Stanley Cup Finals: Why the Chicago Blackhawks Are Responsible for the Vanc

While most fans of the Chicago Blackhawks agree in their strong dislike of the Vancouver Canucks, history tells us that the Hawks are directly responsible for the success of their rival....
Top Ten Reasons the Officiating is Rigged in the Stanley Cup Finals
2010-06-08 05:45:00
By Mike SchroederThe Blackhawks just dominated in a pivotal game 5, but the officials already did their best in Philly to extend the series. This list was written between the second and third periods of Game 4, during peak Pronger-gets-away-with-murder time. The Hawks will only have themselves to credit or blame regardless of the outcome, but this list is a necessary venting toward the men in stripes. The Hawks need to lock it down in Game 6 despite the officials' best efforts!  Go Hawks!...

2010-06-08 04:29:00
With the smell of blood now in the water, hopefully this collective, controlled confidence will translate into an equally spirited and desperate attempt byt the Hawks on Wednesday. When this team is focused and literally giving 100%, no one can beat them.
Stanley Cup Finals, Game 5; Desperation Needs to be Blackhawks' Best F
2010-06-06 18:50:00
This series has been very similar to the Nashville series. The Hawk defense has been inconsistent, the offense and passing rather sporadic, and their effort flat-out questionable. Although the Flyers certainly are not the Predators, the Hawks have proven themselves to be the better team when they buckle down and play desperate.

Blackhawks vs Flyers in Game 4 of Stanley Cup Finals- Tomorrow Night
2010-06-04 05:36:00
So, I had to wait 24 hours before responding to game three. Part of this was due to mild depression, while the rest of the blame must go to beer, whiskey, and Taco Bell... all of which were closely tied to the primary cause: depression. But I digress, so let me continue. The Blackhawks lost last night, falling in overtime 4-3. Once again, however, viewers were treated to a thrilling game.
Stanley Cup Finals: Blackhawks' Patrick Kane Adjusting to Big Stage (A
2010-06-02 00:30:00
After two games of the Stanley Cup Finals, the experience for Patrick Kane has been "so far, not-so-good." The Blackhawks superstar is coming off a fantastic 88-point regular season and has had a sold postseason, scoring 21 points in the first three rounds. But in the first two games of the Finals, Kane has no points on just five shots and is minus-three in the series. Is Kane wilting under the bright lights of the Stanley Cup Finals?...
Chicago Blackhawks Take Game 1 of Stanley Cup Finals, 6-5
2010-05-30 05:25:00
Wow. Who would have expected that game? Saturday night's Stanley Cup bout featuring the Chicago Blackhaws and the Philadelphia Flyers showcased everything that is wonderful about hockey. This was a fast-paced, back-and-forth, punch-for-punch battle that consistently kept you on the edge of your seat.

I debated blogging the game or not, mostly out of my own enjoyment. But I'm a man of the people, and tonight I'll be blogging the game instead of just Tweeting it, so hit the refresh button A LOT here.7:04 Pierre McGuire creepily starts the broadcast off by saying "Dustin Byfuglien" at the end of his interview with Dustin Byfuglien.7:08 I'm watching the game tonight with my buddy Kevin who I wrote about yesterday.7:14 The MJ statue is showing some nice midriff in that Hawks jersey.7:18 How far has Eminem fallen to be featured on an NHL promo commercial?7:20 Whenever they sing "And the rockets" I always get chills. 2010 Stanley Cup Finals: Championship Experience Key For Blackhawks
2010-05-29 06:01:00
On Saturday night, when the puck drops in Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals, it will be a new experience for a majority of the fans in the United Center. After all, it's been 18 years since the last time the Blackhawks hosted a Finals game, and 49 since they won a championship. And yet, for the youngest team in the NHL, it's nothing special? Looking up and down the Blackhawks' roster, the championship pedigree is everywhere....
Could we have Stanley Cup finals without a star goalie--just two commoners?
2010-05-28 21:13:00
Super Bowl 2010. Quarterbacks Peyton Manning vs. Drew Brees. Brees is the MVP as New Orleans beats Indy 31-17, but the Manning legend still remains intact. World Series 2009. Cliff Lee starts Game 1 vs CC Sabathia. Lee was a prized catch for Philadelphia at the trade deadline, but cost them some future treasure, while Sabathia was a major acquistion from free agency for the New York Yankees at $161 million. NBA finals 2009. Some guy named Kobe wins again for the Lakers and is named MVP, too. And might do it all over again this year, because he recently signed a $90 million extension and is paid unchecked millions to win titles, not just games. Stanley Cup finals, 2010....

2010 Stanley Cup Finals Preview: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Philadelphia Flyers
2010-05-25 06:21:00
It is now set: the Chicago Blackhawks will face the Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals. What a matchup! Back in September, this was a believable pair of teams for the Finals. While the Blackhawks have stayed at or around the top of the Western Conference the entire season, it wasn't until the final day of the regular season in a shootout that the Flyer made the playoffs after a season with more ups and downs than a game of "Candyland." Seven goaltenders and two head coaches have led the Flyers to where they are now, headed to Chicago. As different as the paths to the Finals have been for these two teams, they share a lot in...
Hossa Hex could be real deal if it curses Blackhawks in Stanley Cup finals
2010-05-24 20:50:00
Marian Hossa knows how to pick 'em. To a point, and that point has stuck him in the end like hemorrhoids. For the third straight year, Hossa will be playing in the Stanley Cup finals. A worthy history, and yet not one with the proper ring to it. We can only fervently hope this Blackhawks winger fares better with his fantasy selections than he did on the first two occasions that he picked his poison. Hossa has been left looking at the back end of the hoss, a runnerup in 2008 with Pittsburgh when he lost to Detroit, and again for 2009 when the newly-minted Red Wing lost his minty-freshness against the Penguins. He gave broader meaning to flip-flop. Now...
Chicago's BEST Team Is Off To The Stanley Cup Finals!
2010-05-24 03:30:00
What a day at the Madhouse on Madison! The Blackhawks completed a sweep of the top-seeded San Jose Sharks to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1992. Superstar captain Jonathan Toews was just four years old the last time the Hawks made the Finals! No doubt the Blackhawks are Chicago's best team right now!...
Chicago Blackhawks In Stanley Cup Finals!
2010-05-24 02:47:00
On Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks finished a stunning sweep of the San Jose Sharks. With the win, Chicago advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals . Think about that. Let it sink in. For the first time since 1992, when the current Blackhawks' captain was four years old, and the leading scorer was three, the Hawks are playing for the Stanley Cup. ...
Blackhawks sweep Sharks to earn spot in Stanley Cup finals
2010-05-24 01:11:00
The Chicago Blackhawks are going to the Stanley Cup finals as the Western Conference champions. If the results were decided by style points, the Hawks would be on a plane to San Jose.  However, the final score is all that matters as the Blackhawks defeated the Sharks 4-2 to advance to the finals for the first time since 1992.  Chicago overcame a shaky start and a two-goal deficit in order to celebrate a series victory in front of a raucous United Center crowd. Dustin Byfuglien's playoff bubble has yet to burst as the forward's powerplay goal at 14:05 of the third period was the big man's third game-winner of the series.  After Patrick Kane switched sides in the offensive...
Chicago Blackhawks One Win Away from Stanley Cup Finals
2010-05-22 20:05:00
The Hawks have only looked more and more dominant and confident as these playoffs role along, and that is surely a good sign for all of us Hawk fans. While this series has been exceptionally entertaining and well-played, I still believe the Hawks can play tighter and better. Sunday night's wrap-up of this series should only be a preview to the next step the Hawks take as they advance on to the Stanley Cup finals.

Wings and Penguins Face Off ? Again ? in the Stanley Cup Finals

It?s déjà-vu for the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The teams faced each other last year in the Stanley Cup finals, and this year, they are doing it again. This is just a friendly reminder to take your SCF chit chat over to Pensburgh , where the Penguins die-hards like FrankD and JDunman will be desperately seeking as much moral support as they can get.  Who better to prop up their sagging spirits when facing the Red Wings than Avalanche fans? Head over to Pensburgh and chime in once he gets the thread posted.  Unless of course you're rooting against the Penguins and for the Red Wings.  In that case, you should just find a dark cellar and lock yourself in it.  Forever.

For the first time in 16 years, the Pittsburgh Penguins have reached the Stanley Cup Final. For Ryan Malone, it?s been a long time coming. 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Finals Preview and Prediction
2008-05-20 08:01:00
The Stanley Cup Finals are set as the Detroit Red Wings get set to open the Finals at home against the Eastern Conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins. This looks to be one of the most entertaining Finals in recent memory as two of the most talented teams in the NHL go head to head for hockey's ultimate prize.Detroit vs. PittsburghBreakdown: This should be one heck of a series to watch. Both teams can really skate. Both teams can shut you down on defense. Both teams have goalies who are on top of their game right now. At the end of the day I give the slight edge to the Pens. I think they are a little bit deeper, a little bit more talented, a little bit younger, a little bit hungrier, a little bit better on defense, and a little bit better in goal. All in all that adds up to a Stanley Cup for Pittsburgh in my book. The Penguins are clicking on all cylinders and have been more impressive against better competition this post-season than Detroit. The Pens are battle tested and ready to...

NHL and NBA Ratings [J. Mark English]
2007-06-06 05:03:00
Oh where, oh where are the NHL fans? Will a real NHL fan please stand up? Please stand up and grab a remote and turn on your TV before the NHL is never on national TV again? The ratings are in from game 3 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals that was on NBC:Ottawa's 5-3 victory over Anaheim in Game 3 Saturday night received a 1.1 national rating and a 2 share, the network said Tuesday. That matched a rerun of "The West Wing" on July 23, 2005, which also drew a 1.1 rating. Saturday's rating was down 31 percent from last year's Game 3 between Edmonton and Carolina, which had a 1.6/3. The national ratings for Monday night's Game 4 declined less sharply from last year. The Ducks' 3-2 victory received a 1.9/3, down 5 percent from the 2.0/3 for Game 4 in 2006.This translates into "women and children" first as far as the state of the ship of the NHL is concerned. I can't imagine that NBC will stick with the NHL much longer if the ratings continue. Spelling bees on ESPN probably get...
More people watched the XFL than this year's Stanley Cup Finals
2007-06-06 01:31:00
Saturday night's Game 3 between Ottawa and Anaheim received the lowest ever rating for a major network in prime time. Not just the lowest for a sporting event, but the lowest for anything ever shown on one of the networks between 8pm-11pm (7-10 for you Central time farmers). To put this into context, NBC's 1.1 rating for the game was lower than the worst XFL showing, a 1.5, which means that even at its least popular, there were still about half a million more people watching the XFL than watching hockey.
Why is no one covering the Stanley Cup finals? Blame the NHL
2007-06-03 11:59:00
Most of the major newspapers in the U.S. aren't covering the Stanley Cup finals between the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. Why, you ask? Well, the NHL hasn't exactly been near the pulse of the American sporting landscape for the past couple years, and that can easily be attributed to the way
Senators Fight Back to Win Game 3 (Anaheim leads 2-1) [Michael Vinciguerra]
2007-06-03 05:34:00
The Senators, who previously struggled and lost Games 1 and 2 against, Anaheim, finally displayed signs of life in their 5-3 victory over Anaheim on Saturday. As a result of crucial physical and offensive performances from their depth players, the Senators were able to prevent Anaheim from blowing the game open each of the three times Anaheim took a one-goal lead. Fourth liner, Dean McAmmond, is credited with the winning goal on a shot that went in off of Anaheim's defenseman, Chris Pronger. During games 1 and 2, Anaheim used their physical advantage to maintain possession of the puck and create scoring opportunities. However, in game 3, Ottawa was not thrown off their game, as they out shot and out hit Anaheim for the first time in this series. In addition, Anaheim was penalized 8 more minutes in the box than the Senators. This is exactly the kind of turn-around performance the Senators needed in a must-win to gain hope in a series which looked predominantly one-sided....

How the Edmonton Oilers went from the Stanley Cup finals to a sad, sad seas

Chris Pronger (left) and Ryan Smyth (right) stand next to Oilers GM Kevin Lowe (centre). The pair proved to be invaluable to the Oilers, and after their departures, the once respectable franchise became a sad mockery. The Edmonton Oilers were a bad team in 2006-2007.Face it, it's not pretty, but it's the truth. This team went from making the playoffs on the last day of the season and coming oh-so-close to winning the Stanley Cup to a sad bunch who seem like they've lost all interest in playing hockey.Let us evaluate what the players brought to the table.Petr Sykora, signed to a 1-year deal late in the free agency period, has proved to be this team's top scorer after a previously miserable season with the Ducks and Rangers. He finished with 53 points, and had the inversed stats of the departed Ryan Smyth, who equally had 53 points but he put that up in 53 contests while battling injuries and then eventually being dealt to the New York Islanders on Trade Deadline Day.Sykora had 22 go...
