossa Nova e Outras Bossas book released by Verve with this cover artwork, all designed by Olga Albizu. Most of these albums were very important on introducing Bossa Nova to American audience and we will start to show by this first one sent by Caetano Rodrigues with Stan Getz on Bossa Nova standards arranged by Gary McFarland. This is Stan Getz - Big Band Bossa Nova (1962), for Verve, with arrangements and conduction by Gary McFarland. This amazing set was recorded only in two days, August 27 and 28, 1962. AMG should make better than zeca on Big Band Bossa Nova review with highlights on Gary McFarland participation, as follows: "Fresh from the sudden success of Jazz Samba and "Desafinado," Stan Getz asked the 28-year-old, strikingly gifted Gary McFarland to arrange a bossa nova album for big band as a follow-up. Getz is always his debonair, wistful, freely-floating self, completely a...

Stan Getz - Stan Getz with Guest Artist Laurindo Almeida (1963)
2007-04-22 03:31:00
Caetano sent this album as part of his latest package of treasures to Loronixers and I need to say open and honestly it was the first time I had the chance to hear this classical record. Among the several things I could learn with Loronix, a important one is to consider Stan Getz as a Brazilian artist, such tremendous was his dedication to Brazilian music and the work he made to "announce" the great new from Brazil in the early 60's, the Bossa Nova. This is Stan Getz - Stan Getz with Guest Artist Laurindo Almeida (1963), for Verve. This is a really amazing album and I think I cannot make better than Richard Ginell from All Music to describe this session and what was in the air during those years. Personnel includes another surprise, Edison Machado on Drums. Tracks include:AMG ReviewThree weeks after completing his meeting with Luiz Bonfá and only two days after the epochal Getz/Gilberto sessions, Stan Getz was back in the studio recording more bossa nova. Producer Creed Taylor was o...

Joao Gilberto e Stan Getz - The Best of Two Worlds (1976)
2007-02-13 05:47:02
It is amazing that this album is out of print. I didn't know that. I was even speaking with Caetano Rodrigues last week about it. Anyway, we have a great chance to get along with Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz together, nothing can go wrong with it.This is Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz e Miucha - The Best of Two Worlds (1976), for Columbia (USA). One of the interest things about this LP is the participation of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jobim wrote all his compositions lyrics in English for this set. In 1976, Jobim songs were already mature and he challenged himself making such change. The Best of Two Worlds also counts with the guest appearance of Heloisa Buarque de Hollanda, also known as Miucha. Astrud Gilberto could be a natural choice, but was not invited to join Getz and Gilberto. Tracks include:01 - Double Rainbow (Tom Jobim / G. Lees)02 - Águas de Março (Tom Jobim)03 - Ligia (Tom Jobim)04 - Falsa Baiana (Geraldo Pereira)05 - Retrato Em Branco e Preto (Picture In Black And White) (Tom Jo...
